Until that one day that you decided to stop, and explore a whole new culinary world. After having been selected as number 4 of the Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at the Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Coach & Four Restaurant, in Roanoke Virginia is a perfect example. At first it was just a large colonial house turned restaurant on Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia. But once I decided to stop and explore it, it has become one of my favorite restaurants in Roanoke, Virginia. Its uniqueness lies not only in its colonial atmosphere and in its classic American cuisine, but primarily in its amazing staff that from the time you walk in begin to make your fine-dining experience one that you'll always remember and cherish dearly. Their refined behavior creates a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere that create unforgettable dining experiences. Today, after having gone through one of the worst snow and ice storms in years, I decided to not allow the icy roads to hold me back, and requested a Lyft to take me there for dinner. As soon as I arrived, the friendly host came out to greet me and take me to a table of my choice. My server from the first time I dined there, happened to recognize me and took me to the booth where I had dined the first time I ever dined there. We discussed a Mocktail for me to drink and she came back with an amazing drink, and a small meatball as an "amuse-bouche," designed to prepare ones palate for the meal. After studying the restaurant's extensive menu, I ordered their Bacon Wrapped Scallops as appetizer. For my main entrée I ordered the Prime Rib Combination that consisted of a generous portion of roasted prime rib served with a delicious lobster tail. For the two sides that came with my main entree, I had their famous tossed salad with their in-house made blue cheese dressing and a loaded baked potato. The scallops were not so big in size but big in flavor and texture. The salad was amazing, as always. The main entrée looked well at first, but when I cut into the prime rib it was too well done to be able to appreciate the flavor of the meat. But my server came by, as promised, to see if the prime rib was cooked to my satisfaction, and when I told her it was too well done for my original request of medium-rare, she gracefully apologized and took it back. Returning shortly with another piece of prime rib more to my liking. For dessert I had a slice of Pecan Pie a la mode, which by the way was amazingly delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for one of the best fine-dining experiences of your life. And am looking forward to returning and ordering ahead of time their Baked Alaska to have for dessert. read more

As we were leaving, a man with a Trump hat tried to start a fight with another table telling them to meet him at the bar down the road. They appeared to be Senior Citizens and one had handicap issues, and the funny part was, I don't think they even heard him, even though he was yelling. Arrived early for our reservation on a cool evening in October. No problem getting seated and mentioned to the Host that this was our first visit. This information was passed to our server and other employees. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home and welcome us. Service exudes friendliness and warmth, employees all seem to enjoy working at Coach & Four Restaurant. In short, ambience, service, and food were outstanding. A civilized experience! A couple complimentary meatballs arrive shortly after seating. The bread offered was a bit underwhelming for a quality steak house. The salads arrive with just lettuce and your server brings a plate to add the fixings as you request. Kinda neat, definitely old school a throwback to the seventies. Visited this restaurant for an anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint! From the moment were greeted to the moment we finished we were treated like the most important guest they had ever had. The food was exceptional with many homemade sauces and steaks prepared to perfection. The service was beyond exceptional! Our server paced the courses perfectly - never rushed! I went on a Sunday evening with an out of town friend. The menu and reviews are what led us here, but I must say the reviews left me questioning the clientele's judgement. While the menu is indeed huge with plenty of variety, our meal was just lacking all around. The Caesar salad had a funky dressing that did not at all taste like Caesar and there was something like Kraft Parmesan sprinkled on top verses a nice grated cheese. My bacon wrapped scallops were a bit rubbery and seemed like they had been previously been frozen. My friend's blue cheese encrusted filet medallions were very small and dry. The meal also came out on a rolling cart, which I have only seen on tv! I don't think there is an executive chef in the kitchen based on our experience and I don't think I'll be taking my husband back on a date night. The atmosphere has so much potential, but was extremely mismatched with the burgundy and green carpet, different chairs at each table, pale grey walls and new-ish light fixtures. A makeover attempt was made but not followed through in all details. Came across overall as a place the appeals to the much older crowd and that had its heyday about 30 years ago. read more

Just had Thanksgiving dinner at Coach & Four. I cannot adequately describe the poor quality of this meal, but I think it would suffer in comparison to a Swanson TV dinner. Their Thanksgiving meal consisted of a tossed salad of iceberg lettuce with two cherry tomatoes, a piece of turkey loaf (the slice folded in half in an effort to conceal the fact that it's a circle of compressed turkey product) lying on top of a spoonful of Stove Top (or some other boxed product) stuffing, a tablespoon or so of runny instant mashed potatoes, a scrap of canned ham, green beans, a teaspoonful of sweet potatoes, a Sister Schubert's yeast roll, and a slice of boxed pumpkin pie with a teaspoon of whipped cream. When I asked if they could hold the ham, our server told me that all the plates had already been made up, which is pretty interesting. She never inquired about our opinion of the meal, but as we were leaving, I did tell her that the food was bad, but I appreciated her good service, and I assured her that she would not see the poor food quality reflected in her tip. (I tipped 25% because of her upbeat, friendly service and the fact that she was working on a holiday.) She replied, "Really?! Everyone else is loving it!" I can't imagine that too many people were excited about turkey loaf and instant potatoes, but there's no accounting for tastes. I also ordered a watery cocktail (supposedly rum, peach Schnapps, cranberry and orange juices) for which they charged $13.95. With tip, my bill came out to be just over $80. I volunteered at RAM House this morning, serving Thanksgiving lunch, and that meal was far superior to this one in every respect. I'm not a Coach and Four regular, and I only made a reservation there because all other local restaurants were booked. This meal would not encourage me to try it again. Sub-K & W Cafeteria quality for eight times the K & W price. Never again. read more

