Stopped in while on the way to Grandview and had to get a beer. I had their Hefeweizen and it was descent, not my favorite but a middle of the road beer. Their outdoor space is nice with multiple tables and even a cornhole setup. Seemed a little slow due to off peak times up north but a nice brewery. read more

Stayed in town and decided to check this place out. Beer was mediocre, but it was the service that was horrible. Ordered a flight and 3 of the 4 beers were just ok. One was so bad it was undrinkable. We also ordered food. While waiting for food, we finished with the flight. I brought our flight board to the bar (with the full glass) and before I could even say a word, they took the board and cleared it and moved to the next person in line. If a customer brings a full glass to the bar, wouldn't you at least ask the question of what was going on? Our food arrived after 30 minutes and was nothing special. Fun brewery off of 371 on Main Street. The Rueben sandwich lunch was perfection. The Fish & Chips were very good (hard crispy fried-how I like it). Not only do they offer great brews, they also create non-alcohol drinks: Cream Ale and Root Beer. Both were superb-my friendly barkeep allowed me a sample of both, which really made it hard to decide on only one. This brewery isn't far off from the Paul Bunyan Multi-use Trail. Usually this location is bustling with a big long line, people crowded out front and standing around laughing and very little parking. However, this particular night, it looked empty. We stopped in with our two small children and the clean eating area was very accommodating. My husband and I both enjoyed apps and a cold beer and our sons each had a kid's chicken meal with a root beer. The eating space is small but cute, exposed beer making in the back and windows to watch the Nisswa traffic. We stopped by Big Axe for a beer and found it to be nice but average. The brewery itself is located at the end of a block of shops and is connected to a neighboring restaurant. That's a nice arrangement as you can order food from the cafe next door and have it delivered right to you. I'm not sure if the businesses are connected financially or not. The menus for the cafe are right on the table at the brewery. Appearance-wise, the brewery was nice -- lots of with the brewing tanks right out in the open to see. A handful of tables, chairs around the bar and some stools at a counter lining the outside wall. The back bar was really cool, made up of wood chunks and very architecturally interesting. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had the Red, which was decent but nothing to write home about. My husband tried the saison, which he said tasted good flavor-wise but was totally flat. He asked the bar tender if he could exchange it, which they did for him no problem. He had the IPA, which he also thought was good but not great. We left without having a second. read more

From their Mosaic Pale Ale, Agropelter to their new Guava Milkshake IPA, Guavatron. This brewery has a beer for everyone. If your looking to only get a drink they have a nice taproom set up or outdoor seating for the upcoming summer nights. As a note I would say service is a little slower than some may be accustomed to, especially if your coming from the cities. But if you are coming up north you should take your time, relax and have a good drink at this gem in the north. read more

So we paid a deposit on a growler and had it filled several times this season. We are leaving for the winter so I dropped off my empty bottles that I paid a "deposit " on. After turning the 2 bottles in I was told that there is no return on the deposit???? A deposit is taken to insure the owner gets his product back and then the deposit money should be returned. This shouldn't be a deposit it should have been told it was a $5 purchase for the bottle and that it would be filled over and over for a lesser amount Boy, false advertising really burns me!!!! My sister and I made a day of exploring breweries as I was already in Little Falls. Stop one Big Axe. I researched online and really liked the t shirt Axe Handle Hound. Guess what they are out of that beer today. Sampled Bildad Blonde ABV 5% good. Also tried Amber Ale 5% ABV also good. Splinter Cat IPA was good and Tropic Thunder IPA was good. Brewery itself super small taproom but more spacious eating area. Set up all weird, granted this used to be Mickey's Sandwiches in the past. Not overly impressed stop one of 3. For service to occur, one had to wait in a long line for what seems forever. Had the NE IPA, which presented itself as a hazy ipa. It was good, not great. We stopped at the big ask brewing company while staying at Grandview in Nisswa. I ordered a beer flight and my husband ordered a beer and we shared a plate of their nachos. I would definitely recommend the nachos and the rest of the menu looks really good... Would be a great place for lunch or dinner. They had a wide beer selections and decent size food menu with many great options. There was a wood fire pit outside was s'more's kit to enjoy a cold beer by a warm fire. The beer is delicious. My husband loved the IPA. He started with a pint and left with two growlers. We were planning on hitting the liquor store for a beer run on the way home, but no need after discovering Big Axe IPA. My husband sampled the Saison and raved about it as well. I must say the local A&W restaurant may have a run for its money, the fresh brewed root beer at Big Axe is amazing. So good on hot day. This place has a great vibe. The interior design is beautiful. Love sitting in the brewery and feeling the breeze in the summer and I can imagine it will be super cozy this winter. We also noshed on a really yummy appetizer of pretzel bites and sausage platter. 6/24 My wife and I arrived at the location and were not greeted or seated by anyone. This was a bad sign but we decided to give it a try because the menu choices sounded great. After almost an hour of sitting in the bar area we did not receive our drinks, an iced tea and a can of Diet Coke. The people in front of us asked when their food order was going to be ready and was told at least 30 more minutes. We cancelled our order and went across the street. If you want good service or even acknowledged this is not the place. The bartender did not move from where she stood. The female waitress working was buzzing around like a bee but the young male was clueless. He was checking his phone and taking out drink orders one at a time. There was a spill on just outside the kitchen area and he must have stepped over the spill at least 20 times while we were waiting. I will not come back here again. read more

We did a brew run in the Brainerd area. I think Big Axe had the best beers out of the 3 breweries visited that day. Actually, I would go back for the beer alone. We also had lunch there and the food was fantastic! I was rather surprised at how good the food was. I would love to have given 5 stars, but the service sucked. The guy working the order bar was grumpy and unfriendly. He actually made me feel like we were bothering him patronizing the place. If your coming for just a drink your most likely fine, but if you come while its busy and want to order food expect to be waiting for 30+ minutes even if they tell you its less. Fun place to go with friends on not a time crunch but if your an impatient person like me and order food to go that ends up taking 35+ minutes your better off going somewhere else. We got the egg dill salad on a croissant which was good and enjoyed + was the special so only $11 but the staff wasn't friendly, i can understand why with all the tourist you have to deal with but if thats the case try to hire more people or just tell the people in line that at this current time when it gets TOO BUSY the kitchen staff can't take anymore orders right now because their getting overloaded with way too many orders than they can handle. We would have already left if we hadn't paid. Will we come back to get beers or a liter to go sure, but food wise probably not unless they can get more friendly staff in there. read more

Visiting Nisswa area for an overnight girl's relaxation trip. Had read some good reviews for this place and food seemed reasonably priced. When we arrived, all the tables were full. None of the staff acknowledged us so we walked to the bar area to see if we could find a seat. One guy said they would take our order at the bar area, but nobody took our order. We decided to order food to go online and walk around. Online ordering said it would be 30 minutes for our food to be ready, and to call or check in after 30 minutes. We walked around a bit and then sat in the car after we started to get cold. After 45 minutes I went in to grab the food. The man behind the bar said it would be 5-6 more minutes, then went outside and sat with some people around the fire pit. After 15 minutes, the food wasn't ready. Three different staff asked what I was waiting for but none of them could give me a time on the food. There was maybe two other customers at tables having beer. My friend got out of the car to come in and someone at the fire had stated "you've had that car idling for like an hour now." After 30+ minutes of waiting, the girl making the food came out and said she burnt our pretzel and had to make a new one. By the time we left and got back to the resort, the food was cold and soggy. We were shocked by the unprofessionalism and really off put by the attitude by the staff. It was a very odd experience. read more
