27 Tattoo is THE best tattoo studio in Salt Lake City. Hands down. I personally go to Erin and she is the sweetest and nicest person but most importantly she is an amazing artist. Her photorealistic, geometric shapes, and stipple/dot work is unmatched by any artist I've seen anywhere. Every time I am in the studio the environment is always welcome and fun. Playing games with the music that plays with everyone in the studio or laughing at dumb jokes. It really helps keep your mind on something other than the tattoo work being done and the time just flies by without trouble. Everyone is so nice and welcoming and doesn't look down on anyone whether you are in for your first tattoo or for your 20th. I highly recommend EVERY artist at 27 as Vic and ERIN have worked very hard to make sure that only the top talents and best people work for them. I have future plans and desires to get a piece done by multiple other artists in the studio, if I can get onto their schedules as well in the future. I also want to add that when I first told friends and coworkers where I got my work done, they have always been jealous and had excellent things to say about the studio and particularly for Erin and Vic. Hours stated online 11am - 7pm. We have been standing in front of the shop for 20 minutes, called the number, rang the first time then was obviously knocked off the hook hearing only a busy signal. We are standing out front as a blue haired woman is tattooing inside and won't answer. This is disappointing because this place was highly recommended. I have been to many tattoo shop for decades all over the world and this is unprofessional and misleading. The hours of operation are clearly posted online and we where trying to come schedule an appointment. This is thousands of dollar and a skilled trade I don't take lightly. I go to R2 here and would never let anyone else ever work on my skin. I have to say that this tattoo shop is not your every day tattoo parlor. Its more like a relaxing napping station with an incredible atmosphere. I have seen the work the other artists do here and its nothing short of UH MAZ ING. Why would you go to a dirty shop (maybe one located nearby where people should be fired when they cant spell the words they tattoo onto people correctly) with mediocre artists when you can go here? I went to Daniel Duckett for a custom floral piece. I wanted heavy contrast, and a somewhat cluttered design without it looking too busy. Daniel gave it his all and I walked away with an amazing piece that I get compliments on all the time. He has some serious skill. I have been getting tattooed by Vic at 27 for the past two years. When I moved to Utah I asked around about who I should take a look at as far as artists go, and Vic's name kept coming up. Sure enough his stuff was amazing. He is arguably the best tatoo artist is Utah. I emailed him my idea for a tattoo and heard back after about a week or so. I went in for the consultation and was expecting him to be fairly cocky or stand-offish but he's a super nice guy who goes out of his way to make clients feel comfortable. Complete with terrible puns to make you groan/laugh. His work is great, and I get compliments on his pieces all the time. As does my girlfriend (who has a three quarter sleeve made by him). I could not have picked a better studio than 27 for my first tattoo. The studio exudes a tranquil and comforting ambience. Most important, the studio is very clean! The best part.... The artists are aware of who enters the studio; they make sure that every patron is greeted and taken care of. And... the artists are AMAZING! Vic is working on my piece (which incorporates water-waves, cherry blossoms, and a samurai sword - mostly in black and gray with the cherry blossoms in color). Vic is a truly talented artist. Until just recently I had been tattooed exclusively by 27's Amanda Powell. She is incredible and has really developed a style of her own her tattoos are bold and strong yet delicate and carry an effeminate undertone. She is also very versatile and has been up for every idea I have brought to the table. I love every single tattoo she has done for me and recommend her to anyone I talk to that is looking to get work done. However, 27 is a collective of some of SLC's very best artists. A few who I've had my eye of for future tattoos. 