That said, I went to Tom at this barber shop after he made an appointment for me over the phone. I found him via the review sites. Tom is very personable and easy to talk to. Like I always do at the beginning, I quickly explain how I want my hair cut. I have moved away from clippers up the sides and scissors up top to scissors all the way around because the clipped sides look too "military" when freshly cut. The main thing I asked for is that it 'lay over a little bit' on top. This is because I don't like it too short and spikey on top. He asked if I parted it. I told him I don't since it doesn't lend itself to parting and that I just work it into place with my hands. It turned out a little shorter than I would have liked. Note that it was a balanced haircut. That it was. Considering the area, his price was also appropriate and I tipped him. Just out of curiosity, I had asked a stylist/barber shop in the mostly Dominican area at the top end of Manhattan near the Cloisters the day before how much they wanted and ... yeah, right. So I made the appointment here with Tom. This is the classic rendition of the barber shop with the multi-colored diagonal bars twirling around behind a round glass cylinder outside. Also, the shop is right on the route of several NJ Transit buses that will take you to and from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan in short order.

The stylist then spent most of his time watching a program on television instead of paying attention to the haircut he was giving. Perhaps I should've stopped him and walked out, but he had already started, and my hair was a bit long, so I really wanted it cut. When he was finished, he put product in my hair before I had the chance to really examine what he had done. I went home and washed the product out. That's when I had time to take a good look at the haircut, and realized that not only was it crooked, but it was also quite uneven, and much longer in some spots than others. In addition to the stylist being completely unprofessional, it's possibly the worst haircut I've ever received in my life. I will never go back.

These guys are the worst at communicating. First i went for a walk in on saturday because they…read moredidn't have their phone on google. He turned me down and gave me his business card. Keep in mind his card doesn't have his opening or closing hours so i started calling him at around 9, he answered his phone at 1. First thing he says is we open at 11, stop calling. Bro, it's 1 o'clock, and you never told me when you open. So I ask him when he's available, throughout the whole conversation he's very dismissive, and I tell him to book me for the only time they have available, he asks me for my name to make the appointment and books me for saturday 3. So I show up there today and he tells me they didn't set me up. So I'm trying to get to the bottom of it, there are 2 barbers in the shop. He first says I didn't call them, and some other place. I show him the business card he gave me and they determine which one of them I called. Then he tells me he told me the available time that they had, and didn't actually book it, because he claims I didn't ask him to. So I tell him that I actually did, and then he tells me that it was booked while we were on the phone through the mobile app by someone else(Which i have no knowledge about, even if that was the case I suppose he has to call me and let me know so I don't show up at his place for an appointment he failed to book). Also if that was the real case why would he keep changing the reason why they didnt set me up. Bottom line, these guys are dodgy and disrespectful. They blame the customer for the mistakes that they make. I have no idea about the quality of the haircut that they give, but nothing can make up for the horrible characters that they have.
