This is such a groovy stop. If you are into unique motel experience, this stop is for you. The motel is situated on top of the hill and affords beautiful views of 29 palms. Great base camp for going into Joshua Tree. The road noise is a the only down side. Price point is great. Kitchen helps you save money eating in. This was easily my favorite inn I've ever stayed at!! The room was clean and felt like a really nice place* to stay with everything we needed: a kitchen and a working ac / heater. I also really enjoyed how colorful the room was! As a side note, one of my least favorite aspects of traveling is not having a bidet, and this was the first place I've visited that offered such a commodity. It was genuinely a nice surprise since I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere. I loved this inn and I would highly recommend for anyone to stay here. Especially as an affordable spot so close to Joshua Tree. Also, the innkeeper and housekeeper were each very nice and accommodating. Thanks to this Inn, I had my favorite vacation I have ever experienced, and I will definitely come back here whenever I get the chance to visit Joshua Tree again. read more

The room had a little dirt in a few of the corners, I couldn't get connected to their internet and the day after check in I had no hot water. I did get an immediate room change, but that room had heat that lasted only 1 minute then it went cold. I went to the office to discuss a solution, and the clerk/manager thought it better to cut me off and tell me to leave the motel. This clerk got loud and overbearing and frankly out right rude. So I went back to the room to pack and made a reservation at another place. After returning the 2nd key, I thought I had left something in the 1st room and the clerk/manager wouldn't let me go back and check. I had to 'shame' him into letting me go check. The guy had been more than friendly in my 2 previous visits but this time he was rude and uninterested in more than 2 problems. If you ask for more than 2 problems to be corrected, "you gotta go" (my analysis, not his). I didn't take photos of the dirt that was left by housekeeping because I actually liked the clerk/manager from my previous visits and the housekeeper is a very friendly and helpful lady that I enjoyed talking to. But raising his voice and not letting me get more than a word in is out right rude and totally ridiculous. I'm sure when he reads this review he will not acknowledge his rude behavior and he won't apologize. He seemed to be the type, "I'm going to do it my way and you better take it and like it", and yes I used a Bogart reference. I never was rude or insulting to this man, and I wasn't offended by him, those are his issues, not mine. But I was glad to be gone. I got another room at the closest motel at a great last minute rate and the was satisfactory. And that staff was extremely cordial and helpful. I was in university residence hall management for over 35 years, I get it things don't always work, and people want them to. But rude obnoxious behavior only relieves the aggressors stress/anxiety and alienates the intended victim. The one star rating is due to the poor attitude of that clerk/manager, the internet issues and cold water were manageable and correctable. read more

This is a fun, quirky motel that a lot of colorful paint covers its flaws. Clean and old, but a beautiful sunrise and sunset looking over the mountains. The parking lot is a bit of a challenge with sand at the entrance and bumpy paved hillside parking makes for careful riding of a motorcycle. Owner was nice and we'd stay again if passing through. I absolutely loved this place! From the bright colors to the simple cozy room atmosphere, to the affordable price, it was great. I was immediately drawn in by the colorful buildings! It seems so rare nowadays to see such bright and cheerful colors (as so many places seem to remodel in the gray/white (boring) aesthetic. The man at the front desk was lovely and my boyfriend and I enjoyed chatting with him. We also had a very nice lady come by during our stay to ask if we needed any more towels or such. There was also a TV in our room where we watched the History Channel late into the night. There was also an incredible AC unit that kept us nice and cool. There was also a heater in our room but we didn't need it, as it's hot this time of year. All in all, this motel is so quaint and wonderful! The staff is so nice and welcoming as well. Stayed for 3 nights and it was perfect! Spacious room and comfy beds. The room was very clean and very colorful, other than the two beds we also had a desk and chair and then a small table with 2 chairs. Bathroom was kind of small but was still useable. The AC wasn't the best (just a window unit) but it cooled down at nights so we were still comfortable. The shower also did not drain the best but would probably be fixed if we asked for it since they were so accommodating and helpful! Good water pressure and plenty of hot water. TV has directTV and had tons of channels, Wi-Fi as well although it wasn't the best but good cell service so not really needed. Right off the highway but was still quiet, tons of security cameras outside which helped us feel safer. Nick and the rest of the staff were wonderful and very friendly!!! Always asked if we needed anything else or would just stop and chat with us if we were sitting outside. Let us borrow a knife to cut some food we had bought and helped fix our AC immediately since our first one wasn't working at all. I think the people who leave bad reviews don't realize this isn't a hilton, for a 2 star hotel it was very nice! We paid a little over $100 a night and I think was pretty reasonable. This is a historical road side inn. Formerly the Lincoln Manor. It has definitely kept its historical integrity. The colors are a fun pop to add some character. If you are looking for a unique but simple experience and not the same blah hotel. I only stayed a night and I didn't require anything more than a bed, shower and a roof. I've stayed many times on 29 Palms, usually for Star Parties at the observatory. Needed to rest for a few hours and booked a room here. Best decision ever! The rooms are a throwback to the auto and motel era. The rooms were immaculately clean, plenty of hot water, cold air conditioning and tons of towels provided. The bed linens were bleached sparkling white and very comfortable. Cleaner then any chain hotel I've stayed in. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. If you want an experience, stay here. If you want a bland, chain hotel room stay somewhere else. This place is my new go to in 29 Palms! read more

