This is part of the day tour we booked at a different company but since they operate independently, i thought i would give them a fair review. Our swamp tour was only a little group of 3 couples and our baby, the tour was interactive where all if us we're in a discussion (especially my husband) and we learned a lot of interesting facts about swamps, taxes, gators, etc. We had a great time and we saw some gators too, not the big ones but good enough for pics. My baby enjoyed the breeze since it was so darn humid this time of year. LoL! I suggest taking some swamp tours while visiting New Orleans. Our tour guide was very nice and accommodating, he knows this stuff pretty good :-)

The lack of plants in the front yard made the houses looked naked to me, which was bizarrely intriguing. Just cars and houses and the occasional tricycle or trampoline. Once we arrived, we had a lovely tour with Captain Brian. The boat ride was relaxing and informative, through a wide and still canal, with gorgeous lush flora and fauna all around. Captain Brian was very knowledgeable about the swamps as well as the local wildlife, but he's fairly dry. He gave it a good effort and tried to make it fun, and even cracked a few jokes. Somebody asked "where's the marshmallows?" and he replied wittily that the marshmallows were holding us in anticipation, as we didn't want to have all of our fun at once. It was fun to see Brian throw marshmallows into the water and watch (and photograph) the gators snapping them up, and we definitely had plenty of opportunity before the end of the day. Interestingly, this is the only parish where it's legal to feed the alligators, and when I asked Brian why he was able to explain to me about the ethics of alligator hunting, and why this particular parish it was acceptable to feed them as long as one did it properly. It was also fascinating to learn about tagging, and how every season gator skins get cut in a certain way to identify what year they're from (without ever repeating the pattern). As we were making our way back to the dock, Brian pulled out a huge (in my eyes) alligator head and passed it around so we could all check it out. This was fun and informative to see up close, and also made for some fun photos. My recommendation: the tour would have been more interesting if they made it more personal. It would have been interesting to hear about his family's experience, and what it's like living out in the bayous of Louisiana. All the same, I can easily recommend a swamp tour. It's a fairly short tour, but I felt like short was the perfect length, as it's a little boring compared to the rest of New Orleans.
