My favorite place to grab a beer and wood fired pizza. Really cool interior. Winery next door mixes some great cocktails too.

Finally had the change to stop by on the way up to Fargo for a beer fest. The grounds are enough of a draw to hang out and break up a drive, but the pizza and pretzel were also fantastic. Everyone we talked to was really friendly, helpful, and quick with the service. It was right after they opened on a weekday so they weren't too busy. The taproom is fashioned like a viking longhouse and the layout is great for big get-togethers. Not to mention the sprawling campus with gorgeous views. The beer was all pretty solid. Nothing to warrant a trip by itself, but I enjoyed all of them. The Margherita is always my litmus test for a pizza joint and they delivered! The crust was light and airy, really flavorful, and the charring was perfect. The sauce was bright, mozzarella fresh, and the basil (correctly) added after the bake. The pretzel was just as well done. Really fluffy with a crisp crust and just the right amount of chew. Their rotating specialty pizzas all sound amazing so you know next time I'm in the area I'll stop in for a pretzel, pizza, and a few tasters. read more

This brewery is on the same land as the Carlos Creek Winery. I thought it was pretty cool and nice looking. There's plenty of seating indoors and out. You can order food and drinks. Looks like they are maybe known for pizza as far as food. We ended up getting drinks out on the patio but not sure if that bar maybe went by a different name? Either way, cool place to grab drinks, food & hangout. read more

This is a really great brew pub. The beers are quite good. Regarding seating, it's all about getting outside and hanging out. There is plenty of space. The gourmet pizzas are fantastic! As good or better than most in bigger cities. We always struggle to find good places to go out to eat up there. This is a no brainer!! read more

22 Northmen is one of those breweries that if I am driving anywhere near the area, whether driving up to Fargo or going to the lakes in the area, I stop by. It is a top tier space sitting on a large property shared with Carlos Creek Winery (for those wine lovers), Bold North Cellars, and some great food options (which I highly recommend you partake in). We always grab a wood-fired pizza and pretzel from Stoke. For beers we went with a flight of some of their lighter options. Their lagers are impeccable, but we wanted to give some of their mix-ups on the traditional lager bases a try (we have had nearly every lager they offer) Salted Lime Cerveza: A Mexican Light Lager brewed in collaboration with Bent Paddle Brewing. Reminded me always of a Gose with the strong tart lime juice and balance of sea salt. I could imagine sitting on a boat in the Gulf drinking this in one hand, and a margarita in the other.  Colorado Kolsch: A Kolsch brewed with the traditional techniques (as 22 Northmen does). It is made with barley from San Luis Valley, CO and malted by Colorado Malting Company. Per usual, all the flavors and aromas you expect out of a Kolsch were shining.  Pink Guava Sommer Series: A light bodied lager with wheat and pink guava. The wheat gives it a bit more body and the pink guava provides a punch of sweetness / refreshness. A nice change of pace from the traditional beers we usually get.  Red Axe: If there is a Flemish Red - I have to order it (kind of like PB Porters). This Flemish Red is a blend of 1 and 2.5 year mixed culture red ales aged in red wine barrels. It is slightly tart (not puckering), medium-high bright red currant flavors, with just a very mild undertone of tobacco. Great rep of the style.  For food, we ordered a woodfired pizza topped with San Marzano red sauce, spicy sausage, hatch green chilies, fresh garlic, red onion, rosemary, goat cheese and shredded mozzarella; in addition to a large Bavarian pretzel served with beer cheese. My wife and I were up in Alexandria and she knew about this place. Dear Lord, so good! First off, the grounds are on a winery, so they are beautiful. Like amazing! We entered the rustic looking building and we ordered a wood fired pizza first called the Gondul. The san marzano red sauce, spicy sausage, hatch green chilies, fresh garlic, red onion, rosemary, goat cheese and their three cheese blend were just perfect. I started with the IPA 6 and 8. Both were delicious! You need to stop here if you are nearby. It's beautiful and delicious! read more