27 is owned by Vic Back and the vibe of the shop is very spa-like.. I've been to some douchey shops where people are being super vulgar and blasting the most aggressive music possible. This shop is 100% the opposite. Darrell Palmer turned my mastectomy scars into beautiful tattoos. I had scars from my surgerys on my breast. I hated looking at it. It made me think of the hard time I had to go through. I DONT RECOMMEND THE OWNER VIC OR DARRELL FROM 27 TO ANYONE! IF UR LOOKING 2WORK WITH AN HONEST, TRUSTING, RESPECTABLE & WELL MANNERED TATTOOIST. THEY R NOT IT! My experience was w/the owner & artist Darrell. Service was by far the worst I have experienced in any tattoo shop in the SLC valley. It is horrible!!! They get u in, work on u, then charge u what they want after all said and done. My original quote $125 changed up mid tattoo w/no notice. Per Darrell, he charges $100-$150 an hr. $100 if HE feels he didnt do a good job & could of done more. $150hr if HE feels he did his job & did it well! He assumed his tips! The owner, when confronted and asked if this was appropriate had a very rude, foul, egotistical response. Mentioned he had no time to discuss the issue, hurried me off the phone, told me he would get my deposit back and I am to never show my F@cking face around there ever and hung up on me! I spent $2,350 for a sleeve in which had a big section done prior to me coming in. My sleeve is now left 1/2 done. My $200 deposit, gone! They blocked me on FB from leaving a review. So I imagine all the reviews are good on FB. BEWARE! If u do take ur chances get ur agreement in writing! Or they will charge u whatever they would like. I cannot speak for the other artists other than I see they do good work. The was owner is very rude & has a don't bother him attitude has no customer service skills! He had from day one! Day one the UT Health Inspectors were there when I arrived. The parking is horrible. They are no help when asking where to park either. My first appointment I got ignored when asked. The demeanor from the owner was cold, irresponsive, ignorant, he didn't welcome me or ask if I needed help. I had to figure out who my artist was. Horrible people to work with! They get u in and get u where they want you and take advantage of your pocket book and act errogant doing so! AGAIN, I can't speak for the other artists. My review is not only about my artist but for people who seem to be confused about how they operate/the phone. This is all my personal experience and things I have observed during my many appointments through the last few years. My artist is Nic Solis, words cannot express my appreciation, admiration, and all around good feeling toward this gentleman. Nic not only has done custom work on me, I also have a piece done completely by him with his creative freedom, and I have a rework/cover up in process by him. What I love most about Nic is he is humble, he does a great job and is a phenomenal artist but he really appreciates his clients, I have also observed this in other artists throughout the shop as well though I've never personally gotten work from anyone else. I have Heisenberg from breaking bad on my thigh, I had seen a drawing Nic had done just for fun and told him I'd love it tattooed. Instead of doing that same drawing he went and re-watched the series, pausing on various parts to get reference, then proceeded to create an entire new drawing for the tattoo. To me, that is some serious dedication and passion for your work, he has not only done this for me but similar situations for others as well. For me though, yes in a way the tattoo artist is being paid by me to do me a service, but I think people forget they are their own people with feelings and they are artists who mostly are in the business to create. So walking in with work you saw on someone else saying you want it or wanting a tattoo exactly like one you found online isn't very exciting for them. And yes, these guys can be scheduled out many months to years at a time, THAT IS A GOOD THING. That doesn't mean all walk in shops are bad, but if you see an artist is busy and you've seen their phenomenal work, it more than likely means they do great jobs, then enough people like myself set up many appointments that span months to a year at a time. For the people trying to get a hold of the shop. They might have base operating hours on here, but they are there whenever the artist have appointments, so there isn't really a set time. Usually appointments start around 11-12, so most likely there will be someone there through out the day starting around that time. And about the phone, most the artists are in the middle of work, they'd have to stop, take off gloves, and get to the phone in time for you to stay on the line. This shop does not have a secretary, it is only the artists in the shop at the time to help you out. But never in my time here have I seen them ignore someone right out until they left. They usually greet someone asking what they need, and let them know they can help them when they either have a good stopping point or give them the information they seek. No compassion, annelisa is now ignoring me, 27 can't answer their phone and I can't get vic back to get back to me. 27 has no messaging to try to use on their FB page.
