I recently engaged Art Craft in Santa Maria for a paint quote on my Lancair Evolution after seeing…read moreone of their Instagram ads. I sent them my detailed paint scheme, exchanged multiple emails, and followed up with a phone call to ensure they understood the specifics of my aircraft--especially that it's a carbon fiber plane, not aluminum. A few line items in their original quote were clearly geared toward aluminum work, which raised a flag. But they were adamant they knew Evolutions well and had painted them before. That reassurance gave me confidence to continue, despite the quote having a lot of vague line items and wiggle room. I even flew my aircraft up there, burning 30 gallons of JetA per hour each way, just to inspect the shop and verify the quality firsthand. Expensive, yes--but now I see it as cheap insurance. Once on-site, I was greeted by Teressa, the owner--warm, charismatic, and clearly passionate. But during the walk-through, the story started to shift. "Oh? You want that painted?" "Oh, those areas too?" I was surprised. On a Lancair Evolution, doors and wheel wells are always painted--that's standard, not optional. If you really know the aircraft, these shouldn't be surprises. Sure enough, the next day, I received a revised quote that was 20% higher than the one we'd already reviewed. That confirmed my suspicion: the original quote was less a firm offer and more of a bait-and-switch. Buyer beware: If you're considering Art Craft, make absolutely sure that your quote is locked, detailed, and reflects the actual aircraft and scope. If they say they know your plane, hold them to that. Don't be afraid to revise their language or insist on clearer terms. And to Art Craft: You've clearly got a capable team and strong aesthetic chops--but quoting is part of the service. If you say you know these planes, your pricing should reflect that from the start. Trust matters.

The airport has its advantages and disadvantages. I like this airport, the parking is free. With…read morethe costs of "everything" increasing charging for parking would seem a no brainer for this public airport but parking is free. The airport is whistle clean! Including the restrooms! I'm waiting for a flight to Vegas on this warm Sunday in January. Plenty of seating at the gate (both of them). When I was a kid I flew into some old, small, airports, nostalgic. This airport although small is classy. The Allegiant staff and airport staff have all been professional and in a neighborly way. My gripe is the Vending area/machines...really two of four were broken, none of them have the "price" you'll pay. Then it was a guessing game as to which flavor of sodas are remaining inside the machine. I'd suggest a new vender to replace the current company. Never the less it is what it is, I've seen American airlines will soon be competing for gate access, good for all of us. The restaurant Pepper Garcia's is pretty good, we often plan on a pre-flight snack. (see Yelp reviews). Safe Travels Martin Foodguy Thanks Martin-Foodguy

This airport could be amazing, but it seems to choose not to be. When I first moved here, it was…read moreactually quite decent. You could fly to Hawaii, San Francisco, Seattle, Colorado Springs, and Las Vegas nearly every day. Now not so much. In theory, you could get to the Midwest from here, but it would take some finagling. I think two airtime services at this airport now. After years of protest, you can now fly to connecting cities like Phoenix. PROS: Free parking! Local to Vandenberg Space Force Base. CONS: Limited flights to Las Vegas. Well there is a lot less CONS these days for this gateway these days

Well here we go...M takes the flight to Las Vegas to Santa Maria at least once a month…read more This month its my turn, I've flown a lot in my life and this is my first Allegiant flight...So here goes...I arrived two hours ahead of departure time. The check in line was a bit slow, I needed to get a boarding pass as the electronic version wasn't available for me (another story) Part of the slow moving line was a computer that was causing the operator some frustration. The other agent was obligated to help those is the "Premier" passenger status. I had no luggage to check so it was an easy process to get my B Pass and move on to the TSA. I'm of pre-check status and was quickly checked and ushered to the departure gate. The crew did a fast job to turn the plane around, my hats off to them. We were nearly if not completely full and the door was closed 10 minutes early. Lets Go! and soon enough we were in the air, Santa Maria doesn't have much air traffic. The drink cart was pushed down the isle, everything is for sale, no complementary sodas on this airline...Which brings me to my critique, of Allegiant. The flight was advertised @ $93 round trip, Okay great BUT the BS additional fees, baggage, gate fee, combination fee, ah... TSA fee, taxes, out the door at $ 213.00. This kind of literal deception should be illegal. Tell us the price, period. Allegiant certainly isn't the only company or business with this practice. You can say Well I'm not bringing luggage so you can't charge me for that, right We are not given a choice so why isn't it just part of what their going to charge for a flight. Well we know the reason Ah no thanks I'm not paying $4 for a can of soda water, thanks foodguy-martin
