Nothing was out of scope, and whenever an issue arose, we discussed it and moved forward as a creative team. He and his assistant also tackled a handful of small household jobs that had been nagging me--replacing the floor of the kitchen sink, adjusting the door to accommodate pull-out bins, and reviving a sagging garden gate I'd been quoted $3,000 to replace. As others have noted, Brendan is communicative, helpful, and upbeat. He is highly skilled and completed everything on budget. That's practically unheard of in a remodeling project. Oh, and for women homeowners: it's refreshing to work with a contractor who treats you with friendly respect and collaboration. If you have a project in mind, reach out! We had pre-purchased special anchors and screws to install a couple of wall beds on our apt, but our parts ended up not working... =[. Brendan showed up right on time, had all the tools needed to do the job and clean up, and extra heavy duty anchors and screws ! Brendan worked quickly, efficiently, did a great job and cleaned up so it looked like he was never there. except the giant wall beds expertly installed. They took a kitchen to the studs and built a masterpiece for my wife and me. How much do we love them? We rehired them to renovate our master bathroom completely. The fact that we rehired them should tell you all that you need to know about how amazing they are. So, again, the best review is that we are using them again, and you should use them too because they are the best. What made them the best: 1) They helped us save a lot of money. They have a unique approach to ordering materials for the project. They let us know what they needed, and we ordered it directly. We ordered the new cabinets, the new doors, the new appliances, etc. By doing this, there was no additional markup on the items ordered, and it saved us a lot of money. Other contractors we met with didn't want to do this, and their quotes were at least 20 percent more than PDX Homeworks. 2) Their work. Unlike other contractors that we have had in the past. When they saw something that wasn't quite right but that we would never know about, they didn't just cover it up and move on; THEY MADE IT RIGHT. Not to mention that their work is very precise. I once watched Nick get so frustrated when he was leveling the kitchen as he tried to level everything because it was off, to me, an imperceptible amount. At least the amount was imperceptible to me, but to Nick, it wasn't perfectly level, and he continued until it met his exacting needs. 3) Helping with design. We were amazed at how painless the whole design process of our kitchen was. We gave Amanda some inspirational pictures, and she came back with a fantastic design that only required a few minor tweaks. THANK YOU, AMANDA. 4) They only work on one project at a time. It is just Nick, Amanda, and Kailash. They don't have multiple crews doing multiple jobs that they are overseeing. They were at our house every day, working and working. It was so lovely that we had consistency in seeing them every day. 5) They're very clean. Every day, they would use drop cloths on the ground to make sure they didn't get the carpets dirty. I even told them that they didn't need to do that because I was getting the carpets cleaned after they were done. They didn't listen to me and continued to use drop cloths every day. They also vacuumed and cleaned up every day. It was a very clean renovation. 6) They are just the nicest people. It was great getting to know them during the whole process of our renovation. They don't do this type of work to become huge builders with millions of dollars of work completed every year. They are just the nicest people who love remodeling, helping people out, and helping them save money where they can. Again, we can't say enough good things about them except that we used them, again, to renovate our master bathroom. We had our house painted by Samantha and her awesome paint crew this fall…read more We have a 100+ year old house with original cedar shingle siding and lead paint. I found Sunshine paintings contact info in the county's listing of lead certified contractors, since I was having trouble finding people on yelp who could safely work on an old house like ours. Samantha was very friendly and helpful during the initial consultation. She helped flags parts of the siding that were in particularly bad shape so we could strategically replace them, and also suggested was to be economical with how we painted. We got a few different bids for this project, and Sunshine PDX was one of the most competitively priced. The painting crew power washed the house and did some scraping during the prep phase. The crew primed the new siding and trim we replaced and then prepped and painted. Finally they did one final pass of touch ups that was quite meticulous! The crew was friendly and easy to communicate with. I had a few questions and noticed a few spots that were painted the wrong color, and they were totally professional and nice about fixing them. I would highly recommend Sunshine PDX!
