Bestie & I checked in at 1:25 & out at 2:07 without ever having a bite to eat. It took several minutes to get our server then 20 minutes to get my soda (after a reminder) and after another 22 minutes I went looking for our server or host. Ended up asking the bartender for my soda tab as we were leaving. She asked what the issue was & I explained that waiting 42 minutes was a bit much for 2 simple meals. She was kind enough to let the drink charge slide & we left. I have been to many restaurants far busier than this & have never had to wait that long for food. Even if I deducted the 10 minutes it took just waiting for our server, it doesn't discount an unusually long wait for simple meals during a very slow period. Stopped by for a Vodka chilled and to catch a vibe after attending an amazing event earlier that day at the Community Council for the Arts, where we gathered to view a documentary of the Adkin High School Walk Out of 1951 (Kudos to the Holder family and J. Willford!). Well, I rolled inside of 222, meandered over to the rear bar and requested that chilled Vodka that I was thirsting for. Ashley suggested Grey Goose, and Liz poured it up. Met two more team members, Blair and Elizabeth, "chopped" it up with Liz and the crew, shared some pics, took some pics, had one more, and left. Awesome people! Small town treasure. My family and I came to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday and we had 14 adults and 8 kids in our party. The staff was incredibly kind and patient with 8 toddlers as we had the entire upstairs to ourselves. They seemed as happy as we were to celebrate my mother while managing an unusually large party for their area. As for the food, I have to say it was fantastic. They have these cheddar biscuits similar to red lobster except it was softer and way more flavorful. I had their seasonal cocktail, I forgot the name it was called lover something but that needs to be a year round drink. I'm an avid steak lover and I score steaks hard. My cut to assess skill is the ribeye cooked medium. When I saw the 16oz steak I was thinking it might be overcooked because it was thinner than what I was expecting. I was surprised to find it was cooked perfectly medium, had an excellent crust, and was a tender bite bursting with flavor. I've been to upscale steakhouses across the country and this small town punches way above its weight class while providing fair pricing. I will definitely visit again. read more

Considering how fair of a reviewer I have always been, I give this restaurant 1 star because the water was cool and refreshing. Minus that, it would have a 0. On Google the reviews were promising so my bestie and I decided to give 222 Chophouse a try while we were out and about geocaching in Kinston. Based on our first impression we probably should've turned around and walked out. We walked in, weren't greeted, stood by the hostess stand while 2 waitresses were in the back chitchatting amongst themselves and after a minute or 2 walked up to sit us. My bestie asked to sit at a 4 seat table to be more comfortable but she refused because "they have been getting really busy and can't give a larger table away" so we were sitting in a 2 person table. She gave us one menu and when we asked what foods were on the brunch buffet we were told "there's only one menu for that and it was lost". Ummmm ok? So we sat a few minutes waiting on our waiter who brought out water and asked if we wanted a cocktail or another type of drink besides water and my friend ordered a Sunkist. My friend informed him of our lack of an additional menu and our quandary with the brunch menu, so he could alert the hostess, who he said was training someone. He took our order and left. 15 mins after my friend ordered her Sunkist it finally was delivered. 20 more mins passed and still not food. That means we were in the restaurant for a total of 40 mins with no food. They weren't busy, maybe 10 people in the entire downstairs part of the restaurant. I can't speak of how many upstairs. Either way when my bestie got up, frustrated, and told the hostess that we were not happy with the wait for the food and were leaving, the hostess had the audacity to say "well I'll go check the timer on the food". Umm no. Absolutely not. Customer service was pitiful and needs to be retrained. Oh and the plants in the window behind us need to be taken outside because there were little gnats flying around them. We will not be back. 40 mins on a slow day is just ridiculous. We probably would've been a little more understanding if they had been a little more accommodating and apologetic. read more