Visiting friends in town they took me here last Friday. They have a big parking lot but she did say if we would have come a few hours later or Saturday it is full, as well as the random spots along the road. I was thankful when we got here in the afternoon as that sounded like too many people for my comfort. I liked the comfortable, spacious and cabin-like tap room. We both built flights. I opted for the Pink Guava, Night Axe, Punch Face & Joe Dort. So I really covered the gamut in styles. Joe Dort was my least favorite, the other three were all tied for being delicious. Before leaving & after finishing our flights my friend walked to the winery in the next building and we all had a glass of Minnescato, and it was deliciously sweet!! As I type this I realize I forgot to buy a bottle to bring home! Fail. My beertender was helpful in assisting me building my flight, thank you. The tap room was spacious and offered regular height tables and high tops. Next time I'm up in the area I would gladly stop back in, cheers! read more

I wanted to love this place... The space was beautiful! I'm not sure when it opened, but it seems to be a decently busy tourist or locals spot? They had a pizza place inside it so you could have pizza and beer... who doesn't want that?!? Sounds great. Sadly, we were here for just the beer and it was underwhelming. We opted to go for a tasting flight so we could try a few of the beers. None of them were super exciting, but to someone not familiar with beer, it would be confusing. The employee behind the bar was not overly friendly, but she was able to answer our questions and give recommendations. What I thought was funny... they didn't have any IBU's (International Bitterness units) on their menu board or their paper menus. I have never been to a brewery that didn't have this on it! Its Typically a perfect way for people that don't want a bitter or super hoppy beer to pick and choose. We asked the employee and she said "Nope, they aren't listed..." (DUH! Hahah ) but she was able to recommend one my hubby would like. None of the beers we had really stood out... I wouldn't drive all the way out here just for this brewery... hope they improve otherwise Carlos Creek is right next door. read more

Unexpectedly nice place. It's a large, lofty cabin on the grounds of what feels like a small vineyard/campus. The beers are tasty and plentiful - we especially loved the Munich Helles and Norwegian Farmhouse Hazy IPA. It even has an adjoining restaurant with delicious pizza! You can sit inside or out, with inside being a friendly cozy brewpub vibe and outside being more like winery meets firepit. You really can't go wrong here. read more

Highly recommend checking out this brewery! It has a lively atmosphere with good beer! There are several places to sit inside, however outside is where all the action is! The semi- shaded patio has a bar and live music from local musicians. Hand made pizzas are available from Stoke Pizza Kitchen- they're phenomenal. If pizza isn't your jam, you can always try the Sizzle food truck which is there every Friday and Saturday. There are board games available inside, as well as yard games and a giant chess board outside. read more

22 Northmen is set on pretty vineyard grounds alongside a pizza place that shares its building, a winery, and a pub of sorts. A great mix. The interior is nice, too: an airy but not disorienting-ly large wood-appointed, two-floor beer hall with a prominent fireplace and a window to the brewery in the back. The beers I tried were good. Their bourbon aged stout is incredible... Very flavorful but with a great balance of its flavors. Good malt flavor, a little sweet but not syrupy or saccharine. Fantastic. The salted lime summer beer was also great. Lime beers often miss, having too little lime flavor, too much lime sourness, or too much sweetness (it's a beer, not a key lime pie), but they hit the right spot. Their honeyed lager has a distinct honey flavor that's natural where you can detect the type of honey but not overwhelming and well matched with the beer flavors. The oatmeal stout was also good. While the beers are individually good, it's set apart by a diverse beer list. When I went, they had a couple of IPAs and an on-trend hazy, but they have a great range of styles. Two stouts, one of them oatmeal and the other barrel aged, a lime lager, a delicious beer made with honey, a swartzbier-like "dark lager," a sour, a wit, and more. Something for any beer drinker's tastes, which you don't always get at craft breweries. If you're into good beer, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