The food is way overpriced for what equates to something you could get at Apple-bee's or some similar chain fare. Advertised as colonial dinning experience, we listened to a plethora of modern pop hits the entire time we were there. The service was descent, but the food was poor at best. The lady at the table next to us returned her Prime Rib as it was tough and chewy. The potato croquettes were tough and gummy and tasted like they were most likely frozen and heated. Honestly, I think we would have been more satisfied had we gone to an Apple-bee's, and I hate Apple-bee's. I don't like to leave bad reviews of someone business but this felt like a real rip-off. read more

Reservations are highly recommended. This was our first visit here and the four of us had a wonderful experience as we celebrated my wife's birthday. The salad is made at your table and was extremely fresh. I had the Kabobs which was fantastic tasting and surprisingly enough for those of us with healthy appetites. Went to Coach and Four last Thanksgiving - Superior Food and Service - truly worth the time money and effort. Went there this past spring taking four of my gal buddies and had the same experience. Last night UGH! - I ordered the Fried Sea Food Panorama - What a massive disappointment. The flounder was about 3/8" thick and soggy. I had two TINY oysters (hardly recognizable as an oyster). I had two small shrimp even though on the menu it says JUMBO. The shrimp was also soggy. Two of our party ordered vegetable with their meal - big mistake! The veggies were served in a bowl and looked more like cabbage soup than steamed vegetables. Coach and Four - what have you done? You used to be our new favorite. Now we will not spend the money which is very pricey. Your loss of our party of seven. read more

We had dinner at Coach and Four, with a party of seven (7). We were promptly seated by the hostess and the server appeared moments later. After ordering drinks/beverages and chatting longer than normal, the server told us of the nightly specials...all of which sounded so good that we almost ordered before looking at the menus! The menu is extensive, with some of the best sounding offerings one could hope for in Roanoke (or any other place). The seven of us opted for various appetizers and our main courses were mostly beef. The appetizers, ranged from shrimp cocktail to onion soup, and all were outstanding. They were presented in an excellent manner by our server. I can attest that the onion soup was in the top five I've had in my lifetime. The entrees arrived within a few minutes of the appetizer plates/bowls being collected. They were each plated in an excellent manner and were each more than expected! I had a Porterhouse steak that was prepared to perfection, with that unmistakable flavor of dry-aged beef. Wow. We were all so content, that we did not order desserts....will save room next time! This is an excellent restaurant, well managed and appropriately priced. I have no idea what Coach & Four means but I've taken my family to a couple of meals here and we always come back. It's an old-school kind of place...where they serve you a salad and dress it table side (yes I do want tomatoes and cheese please, and throw on some bacon bits!). They also put down a basket of crackers when you are seated. Nothing like some saltines to whet the appetite! They don't have an extensive beer list so I can't give it five stars, but the service is friendly, the portions are generous and the food is consistently tasty. I really liked the aforementioned salad which I recently had with their house dressing. The crab imperial I had was excellent as were the fries which accompanied it. My family members liked their steaks and seafood as well. Listen, this isn't some type of "nouveau cuisine" place. Pretentious hipsters are not their target audience. They know their demographic and they serve it well. You're likely to see the manager of the local supermarket taking his wife here for a nice dinner. Oh my, where do I start! My dining experience was fabulous from start to finish! The ambience was just what I need after a long week of work. The food.... oh the food!!!!! From the bacon wrapped shrimp to the side salad, where I was allowed to choose my toppings and have my salad mix dressed at table side, to the perfectly cooked steak! We just had our very first Coach & Four experience and I have to share that it was MUCH COOLER than we expected, and EXTREMELY DELICIOUS! We encountered delectable bacon-wrapped scallops, complementary meatballs, INCOMPERABLE French Onion Soup, a unique table-tossed salad with numerous guest-chosen ingredients (including my new FAVORITE salad topping, PERUVIAN SWEETY DROP PEPPERS), MELT IN YOUR MOUTH PRIME RIB and of course a perfect Pinot Noir to complement it all. Our server Suzie, who knew the menu encyclopedically, brought a joy to her work and our dishes which enhanced the experience palpably. The setting is classic and cozy, which will soon be retro-cool. The menu was varied and very enticing with several steaks, poultry, seafood, veal, ribs and fried food options.