I am so happy I found this little hotel. I was out in the area on a bit of a spiritual journey and though I only saw one review for it on priceline, I decided to trust my intuition and stay the night there. The hotel is very cute. It's easy to tell a lot of love was poured into this place. The rooms are actually separate detached small houses that have front porches with deck chairs that look out onto an amazing view. The rooms have everything a furnished studio apartment would contain: bed, bath, and small breakfast nook/eat-in kitchen with a refridgerator, microwave, and coffee pot (the coffee is quite good). My room was colorfully painted, quirky, and felt like home. But that wasn't the best part. Nick, the owner is a highly educated (he has a degree from a Harvard-equivalent university in India) and deeply spiritual man. From the moment I walked in the office our energies matched and we launched into a deep conversation about his true passion, gemology, and the science behind it, as well as Vedic astrology. It was an incredibly memorable conversation that also digressed into other spiritual subjects, such as Campbell's The Hero's Journey - which is meaningful to both of us. Nick offered to give me my Vedic horoscope the next day, and the things the charts revealed about my past were amazingly accurate down to the precise month and year. He then shared details about my future. He also shared what gemstones would work best with my energy (based on the horoscope). So why does this man with a love and gift for gemology and Vedic astrology run a hotel? Because he wants to keep his true passion pure and not be attached to any financial outcome. I know that this is a strange review to share about a hotel, but it's not just a hotel. It's a stop on a spiritual journey. At least it was for me. :) read more

It's like having your own little cabin. However, with the price of the room, it is definitely something that you can expect for the price value. Cleanliness is superb. I have a big problem with the multicolored walls. I honestly believe that if they went a more traditional route, this place would give the impression of elegance and classiness; instead, it just looked amateur. A gem of a human, truly! And the rooms were very reasonably priced. The cheapest by far of all the places we stopped. And the rooms were clean and colorful. Nothing fancy. The rates are very reasonable the rooms are very large some of the cleanest I've seen the amenities are more than any hotel actually that I've even stayed at. the kitchenettes are large they have a microwave a full coffee pot a small fridge instead of one or two packets of coffee, creamer, or sugar they literally give you a serving tray full of them. the staff was so inviting so nice and so pleasant that there is no doubt in my mind I will stay here many times to come. Was the only thing open late at night. Giant roach on the floor, unidentified bug in the fridge, smelly bathroom, sticky tile floor.

We paid $50/night. I would have thought that $30-40 was more the level of this place. Stained carpets. Bad paint job. Shower stalls cheaply constructed and falling apart, and would not drain properly. We stayed there because of the proximity to the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. I would now recommend staying in a nicer place further from the park. It's not worth saving 10 minutes driving time. read more

