I found out about this place on a travel channel on YouTube. The original owner had built this…read moreplace for her love of art. She had been married several times, hence the tiny chapel. And her response for the out houses were "when ya gotta go, ya gotta go". Unfortunately, she has passed away but her legacy remains. We were greeted by Kiesha who was friendly, welcoming and informative. She explained the layout and even helped us make a purchase. We entered the art galleries and even used the outhouse. Inside, you can see everything but no one can see you. It's a really funny experience. The kids were sure amazed. We walked around the trail in the several acres. We went inside the chapel where they have a prayer jar. I don't want to give away too much because it's truly a magical and giving place that you need to experience it yourself. I highly suggest giving them a visit and consider contributing to keeping the place alive.

Decent amount of parking. - Unfortunately the two eponymous glass outhouses (see-through restrooms) were locked! I read that it's for protection and preservation, but darn, one of the things I was excited about visiting Joshua Tree my first time for was to check out the inside of the outhouse and imagine a person pretending to use it haha . Not another soul in sight. I had the whole place to myself. Enjoyed the peace and quiet.

Cheryl's friendly personality and her ability to explain and show her work without intimidating us got us to sign my wife up to go to her painting party recently. Paint and take class/party is not only FUN, you walk out with knowledge and ability to actually paint on your own and with your artwork ready to frame and hang. My wife's first painting is hanging in our cabin and came out quite nice! Looking forward to the next paint and take parties we both will be attending - "The Eagle is Landing", "Lone Wolf", "Road Home" and "The Bear" all of these parties are in coming days/weeks of winter such a nice time to be inside this sweet gallery painting. If you are looking for paintings for your fine home or your charming cabin or for memorable gifts, please go see Cheryl's beautiful work at Silver Fox Gallery you will not be dissappointed. Her work is also now shown and selling in the Village of Big Bear Lake at Artisans 2 where a variety of talented local artists work is displayed. She specializes in animals too, particularly pure bred dogs. With proper time allowed you may request your pet to be painted by Cheryl. Please don't wait as long as we did to discover this fine gallery and artist! You will enjoy meeting Cheryl Bryan the artist and seeing her work in person. You will not be disappointed!

I was under the impression that these…read morewere art, considering they were being sold at an art gallery and had their descriptions on their website. What a rude awakening when I, found these items on Amazon for $20 apiece as opposed to the $140 I was quoted and the negotiated price of $100 apiece, that I paid. The following day I returned the "art" and have a receipt for doing so however, return was never processed ... I have tried to contact them through every means necessary, the website, email ...Upon calling them they told me to call a one 800 number and hung up on me. I am absolutely gob smacked that an ART gallery would sell a mass produced trinket under the guise of art. As an artist, an art enthusiast and collector, I am more than appalled. This is a disgusting display of fraudulence, dishonesty, and frankly theft

I had found an art piece that I liked and unfortunately didn't fit in the spot I needed it to go. (the piece was never delivered) I went back several times (within a year) and just had to buy things I didn't love just to use my credit. When I got down to the last $900 (after a month shy of a year) I asked if they would just refund my $900 and they refused and got very nasty. There is much more nonsense to this post. The bottom line is there is not a lot of selection unless you're really into pop art. I will never shop here again. Lesson learned. Very bad business sense. I will also be letting my friends in Las Vegas know how I was treated. I don't yelp much but felt this needed to be shared.

His workshop and living trailer are still there, surrounded by his artwork. The grounds are unfenced, and there is a dedicated parking area on both side of the dirt ride, towards the West part of the exhibit (coming from the East, important to keep going until you see a small parking area on the south part of the road...otherwise, you will be parking on private property.) You can get up close and personal, and touch whatever you like (since it's part of how the exhibit's age). But it can also be dangerous, with many pokey and sharp things, so need to watch out while wandering. Art is a subjective thing, and I would not have guessed that I would have enjoyed his exhibit as much as I did (especiallyl the exhibits involving bowling balls and/or toilets as the main materials). But as I continued to look at his pieces, kept wondering 'What was he thinking?....How did he envision this would look 20 years after creation, as the desert enveloped?', both from an overall macro level, but also from a detailed, day-to-day accomplishment perspective. The setting of the desert is as integral as the recycled material itself. And I couldn't help but think...'is this what a end-of-the-world scenario would look like?'. And as certain parts of the exhibit degrades, will the foundation fix it...or is that the natural progression of his art? There is a handout near the entrance that tells the fascinating story of the artist's life. It's well worth reading.

You have to drive out a little, but it's located in a neighborhood with a couple houses so close by, there are signs telling you it's private property. You can spend quite some time out here, immersing yourself in the artwork. My favorite is the toilet temple. It's built out of toilets, and you can walk through the archway made out of toilets. There are multiple structures built that you can walk through and feel as though you are walking through a place that is forbidden, including a shack, complete with bed and clothes hanging on a line. The artwork spans decades. He's a prolific artist. The majority of the sculptures have cables holding them down, so you have to be careful not to trip on them accidentally when walking up close, I'd you're not paying attention. I highly recommend visiting this place. Admission is free! Parking: Plenty of free designated parking.
