    Caramel dumpling

From the inviting ambience to the delicious food this restaurant won't disappoint. The view is fabulous...especially on a blustery overcast day! We started with chips and spinach artichoke dip. So yummy and warm. The kettle chips were lightly seasoned and crispy. We had the lunch fish and chips which was lightly breaded and simmered in white wine and lemony goodness. The grilled BLT had a perfect char on the bread. It tasted like the char from a burger packaged in a fresh, crispy BLT. The fries were delicate and crispy and very well seasoned. I enjoyed a sweet rasberry lemonade. To finish it off we had a warm, buttery, slightly crispy caramel dumpling top with vanilla ice cream. It was similar to a caramel bread pudding. So delicious!

WOULD DRIVE HERE JUST FOR A MEAL. Lovely restaurant chalet-looking house facing the water. Decor was cozy, romantic and rustic with fresh cut flowers on each table. We ordered: Salad: fresh greens, nothing special but a much needed staple. Chowder: If you like non-creamy soupy ones, this is the best I've had. Authentic oil-based/butter taste! Heavy on the green onions, very welll flavoured. Haddock: hearty stew-like (pot pie filling like) plate with roasted potatoes and vegetables. Fish was nicely done, not over-cooked. Very filling and delicious! They use copious amounts of butter, which is probably why it's super tasty. Blueberry dumpling with ice cream: warm hearty pie like dessert. Not too sweet if you share. Throughly enjoyed my experience and would have loved to try other dishes. Many people ordered the nachos and burgers. Whatever you do, the chowder is a must!!! Would have loved to come back and diner on the patio in the summer.

We finally got a table here after 2 trips to PEI and three days of trying and we were more than excited to finally be here given how much we have heard about this place. The service was rather poor with inattentive servers but nonetheless our meal started out very well. We ordered the mussels and lobster&crab dip. Hands down these were the best mussels I had in PEI and the chips that accompanied the dip were to die for. The main course though was totally off point ( so much ao that I would like to think thag they were just having an off day ). We ordered the piri chicken, portuguese haddock and the breakwater burger. From my experience PEI serves great chicken, burgers and haddock. But every meal was very disappointing. The piri piri chicken was over cooked ans tasted nothing like piri piri chicken. The only thing good about the haddock was the tartar sauce that accompanied it. And the burger was a rather basic burger you can find at any other place. The ambience ia great but it is definitely not worth the visit.

Came across this restaurant as we were touring east point area of PEI. The special today was a burger and beer. First I love me burgers and I am very picky about them. This burger didn't disappoint. It was flavourful and the patty was juicy. The garnishes were perfect. Just writing this review about the burger is making my mouth water. The French fries where a hit too. They also had a special of mussels. When in PEI one must have mussels. Now these were the best mussels that we have tasted on our Atlantic Canada trip. My partner had the seafood chowder. It was mouth-watering delicious. This chowder had lots of seafood and good sized pieces of bacon. Our server was top notch and gave helpful suggestions. I would not miss this restaurant if you're in the area. If we could have, we would have gone back for dinner.

The food was absolutely excellent, I had the fish and chip special that was Panko crusted. Kids had huge potato chip nacho's and a burger and fries. The restaurant is a beautiful converted home across from the ocean.

Great seafood and not too heavy! Note the opening hours on yelp don't quite match. We dined here at around 2pm on a Weds in August.

Now that I'm back on the East Coast, I can both trust fish at restaurants more and pay less for it, so I went with the salt cod fish cakes ($17). You know how they say your plate should have lots of different colours of food? Well this was NOT that. While this meal won't win any awards from the Canada Food Guide, it did well by my taste buds. The fish cakes themselves were loosely packed and had a pleasant punch of salty fish, and the green tomato chow brought a contrast of sweet and tangy to the mix. The side of beans had a smattering of what appeared to be bacon in it, and were just the right doneness - not chalky or mushy. Thumbs up! The corn beef hash was a bit greasy, but it was delicious - crisp bits of beef and potato with sauteed onions - it's hard to go wrong here. My wife went for the diner staple, meatloaf ($17). After this meal it became her go-to dish at Appleseed, and I can see why. The generous slab of meatloaf is light and moist, and a slathering of mushroom and onion gravy makes it even more hearty. Ultra-smooth whipped potatoes are a classic pairing, done picture perfect. A medley of veg likely came out of a massive freezer bag, and while a diner fixture, it's one that could be easily replaced with any sort of seasonal veg that is prepared in a better manner than steaming. On our return, I went with the hot chicken sandwich ($17). The roasted chicken was moist and tender, although a little sparse. A hearty slathering of gravy was good, and not too salty. I really appreciated the thick, quality bread that stood up well against the onslaught of gravy. As always, their shoestring fries were spot on. I doubled down on diner decadence and got a strawberry milkshake ($6.50) to drink. Appleseed gets a tip of my cap for using the classic milkshake glass, plus topping it with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Further bonus points for the extra bit of milkshake coming in the aluminum cup it was mixed in. It was a thick, tasty treat. I still wish Appleseed was in a better location with an interior that called back more to its cozy diner peers rather than strip mall industrial chic, but you can't win 'em all. It's still not easy to get more creative, casual food in Pictou County, so Appleseed is definitely an asset to the local food scene.

My husband enjoyed his burger which also had out of the ordinary seasoning and toppings. The fries were amazing. The sandwich was decent - chunks of actual roasted turkey breast, not sad, slimey slices. It was a bit more minimalist than I'd like, but the good meat and fresh, house-made bread definitely elevated it. The hamburger soup was rich and hearty, with a peppery bite.
