Derek has been patient and gone to great lengths to help with tuning advice as well as finding some custom parts. Disclaimer: I am a complete newb to motorcycles and have not actually used any other motorcycle…read morerepair people other than Derek my whole life. That said, despite the above disclaimer, I am nonetheless a fairly difficult customer to impress. My husband and I are control freaks and perfectionists, though goodness knows we WANT to get excited about finding good services. When we brought ourselves and our dual-sports (WR250X/R) to Derek, based on YELP reviews, I quickly got the impression that 1) he was competent and a perfectionist and 2) he'd not worked on our particular bike before. But the latter didn't really phase him. He took my emails with links to online articles in stride and showed us complete respect despite our lack of experience, and at every stage of the way has made us happy with his attitude and his results. He may sometimes question our judgement when we make a request, but he does it for the right reasons, and in the end he'll still humor us if we get stubborn. So far all our adjustments and repairs have made us very happy, and I've no complaint about the cost of his service (though given the above disclaimer, I may just be too clueless to know if he's ripping us off, heh...wait, I didn't just say that). We'll be going back to him for all our future motorcycle repair/mod needs. Knowing that we're done with the search for a good mechanic is a weight off my shoulders. (Regarding the 1* review...am I Derek's friend? Err, probably not. Not that I think he'd be a bad friend, but, um, I'm just a customer.)

The "wrenches" do a great job on tune ups and I drive 2 hours every year to have my bikes get the once over here. Sure there's some great shops in DeMo and I really like the staff, but these guys are a step up. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They also carry a large selection of gear for your bike and yourself. Whether you want to stay hydrated or sit comfortably on your bike, they have it. Need to pack some gear they have small bags all the way up to panniers. When I say they have accessories I mean it. They also have a huge section of skate boarding accessories. From boards to tape. This shop in Ft Dodge is worth the drive.

It didn't seem as if they were in a rush to sell me anything but instead allowed me to take my time and answered any questions I had about situational riding for specific bikes. Received the call that his work was done and we could pick up his bike. Tried to coordinate for three days and either got the run-around, he didn't show up at the agreed upon location and time (with no courtesy text or call to let us know so we sat at his business for an hour waiting) and/or ignored phone calls and text messages. Finally got the police involved and was able to get the bike back and pay him. Come to find out as my son is driving his bike away, that the work was not done correctly and now have to take it somewhere else to do the work that Adam was paid to do. We DO NOT recommend this business at all! This terrible experience has tarnished the multiple good experiences we previously had with him. Just a glimpse into how he treats his repeat customers! We will never be a customer again.

Repair situation is great. In my experience, most repairs have been quick enough to take care of while you wait, which is completely unknown in my previous experience of bike shops. (I'm sure some repairs don't allow this, but it's never come up for me so far.) It's right downtown, which I mention only because it would be a pain to have to ride my bike to a part of town that isn't all that bike friendly. Pricing for repairs is also reasonable and in some cases they've simply not charged me. Hope to never be back! (hahahaha) but if I do, I know there's a reliable repair shop close to my house.

3 months ago I had my rear rusty brake lines replaced by a mechanic shop, and within 2 months both…read morebrake lines were leaking. So I was in autozone one day and met Derek. He was also shopping and I told him about my situation. Within 2 days of getting his card Derek had my subaru on the road again. He came to my house and quickly figured out the situation and made some brake lines that would work on the spot, and his price was very economical. Derek is knowledgeable and friendly.
