Expensive ! I had situation where I needed a locksmith to come out same day on a Sunday afternoon. I needed the lock rekeyed for front house gate and front door behind the gate. The door comes with a top lock too. At first he quoted me $450 for all 3 locks . I felt financially gutted , but I needed to get it done so I reluctantly agreed. Then he calls me back and says $500. There is an extra surcharge to use a credit card . Jeez ... The man was very nice and I can't say anything negative for his workmanship. I went in to have a key made but mostly to see if they could open an antique piggy bank I found among my elderly fathers things as we are moving him, sadly, to a care facility and are clearing out his things. I don't have a key to the little bank. The two guys who helped me were so personable and charming and took great care to pick the lock so as not to destroy the piggy bank book. I joked I was sure the bank was filled with pirate gold pieces. Attitude is everything. I literally got off the phone with them 2 min ago. I called them around 9:30 am this morning and the guy quote me around $110 to get a car key replacement and I will receive a follow-up call from the technician which I did 10 min later. The technician said that it's around $200 - $300 and when I said that it didn't match the original quote he said that he has to check and get back to me. So he hung up and never called back. Now, a few hours later 2:45 pm I called back and they said it's around $200 - $300. When I said I'm ok I am comparing prices and other people quoted me half the price he shit talks other locksmith businesses saying I QUOTE: "The other people are lying to you if they quote you anything cheaper than that". And then he hung up. Yelp should be stricter about these fake yelp profiles trying to give businesses fake 5 star reviews. read more

We lost the key to our vehicle and called the company and they stated they couldn't come until tomorrow morning between 8 and 10 am. We waited until the next day and they called at 9 am, stating someone would be calling to give a ETA. We got a call at 10:30 am stating a technician was on the way. We go to the car and wait for an hour. Call the company and he says he is going to call the technician to see where he is and hangs up. Still no call back after another 30 minutes call again. Again, he's fast, he's good, he took 20 minutes to get to my door and then it was a fast 5-10 minutes after that, but for all that 5-10 minutes he charged me basically 300$. Steven came out to estimate re-keying 5 cylinders and installing a keyed double sided dead bolt. Steven said the new deadbolt would not be keyd like the other locks. He started with a $29 service fee just to come and provide an estimate and then worked up to a total of $879!! He wanted $195 for the dead bolt plus $155 to install it, $65 to rekey each of the five Schlage cylinder plus $44 to "install" each. We had not even gotten to the cost of the keys yesterday. His approach was very high pressure, wanting to start before he provided a written quote. When I told him that was a lot more than I was expecting he discounted the total to $717 and when I still thought that was too high he discounted the quote to $700. I paid the $29 service fee and told him I would call if I wanted to go forward. Called a local locksmith shop that had been there for three generations who would do the whole job, including 10 keys, for less than $300 This was less than half 24-7's final best " very discounted" offer. Caveat emptor. Extremely high prices, high pressure sales and they totally turned me off before even starting the work. I regret the $29 service fee I paid just to get an unacceptable quote. read more

He understands if you're panicked about your home security, or if you're locked out, or your key to the neighbor's place is missing and you're worried about whether everything is alright next door. A few months ago, my neighbor got locked out of his house on a Friday evening and came over to our place, asking for some help. We immediately went to yelp to find a solution. After calling several supposed 24-hour locksmith services, all of whom explained that they wouldn't be able to get to us until Monday (what???), Steve from 24-7 picked up immediately (we'd had to wait for call backs from many of the others), and said he could be there in 30-45 mins. And then he showed up in 15 minutes or less. It was a troublesome lock and we were worried about whether our friend's roommate was alright inside or not, since he wasn't answering the phone. Steve was sympathetic to our concerns and did a great job. A few weeks later, I had an ongoing problem with my own front door and was told I had to replace the entire door and frame just to be able to get the locks to work right. After such a great first experience, I called Steve back to our block. Same promptness, same great service. Steve listens and assesses your situation and then makes good suggestions for your best options to resolve the issues. He doesn't try to