After getting multiple botched single needle tattoos from these Utah estheticians and "self-taught" single needle tattoo artists, I finally made the decision get them covered up. I waited 5-6 months to see Mina and it was worth the wait (honestly the time went by so fast too). Mina has done a lot of my friends' tattoos and they recommended me to see her. Not only do they have great things to say about Mina, a lot of my friends have great things to say about Mercy in general. The shop is clean and you can smell that it's clean and sterile. The people there are nice, they play great music, and they also sell really cool merch. You can definitely find an artist that does something in the style you want, especially if you want Japanese traditional. They even have an artist that does anime panels (which I feel like it's hard to find in Utah)! Ever since I started going to Mercy last year, Mina has done all of my tattoos and two of my cover ups from the horrible single needle tattoos. Her artistic ability and vision for tattoo placement and cover ups was so mind blowing to me. All my tattoos are done in black and white and it looks so clean. Her lines are steady and she's FAST, but very detailed at the same time. Whenever I get tattooed, she always has the other artists coming around to view her work. She's amazing. I'm honestly honored to be tattooed by Mina, she's awesome and I always get compliments on my tattoos now. I can't wait to come back soon for my next piece! Thank you to everyone at Mercy. I called day of to see if they could take a walk in and give me a quote. My artist was Andy and he was phenomenal. I wanted to get some scars covered and he was so knowledgeable regarding what I should expect as I'd never gotten a tattoo over fairly significant scars before. Wow. If you're on the fence about making an appointment at Mercy, let me kick you to the side of DO IT!! I, at the last minute, had a long layover in SLC and wanted to get a tattoo done that I'd be considering for awhile. By chance, John had a cancellation and was able to work me into his day. He helped me decide on location, size, was very thorough in explaining why he suggested wrist over ribs, and was great to talk to during the process. The result? Perfection. Good music but not overpowering. Let's face it, many studios blast death metal, which I don't hate but when it is so loud you can't hear, it presents a problem. I got a tattoo last night from Michael. I wanted something simple (symbolic of my mom) and he was able to knock it out in less than an hour. He was efficient, got the job done, and made it look so beautiful! I had a really great experience there! I highly recommend stopping by the shop... it's very clean and put together. As far as appointments go, I called the store prior and asked if they had any availability for a walk-in. Within a half hour of calling, I drove out to Mercy, showed them a reference, left them my name/number, and walked around town. They called me within another half hour to come to the shop. The amount of joy and appreciation I have for Marina is truly a ton. She absolutely killed it with the tattoo she provided me with. I had given her a simple idea of my logo, and then she added a touch of detail and even another request of roots on the fly. To be a good tattoo artist (I've met quite a few), I really believe the success starts with ability, and my artist Marina fit the bill. Her attention to detail is where excellence lies and the fact that she didn't have a 'heavy hand' made it real comfortable receiving the ink (my healing has been great). Next, they need to be personable and have the personality to be authentic and have good stories about their life-also Marina (she's a climber!). Lastly, you can tell a lot about a shop of how the artists interact together and converse during the duration of your overall time in the shop; Mercy has good people in here. One hell of a shop, definitely somewhere to check out if you're looking for ink. It seems like they really specialize in American Traditional/Japanese style tattooing, and they are damn good at it. I didn't get tattooed here, but a good friend of mine did, and I was along for the ride, so here's what I noticed. +1 for just a very clean shop. It's one of those shops that certainly has an air of professionalism, and it is extremely clean. Sterilization and good hygiene is something you need not worry about here. My friend got tattooed by a man named Andy Canino, who actually lives in Denver (and works at a place called Dedication Tattoo) but apparently he comes to Salt Lake quite frequently. Lucky for my friend, the man is a beast. My friend came in with an idea, Andy drew it up almost instantly, and we were ready to get it done within 20 minutes. By the way, it seems walk ins are quite easy to come by in this shop. Anyway, this tattoo was decently sized, had quite a bit of detail, and so I anticipated maybe a good hour and a half, two hours to get it done. Andy zipped through it like I've never seen anyone do before. But the kicker is, it looks amazing. He is fast, but the work was so immaculate it looked like it took hours to do. He is a true professional, and very, very talented. By all accounts though, mostly everyone here seems hella talented. I looked through their flash work, and could certainly tell they knew what they were doing. This is a fantastic shop, and I would highly recommend it. Particularly if you're a fan of American traditional. It's a little steeply priced, but if you're getting something permanent on your body, you may as well fucking go for it. read more

I have gone to Michael Bergfaulk for 3 tattoos so far and I'm going back for a 4th in January. He does amazing work. I always take his suggestions on the designs I've thought about as he has so much experience and he wants it to look amazing. Probably the best line work I've ever seen. I would be confident in going to anyone here. Shop was super clean, and not super cluttered like most tattoo places. The best shop in the valley as far as anyone I know is concerned. This is by far the best shop in Salt Lake City, or anywhere near it. I've gotten nearly all of my work done here, Michael and Adam have killed my larger pieces, but all of their artists are extremely talented. Mina's work is beautiful in particular. I went in on a Sunday afternoon with no appointment and a pretty loose idea of the tattoo I wanted. Fortunately I have been able to snag walk-in appointments with some great artists in the past, so I have faith in the process of arriving in this fashion. My experience at Mercy was absolutely fantastic, and even exceeded my original expectations - which were high. I had heard pretty wonderful things about Mercy from a few people I trust to know things like this and had been itching for a new tattoo, so I went down to see what it was about. I walked out with a perfectly executed American traditional panther tattoo on my shoulder blade, done by Andy Canino - who isn't an artist from this shop, but an incredibly talented man from Dedication Tattoo in Denver who was in for the weekend taking appointments. I had expected to be in for a few hours, given the size of the tattoo but Andy was able to bust it out in about an hour without compromising even 1% on the quality. It was shocking when he said "you're done" and I was hesitant in the moment, but I was blown away by what he had accomplished. The shop was impeccably clean as expected, and the work I saw from the artists who do tattoo in this shop was impressive to say the least. I'll be back for more, without question. read more
