    Chicken Piccata
    Maryann F.

Delicious! Had the chicken piccata substituted the side pesto pasta for more piccata sauce. I initially thought the portion was small but could only eat half and took the other half home. My friend had the fettuccine Alfredo and enjoyed it. The side salad was fresh and the Italian dressing was very good as well as the bread that came out with the meal. Topped with a delicious glass of the Sauvignon blanc. Atmosphere, service and decor was nice. Can't wait to try the patio dining when it warms up. Will definitely return to try other dishes. Highly recommend.

Love having a local establishment with a family that knows Italian and really pours their heart and soul into every plate served. Unfortunately we did not experience this on December 28 when we made reservations for 6 people at 6 pm. We were seated promptly but from that point on it was disappointing. Drinks came out in spurts. Appetizer took about 30-minutes to arrive. Thankfully the meals did not immediately follow. But where was our dinner? About 50 minutes later dinner finally arrived - again in spurts. I think the restaurant may have been understaffed and still acclimating to an expansion they just finished. I guess we will let them work out the kinks and when we need a fix on Italian food, head to our other favorite place in MHC.

After one year of living in North Carolina, I am pleased to have accidentally found this authentic Italian restaurant in New Bern as I pass through to a work recruitment event. Upon doing some research, I learned this restaurant was established in 2001. Ever since the restaurant has been doing quite well with great reviews. The food was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable about each menu choice. After ordering our appetizer, Garlic Bread to go with our wine [I had Pinot Noir - Red Wine which was a great pairing with my entree]. As we waited for the Garlic Bread, another waitress brought out a warm loaf of delicious bread and a dish of dipping sauce made up of excellent olive oil, balsamic vinegar, oregano and parmesan. We ordered our entrees before starting to eat. I had the Chicken Parmigiana. It is served over Homemade Spaghetti and tomato sauce with mozzarella. As the entrees arrived, we soon realized that our eyes had overwhelmed our capacity. The portions were large. We had more food left than we ate [the garlic bread was delicious!] ... So, we ordered another loaf of the delightful bread to go with our leftovers. Our waitress also enclosed a container of dipping sauce and boxed and bagged all the leftovers. Everything was put into perfect carryout containers for reheating. I was very impressed with our first visit and look to repeated visits to this Italian restaurant. I am looking forward to trying the extensive expanded evening menu. The entrees include many personal Italian favourites. Our waitress, Rene is one of the perfect examples of what it takes to be a great waitress and one of the many reasons we want to return. The owner, Piero was wonderful as well. He came out to check on how the customers and ask how the food was. I appreciated seeing the owner being involved in his restaurant. He worked the cashier register, took orders, brought out food and so on.

Have I ever had a not so great experience there, yes. I called, spoke with manager on duty, and as much as we come there, she knew who my husband was (we eat mostly take out at home now). The staff is great, the food is great and I love the inside of the restaurant, especially the booths! I will not write someone off for one bad experience just because of one, which was taken care of promptly! So, my opinion is, go there, find what looks good to you on the menu and try it. I do not think you will be disappointed. I give 37th Street a A+ and will continue to unless something horrible happens.

Upon arrival, the building looks nice and somewhat upscale. When inside, we were also ok with the atmosphere. It was somewhat quiet, clean, and their menu seemed very diverse. It was a mix of a little GOOD sprinkled with a lot of BAD from there. The waitress was slow and had no personality. She brought drinks, and when we were ordering, we asked to substitute pasta for something else. She said, "There were no subs, and adding something like veggies would be a cost". Beyond the rude tone she gave us, that is a terrible policy when ordering a $20 meal and then having to pay extra because pasta is NOT on your diet. Further, anyone with gluten issues would be forced to pay extra for any meal that has pasta as a side, and that's half the menu or more. That wasn't all : the salads were overloaded with black olives, the thousand island dressing was lousy, the bread was completely tasteless (and the butter as well, somehow), and the wait for the food was excessive considering it wasn't very busy. The good side was the sausage w/peppers I had was good, and the chicken w/spinach my wife had was also enjoyed - so the main dishes themselves weren't bad. With everything else on the poor side, we won't be back.

They worked well together and made sure we were well taken care of. If you went to a restaurant just for the staff then this would get them five stars. But I don't come just for the staff or ambiance. I come to restaurants for the food and with a limited budget I want value and quality for our money. When we go to a place we haven't tried before I like to try sampler plates or try smaller portions of more items to learn what they are good at. Most BBQ joints have a sampler platter but there wasn't one on the menu. I asked about it and they said it was common to get smaller portions of the proteins as a combo (again not on the menu) but if you do it, doesn't come with the bread or the side even though the price is a bit more. You get to choose three meats. Ok I ordered the sausage, burnt ends, pork belly and a side of fries. The sausage was very good, thank you. The pork belly was a very small portion and fattier than I've had before, sweetened and too salty. The burnt ends were bad, I couldn't even finish them. Perhaps the worst burnt ends I've ever had. Very salty, I mean way too much salt. greasy, truly burnt not just the bark and meat like most burnt ends, and the sauce wasn't very good either. I was really disappointed. The fries were great, I would come here just for those. My wife ordered the turkey pot pie which was small and dry. She asked for some gravy on the side which they promptly got out. She indicated it was very good gravy.

First off, the name is a little deceiving, this place has a more complete menu than just pizza and sandwiches. And then there is the bakery section! Don't miss that! I've tried the Ruben which was great, best I've had since I moved to NC. Both times we had the fries which are generous and there was plenty for us to share. The vibe here is local, there are clearly regulars and everyone is friendly, including the other customers who are all chatty and friendly. The staff is prompt and professional but also have that more casual vibe, we felt our waitress cared about us genuinely. I see other complain that its busy, if a restaurant is not busy it's failing. We did not have to wait, sat ourselves and were immediately brought menus. Our lunch was great and filling. But then we headed to the bakery... It's small but it has everything, cakes, cookies, preserved jellies. artisan olive oils, pastry, cupcakes etc. Everything we have tried has been really good. There are no batteries in the town where we live, and none in the two neighboring towns either despite being larger than New Bern. We find ourselves in New Bern a few times a month and are adding Famous Subs and Pizza to our list of regular stops. Even if we are not eating here we will pick up a selection of treats and fresh bread to take home with us.