sell you the most expensive solutions. Instead, he tries saving you money and time. He also keeps his word and shows up when he says he will. I've recommended him to a couple of people who have also been really happy. A great and trustworthy guy, a skilled locksmith and a knowledgeable security professional. I contacted 24-7 Security & Locksmith SF this morning in a panic because I had a flight scheduled at noon. I went out for a cup of coffee and upon return noticed that they lockbox outside my vacation rental had been broken into, the key was missing and I had no way to enter the unit to collect my belongings. I contacted a few companies and 24-7 S & L SF was the only one to answer without having to leave a message. Within 20 minutes of placing the call a technician was at my door and ready to provide access and change the locks for the property owner. The lock change took a total of 10 minutes and I was on my way to the airport with plenty of time to spare. I found the service to be fast, reliable, and fairly priced (the property owner wanted to charge me more than double the expense I incurred). After this experience I was excited to hear the company also operate out of NYC (my home town) and do access control system installation, I 100% plan to use them in NYC to secure my medical practice offices as we plan to relocate in the next few months. I called this company on a Sunday night (8ish) as one of my tenants garage door needed to be opened & maybe a new lock needed to be installed. It has an auto opener but it was locked & we didn't have a key to pen it. I first asked for charges. They said $55 for the service call, nothing about applying that to the total charges if they did the work like most businesses would offer. He said they couldn't tell me the cost until they looked at the work. He comes within 30 mins. He looked at the garage door to understand what needed to be done. He charges me $166 to open the door as he said the lock was really old & he had to drill it. He does & he opens the door. He said $100 more for a new lock. I said okay. The problem is that I feel I was charged twice. If I only wanted a new lock, would I have only be charged $100? Instead I was Charged for taking out the old lock & another charge for putting in a new lock! Seems like an overcharge to me! Not exactly an honest thing to do - in my opinion! Can't say I would use them again. The tag on this was + 7/17/19 Steven, the owner reached out to me after my post so we could resolve my dissatisfaction of the charge. He explained to me his company's charge structure, which I wasn't clear about when the work was done. The tech came his name was Chris if i remember right dude was cool as hell and pro as hell he went to work on my door and the thing he said to me when he was trying to get into my door was "Im gonna try my best to get the door open without drilling and messing anything up so you dont lose your security deposit" THATS what i call customer service right there haha. Especially after reading the reviews, I had really wanted to like this locksmith service; I even bought the $20 for $35 Yelp voucher. My experience with 24-7 Security & Locksmith turned an inconvenience into a prolonged nightmare. Among other egregious offenses, Vai took no fewer than 3.5 hours to break not only the lower lock but also the in-door locking mechanism of my apartment. Sure, he had to break the lock to get in, but he said he could replace it. Then he spent three more hours trying to replace the lock, only to blame the locking mechanism of the door, which he himself had damaged. Along the way, when I asked him how much longer longer it would take (I had evening plans), he said every time, "10 more minutes." Since I had first asked him this an hour into the 3.5-hour ordeal, you can imagine how many times he set wildly inaccurate expectations--a real stickler for over-promising and under-delivering, I guess. Meanwhile, he left a pile of paint, metal specks paint and screws on my couch, across my floor and in the hallway carpet outside. Imagine trying to find every dark-colored screw that had rolled into the corners of your floor or into your dark blue couch in the hopes of avoiding tetanus. After three hours of trying to replace the lock, Vai finally gave up. He gave a veritable soliloquy on how he had never encountered a lock this difficult, how hard he had tried, how much time he had invested, how I should be thankful he didn't charge by the hour and how benevolent he was to not charge me extra for the second duplicate key. He went into detail about how our interaction merited a five-star review on Yelp, which would bring him new business. Never mind that, in addition to those gross violations above, he had parked illegally outside my apartment and had me sit outside by the driveway in the chilly evening air for a half hour to make sure his car didn't get towed. Never mind that he misplaced items left and right and spent upwards of 15 minutes each time looking for them--such that I went scavenging