I came here for the first evening service which was shockingly good - the food was all well executed, the featherblade a little dense in parts but the overall flavour was good. The Malaysian chicken curry Starters are a very generous portion so be careful not to over order! Having said that, the haddock and smoked salmon hash brown, the salmon & crab and the lamb kofta should all be on your shortlist so perhaps just come hungry. I was a circumspect of a menu that darts around cuisines so much but every dish is executed really well, they manage to make fashionable dishes that are everywhere at the moment a little bit different, and so far (we returned the second night) it's been very consistent. It's really everything you could want from a neighbourhood bistro. There's also some decent vegetarian options and the chilli tenderstem broccoli is a great side.
At the moment it's BYOB but they will have an alcohol licence in a few weeks. This is a great chance to enjoy some of the excellent bottle range available at the nearby Bargain Booze (seriously, it's stellar).
Overall I look forward to becoming a regular here. While not (yet) at the level of refinement of other great suburban eateries Brassica Grill or Hispi (nor I think would they aim to be on the somewhat special occasion level of Hispi), 203, The Lane is serving good, honest food and in my view would be worth a little detour down to Davenport. read more
