I could not recommend this experience more! I signed up my boyfriend's son for a 'Daddy & Me' clay…read moreclass (ages 0-6), and it was absolutely wonderful. Gretchen let him choose what he wanted to make, then guided him through each step, resulting in an adorable Christmas tree that could also functions as a night light. The pricing is an incredible value for the time, care, and one-on-one attention provided during the class. Gretchen also did a fantastic job of asking thoughtful questions to give him the space to explore his creativity, while still offering support. It was such a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

It was a time our life was disrupted and things were very hard for my son. He loves art and we tried 29PCC in hopes it would bring him joy and it brought us so much more. We are now living much farther away but make the 1.5 hr trip back for art class when we can. Just last night my son said, "Mommy, I miss Ms. Gretchen!" And I figured it was time to leave a review! Ms. Gretchen has a beautiful way of letting him be him, fully. My son is level 1 autistic, plus very shy at times because of lack of socialization due to a rare disease that keeps him in the house a lot. But when with Ms. Gretchen, none of behaviors are challenging, none of his behaviors need to be adapted - she is so loving and accepting in a way that allows him to feel cared for amd safe. To love and care from a distance in the way that she does is such a strong quiet power and we are grateful to know and to have the opportunity to continue returning to 29 Palms Creative Center. Also, the entire place is a gorgeous adventure. I find something new and delightful to look at every time we go. Forever grateful

A Cultural Gem in the High Desert…read more Tucked between the desert sky and the creative soul of Yucca Valley, Hi-Desert Artists is the kind of place you accidentally wander into--and then spend the next hour wishing you had more wall space and a bigger art budget. I stopped in on a whim one Saturday, just planning to "browse." (Famous last words.) What I found instead was a cozy, vibrant gallery bursting with the kind of talent that can only come from locals who live and breathe the desert--every piece seemed to carry a little grit, a little magic, and a whole lot of soul. Their rotating exhibits mean no two visits are the same. One month, you might find expressive oils of stormy Joshua Trees; the next, serene watercolors of coyotes under a star-filled sky. The current show featured a mix of pottery, paintings (from abstract to impressionistic), and sculpture, and I left with a renewed appreciation for how diverse and talented our local art scene really is. But here's where things got dangerous: The gift shop. If you're someone who likes mass-produced kitsch, keep moving. But if you're into one-of-a-kind jewelry, ceramics, quirky cards, handmade ornaments, prints, bags, and a half-dozen other forms of functional art--you're going to want to bring a tote bag (and maybe a budget). What really impressed me, though, was the community energy. They offer classes and lectures for all ages and levels--from beginning bookmaking to urban sketching to printmaking workshops, and even youth classes. It's the kind of place where your kid can learn to paint while you talk to an artist who is currently hanging in the gallary. Everyone I met was welcoming, warm, and genuinely excited to talk art--whether you were buying or just appreciating. If you're a visitor, Hi-Desert Artists is an authentic peek into the creative pulse of this wild, wonderful area. If you're a local, it's a place to belong. Either way, don't miss it.