along with him in trashcans and the like to find his missing tool. Need I say, also, that when I first called 24-7 in the first place, I ended up receiving calls from two separate locksmiths affiliated with this company (Vai and some guy named either "Ben" or "Sven")--asking to meet me up at separate times? This was ostensibly not Vai's doing, but the professionalism and competence of the receptionist certainly left much to be desired. In the end, Vai charged me $300+, and when I presented my voucher, he kept trying to suggest that I save it for the next time I worked with this service. (At this point, I was like, "No way in hell am I calling you guys again.") He took pictures of the locking mechanism that he had broken. He promised that he would look for the locking mechanism and give me a call the following Tuesday or Wednesday with an update and, hopefully, a time to meet so he could replace the mechanism. Which, of course, would cost extra. The cherry on top? It is now Sunday--four+ days after he said he would call. I have not heard from him. What a stand-up guy. read more

Signs that should have been red flags: 1) Via works out of a trunk of his hatch back and a utility bag. 2) Used large pliers to remove old lock cylinder and used again to install new lock cylinder. 3) Quoted prices on parts without even having them on hand. Here's my experience - I called this company last Wednesday because I was having issues with a front entrance. They seemed to have good reviews and Steve set up the appointment fairly quickly for that day. I showed up for the appointment on time and was waiting for the locksmith. To my surprise, this guy Via shows up in a hatch back car 5 minutes late. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I tell him that the latch isn't locking and needs to be fixed. His solution is to have key cylinder replaced. $250 dollars later ($175 for the lock cylinder), he says it's fixed and his work is guaranteed for a year. 3 days later (Saturday), I go by the property to test the lock because a tenant complained that it's not locking. I call Via up and tell him that the lock isn't working. His response is that he can't go that day, but will go Monday morning at 9am to spend more time on the lock. He also says that he will give me wholesale pricing on any parts that may need to get replaced for my troubles. Come Monday morning... He doesn't show up until 5pm. This was me even texting him throughout the day of where he's at. After he spends 30 minutes or so on it, his solution is to remove the face plate. Really? Another 2 days later, I get another call from a tenant that the front door isn't locking. I text Via to inform him of the issue and he responses that the next step would be to replace the lock assembly. He quotes me $200 for labor, $175 for parts and another $50 for a service fee = $425. I ask him why it's $200 for labor and he says it's a 3-4 hour job plus he's giving me the lock assembly for 50% off. He says he normally charges $175 an hour for labor. I said I'm no locksmith, but how does it that 3-4 hours to replace a lock assembly. He responded that he has to remove the lock assembly then drive to his warehouse to match the part and then come back to install it! WTH?! By this point, I try reaching out to his business partner, Steve. I tell him everything I wrote above and he says that he'll get to the bottom of it the next day and that he would personally come out to repair the lock if he needed. So the next morning, I text Steve for an update... He responds that he's going to a doctors appointment but will be free after 6pm. I wait til a little after 6pm and I hear nothing... I text him again for an update and he responses that he's in traffic from Palo Alto. 8pm comes around... nothing. I text him if he's coming out to repair the lock. Steve responses, no. So why was I waiting around all day for him? A few minutes later, I get a call from Via asking me why I'm asking Steve about his jobs. Via says that his quote of $425 is lowest he could do it for, but I could try to find another locksmith at that price or better... So I did. I called another locksmith the very next day. The new company send a locksmith, which was driving a van with all the parts and tools needed to repair the lock. While the new locksmith was removing the lock cylinder that Via installed, it was discovered that Via crossed stripped the threads when he used the large pliers to install the cylinder. As a result, it had to be replaced again! Not once did this new locksmith use a hammer or pliers to repair the lock. 40 minutes later and a bill for $200 ($70 lock assembly, $30 for a new lock cylinder and $100 for labor). For less than half the cost and a fraction of the time, job completed. Happy customer. Thank god I called another company. Never again would I use or recommend 24-7 Security & Locksmith. These two people are the most dishonest & unprofessional people I've ever worked with as a property manager. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more