Took my wife with a group of 13 to celebrate her birthday and a friend. When ordering we were told they ran out of 6 and 8 oz filets. Our orders were taken. After an hour with no food we asked if they had bread and was told they decided not to serve any this week. Almost another 40 minutes later was told it would be ten more minutes. After 20 more minutes with no food we got up and left. The waitress was great considering but the manager never came to our table and nobody really seemed to care one way or another. read more

I was part of a group of 18 and we had the upstairs reserved. It took up to 20 minutes to get a drink order. The beer served was warm and the mixed drinks weak. The food came out in spurts which took between 30 and 60 minutes. One steak order was wrong. When checking out they had three bills wrong, all three of which included drinks that the customer had not ordered. Food was average and customer service was definitely below average. Nice decor and the waitresses were nice, though. Everyone in the group walked out complaining. read more

While Kinston doesn't have much to offer, they do have 222 Chophouse with an amazing server named Blaire! We're working here from out of town and I was looking for a nice place to take our crew of 8 for dinner. The food was excellent (highly recommend the crab dip for an app) and the service was just as great! read more

Wonderful time with my sister having an afternoon drink at the bar. The bartender made us a special drink...an affogato martini...and it was perfect. We will not return. Sorry, and this is coming from someone who has been waiting with anticipation for this place to open since they announced! We ordered vodka sodas with lime. He ordered a double and I ordered a single with extra lime. It took 20 min for the drinks to come, and when the drinks arrived, mine had lemon and his was just a glass of vodka. No soda, no lime. She took it back and when it came back, it too had lemon. (They did have lime PS). We did not get bread, and I was also looking forward to that as no one eats bread these days, am I right??! We ordered a wedge salad with blackened shrimp, no tomato, and the prime rib with fries. (My mistake on the fries). When the food arrived, my fries were sweet potato slices with some sort of honey drizzle (again, my mistake, I saw regular fries on the app menu, and just assumed). My prime rib was Medium as requested, but I felt like I had to saw through it with my butter knife.(no offer of a steak knife, but I didn't want to be ugly). My Au jus was some kind of puree' and when I asked about it, I was told it was the house Au jus. It was room temp and not what was expected. The wedge salad with no tomato came out as a spring mix salad, sans tomato, but not a wedge and no shrimp. The waitress fixed the issue, however the blackened shrimp was just boiled shrimp, not to mention the wedge salad came out with tomato. A second round of drinks, extra lime for me, still came with lemon. Lastly, the table was wobbly and the side door was continually opened as people were coming and going as I sat right at that door freezing. People attempting to eat and people leaving. We appreciate fine dinning and good food, something that KTown desperately needs, but this is not it. We ate there last night for Valentine's. We ordered the Porterhouse special medium rare. First let me say the food was good and our waitress was great. It took 45 minutes to get our wine and when our steak came out it was medium well. Our salad came out after steak did. It was smokey inside and a little warm. I guess when you pay that much for a meal you expect a little bit more. I would have thought manager would have come over and explained why things were slow to come out and then under cooked. Let's start with the ambiance: decent decor, but with exposed refrigeration lines and a door that seemed intent on giving us the Arctic experience every time someone entered or exited. Talk about chilling out! The staff? Friendly, but a bit like a comedy sketch. Our waitress, bless her heart, took her time showing up, forgot the water after the first round, and seemed genuinely puzzled about how to mix a vodka soda. After a long wait, our drinks arrived--wrong again. Lemon instead of lime. We rolled with it; didn't want to push our luck on the lime front. Victoria's prime rib? Perfectly cooked, but with mystery sauce instead of au jus, and those sweet potato wedges? Honey-drizzled imposters. My salad? Well, after the first attempt came out as a mixed greens salad with no shrimp, they finally brought me a wedge--this time with tomato and boiled shrimp, tails still on. Not quite what I ordered, but at that point, accuracy seemed like a lost cause. To cap it off, no bread for us. Apparently, we missed the secret handshake for bread service--should've asked! We joked about the experience as we left, but the next morning, I woke up in a downright foul mood. That's how disappointing the experience was.
