But as part of an ongoing PSA if your sauce is good please stop being stingy with it, and don't water down your ranch dressing. barley coating wings in sauce is just not doing any restaurant a favor. the sauce is what makes the wings. grats on saving 5 cents by watering down the soufflé cup of ranch dip. read more

I sat at the bar. Friendly bartender. She created the Fall Cocktail Menu. I had Apple of My Eye. Amazing! The Cobb salad was great and the perfect size. The service was fast and friendly. The place was clean and organized. A patron did have his dog at the bar. I didn't mind, but some people might. I'll be back to try another Fall cocktail for sure. read more

First time eating here. Friday night around 5:30pm and it was pretty busy already. Looked like some regulars were there. Was a little confused by the system (fill out the paper menu at the table and give it to the bartender) but got it worked out. Window was open and it was a beautiful day. Because it's a bar it's a little loud, but the food was good. Got the Naan with Spicy Feta app (really good) and the Starkey pizza. My husband got the Wing T pizza. Good crust and toppings. Worth the cheap price. We'll come back again. read more

I had such high hopes for 1861 and it's cuter than cute IG-worthy quaint atmosphere , but alas, the "gas station" pizza and air fryer chicken wings were just too gross. This place has a great staff and very adorable bar, each earning a star for this review, but the food was completely underwhelming. Going to meet a friend for a drink? Cool. Great place to get away from the routine. Unique menu that changes with the seasons, phenomenal old building, with unique bar in the barn that's been refurbished. Food is always been excellent and would highly recommend for something different outside of the big city. read more

I always try to eat local when traveling and I found a great place here! My bartender/server was quite friendly and we had a nice conversation. He recommended a fantastic beer. OH MY GOD BECKY! Look a 1861 Public House! The husband and I were vacationing Labor Day weekend in Olive Hill, KY and decided to hit a museum in Huntington, WV. He picked the museum and I picked the food. I saw 1861 Public House on Yelp and thought the name was interesting. I'm so glad I did! We arrived shortly after they opened, so there weren't any customers yet. The place isn't very deep or wide so the bartender greeted us and told us to "sit, fill out the order and bring it back." The ordering is done on a piece of paper. Write your name, choose, the crust, select the food and done. There are 9 house pizzas or you can build your own. If you're into wings, there are 9 flavors. Lastly, there are 3 house sandwiches. We went with the house pizzas. I got "The Pirate" with cauliflower crust and the husband got "The Statkey" with regular crust. I've often found that gluten-free pizzas aren't always good but the 1861 crust was perfect. As soon as I bit into the crust, I actually hummed! The sun-dried tomatoes on "The Pirate" gave the pizza a bit of sweetness that was surprising and pleasant. The husband is a man of few words and said, "the pizza was good."‍ Although , we didn't drink alcohol, they had about 20 beers to choose from and a serious liquor selection. I ordered cheese sticks and was given bread with melted cheese on top! The menu did not give any description, just stated cheese sticks. My interpretation of cheese sticks is mozzarella sticks deep fried - not bread with melted cheese on top. Will not return. read more

The positive- the bar tender was helpful and knowledgeable. That's it. You have to take your own order, go up and get your drinks. It's all self service. When you have a limited menu the few things on that menu should be outstanding. The pizza we had was both burnt and not baked until the cheese melted. It looked and tasted and looked like a frozen pizza. That's a one and done for us. read more

Enjoyed my first visit to 1861 Public House on Halloween. Place is small, quaint, and a classic neighborhood bar. Quentin was a great bartender who knows his beers, and the pizza I had was very good. Their beer rotation always has an option for you with 20 different taps in rotation. I've been waiting forever to go and try the pizza and it did not disappoint. For $10, 1861 serves the best little pizza around. My son and I shared one and it was fresh and delicious! I didn't get to try any drinks or beer but I'll be sure to next time I stop in. read more

Great little place. Pizzas are good. I love craft beer so this should be a 5 star+ for me, but the foundation of the craft beer scene is IPA's, and they rarely even have one good one among all those taps. And we have several breweries right here in WV that make world class IPA's. I just enjoy one that I get from Drug emporium before I go, and then enjoy a pizza unless I'm in the mood for a different beer style- they usually have some good ones. read more