Girls Weekend with -30 degrees windchill! We thought we'd like to check out the live band, sample some brews and head back into town to catch the Iowa Hawkeyes ( women's) game... To our delight, the beer was cold, tasty and the barn was jumping! The band was just great and when we looked up, there was a large screen tv right in front of us...then there was pizza, more beer and more music!!! Fantastic brewery! I'm not a beer drinker and even I had fun. My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Saturday in November. We both loved the Nordic theme and the Viking longhouse-look of the brewery. We were visiting family over thanksgiving and were excited to see another brewery open in the Alexandria area. We head over to the winery just about every chance we get, so the area was familiar. Let's get at it....here's my review. The Space: BEAUTIFUL. Love the rustic barn look throughout. Warm and inviting fireplace when you walk in. Plenty of seating between downstairs and the loft. The bar is centrally located and offers huge windows into the brewing facility. Beers: we tried a few. The honey ale. Norwegian farmhouse. An IPA. The horchata porter. Honey ale was solid but not entirely memorable. Norwegian farmhouse was my favorite. Nice, easy drinking beer. The IPA was good, just not my preference for hop blend....but still a good IPA. Horchata porter. Lemme preface this by saying I HATE porters. Too heavy and often an off-putting after taste. I really enjoyed this one. Food: FINALLY, another brewery with in-house food options. Urban Growler is a brewery fave for me, largely because of a reliable beer selection supplemented by mind blowing in-house eats. 22 moves into this category now. Excellent oven-fired pizzas!! Service: a minor ding here. For a Friday night, beertenders seemed more interested in chatting folks up than keeping the line moving. Second minor ding. A staff person came around after we eat and had a beer to collect pizza trays and empty glasses. We inquired about a box for leftovers and her response was "yes, we do have boxes, but I'm not going to bring it to you." ...ok then. I certainly can walk downstairs to get it -- just lacked that customer service element i was hoping for. All in all -- if you appreciate good craft beer in a stunning g atmosphere with an optional homemade pizza, this place is worth your time! read more

We had our rehearsal dinner here for our wedding that was at the winery. My mother in law had issues with Samantha setting everything up. They had changed their contract which pushed back when we were allowed to have our rehearsal dinner. We could have drinks at 6 and food at 7. Well the winery wants you to have your rehearsal at 4. So what are you supposed to do in between? Thankfully our coordinator let us push our rehearsal to 5 so there wasn't a gap. Then during the dinner there was a huge confusion with drinks. It was as if we were the first rehearsal dinner they have ever had? They told us we would have wristbands for everyone. Then we were told just to make a tab. After a long discussion we were finally given wristbands. We had to put a deposit down for the space. Well once we got to the deposit amount for our bar tab, they told us we couldn't have any more drinks. So my father in law had to go talk to them about how his card is on file and to card it. It was very stressful and unnecessary. Food started at 7. Well we didn't any of our dessert pizza until 8-830. We were all sitting around just waiting. The amount of money you have to pay for the "private space" was 100% not worth it. Do not have your rehearsal dinner here. The only reason this is a 2 star is because the pizza was really good. read more

Made a pit stop here on our road trip from Chicago to Fargo. This place was beautiful, clean and very spacious. The beer was excellent! We're plant based and they made us a dairy free, veggie pizza that was AMAZING!!! The winery is adorable and the vineyards are beautiful. I see some reviews complaining about how they are handling covid precautions, I thought they were doing an excellent job. I felt very safe, everyone who should be wearing a mask was wearing one and from what I experienced it was very clean. This is a little hidden gem. I will come back to Alexandria specifically to visit here again. read more

We stopped during a Christmas trip to Alexandria and this place did not let us down. Excellent food & drinks :) The service was wonderful and was not overbearing which I love. Its tough to go places where they bug you constantly asking if you want something. They did not do that here. They gave you your space to order as you wish and were there instantly when you needed them to be. I would strongly suggest everyone check it out. I really like this place, meaning the brewery, and will be back. Staff were helpful and engaging and played good music. Love me some Black Keys and Weinhouse on a Saturday night. Ordered the Göndul pie and it was delicious, tasty spicy sausage with goat cheese melded together perfectly. I'll order extra red onion next time, though. Beer was good; however, I had been looking forward to a glass of Pinot. Had two nicely brewed pilsners. Through no fault of theirs, they can 't serve wine out of there. Looking forward to trying more of their flatbreads/pies and hopefully in the future German staple dishes -- maybe some Brat or Schnitzel -- outside in warmer months to come with that glass of Pinot. Situated right next to Carlos Creek Winery is the 22 Northmen Brewing Company. There was a wide selection of beers and we wanted to try many of them. Flights provided a variety of beers to taste and the bottles for sale inside allowed us to take our favorites home. This was a highlight of our recent trip to Alexandria.