I am surprised that I have to write a less-than-flattering review of this place. I was so psyched when we made our reservation. I had been looking forward to it. Being that it was July 4th and expected to be in the high nineties, normally we'd prefer to stay somewhere with a pool - but since we'd sussed out where the community pools were in the area, we decided it didn't matter if the place we stayed didn't have one. Besides, we'd be arriving late at night on the 4th, and leaving well before noon on the 5th, anyway. The motel's smaller rooms were already booked, so we booked a triple online - the last type of room available - with 3 king beds, and at a higher price. I was glad to support a mom-and-pop, non-chain hotel, and from the photos online, the place looked suitably Joshua-Tree-funky: colorful, to say the least. We'd been in Big Bear until 10pm that night, and there's little-to-no cell reception there. Reception returned as we were leaving Big Bear for the desert; I was about to call the motel to let them know we were on our way, when my husband got a text from them. I didn't bother to read the text, we were too busy finding our way out of Big Bear anyway - so I just called the hotel back. The owner answered, and he said he was turning in for the night, but that he'd leave our key for us for our room. I said fine, and all seemed well when I picked up the key. But when we entered the room, we realized we'd been downgraded to a single king bed. The owner didn't mention on the phone that the room had changed. I thought it was just a random error - I didn't mind, as long as they adjusted our rate to reflect that. But that's not what happened. The next morning, when I went to the office to correct the paperwork, the owner loudly argued with me that he'd notified me via text (the one I didn't read while we were lost in Big Bear) that he'd swapped us for the smaller room since my husband and I were "just two people." AND he insisted he wouldn't correct our rate to reflect that. He insisted on charging us for the triple instead of the single he gave us! I reminded him that our reservation was a contract, that our being "two people" was irrelevant. (What happened to our triple?) I again reminded him that our reservation was a contract, that we reserved the larger room because his motel was listed online as already booked up at the lower rates/ smaller rooms - and that he couldn't just swap us for the cheaper room and still charge us the higher rate/ triple room. He continued to argue (loudly interrupting me and talking over me), so I just left the office. I figured I'd straighten it out via Priceline, the service I'd booked it through - when we got home. About 30 minutes later, the owner texted my husband (that's the only number I'd given him) - asking us to "leave peacefully", since he'd decided to refund us $1 more than the difference for the downgrade. We were packing up to check out anyway to get on the road - so no problem. Pluses: at similar prices, the room itself was cleaner than the local Motel 6, and was a seriously non-smoking room, which we liked. The TV was a big flat screen. It was also nice to have a mini-kitchen situation: mini-fridge, microwave and coffeemaker, with coffee. Basics: The air conditioner was less than 100%, so the air wasn't crisply cold - but it was adequate. Also, the curtains were too long, and hung over the AC, so we had to jerry-rig them out of the way of the cold air. Minuses: a weird, tripping step in the bathroom (followed by a downhill slope) made the bathroom an interesting experience. Back in the main room, the TV mount was coming off the wall - one of two bolts was missing. We were careful not to move it. I would have second thoughts about reserving there again - I've never had a room swapped out from under me, not to mention: followed by the owner's very unprofessional argument (?!), refusing to refund the difference for his sudden, capricious downgrade. It surprised and shocked me, and put a serious nick in an otherwise really fun holiday weekend. Since then, I found a review over on Trip Advisor, posted by a man who had a similar experience - his reservation also got pulled out from under him and given to someone else. This is the worst motel I've ever had the misfortune of walking in to. I booked through hotel.com and paid in advance. Oh my gosh was that a mistake. It is an inexpensive place and I only had to stay one night so I was o not having normal amenities for such a short stay... My visit started by pulling in to the parking lot of this dilapidated motel. I walked into the "lobby" which is filthy, falling down and has the feel that it belongs in a horror movie. The guy behind the counter was nice but a little unsettling. Then he makes a few comments about how nice my engagement ring is. Which sounds nice enough unless you heard the way he said it. I thought oh well the room will have a lock from the inside so I shouldn't worry too much about the guy breaking in and stealing my stuff. I get the key, walk into the room and am met with a room that is a nightmare. The bathroom floor tile doesn't have grout, the shower tile hasn't been finished, there are horribly patches holes in the wall where I don't even want to know what happened, and the walls bow out from what I can only imagine is from the vast amount of mild pushing on it. So I start thinking well if I just sleep on top of the bedding with my own blanket and pillow I'll be fine... I sit on the bed and turn to see a black curly hair... that was the last straw. read more

Unique, fun place to stay in Twentynine Palms but probably not for everyone. My wife and I were passing through on a long road trip and wanted to spent some time in the area. I found this place online as a good pet-friendly option with solid reviews (better on tripadvisor than Yelp it turns out). I booked two nights at the very reasonable rate of $59/night. Our room was actually a small building in and of itself. It had a strong bleach-type odor when we walked in but nothing that didn't work itself out with an hour of open windows. The place isn't fancy - my wife and I were commenting on how much our mothers would hate it - but it's great for what it is. The bathroom was tiny but functional. There was also a small, separate "kitchen" with a microwave and small fridge with an actual freezer. The bed wasn't new but was comfortable enough and the place was clean. Biggest annoyance was the curtains - they didn't open easily so I would up removing the whole curtain rod to let the sun it. Sounds like the owner/operator continues to make improvements and I'll definitely stay here again if I make it back to this area. read more

What a experience Cheap motel Decently comfortable. Clean enough. Shower stall was so small that it was uncomfortable. I can't imagine how overweight people can even step in it. The rooms are not plan rooms, they are colorful cabins and they have a small kitchenette and a really tight bathroom. Only one we had and that was the bed, it collapsed in the middle because they didn't have the right frame. If they fix that problem I would definitely would come again. read more

(Keep in mind I'm a 19 year old girl traveling alone) I came to 29 to visit my boyfriend, & saw decent reviews for this place so I thought I'd give it a chance. Looking back those reviews must be fake. The manager was nice when I was getting a room, but when I got to my room it felt dirty. It smelled like old microwaved food, Cards with masking tape on the walls, flies buzzing around, & other bugs & the bathroom did not look like it had been disinfected. With the current conditions I'm very careful with what I expose myself to & I did not feel comfortable in this hotel, I went up to the front desk not even 5 minutes after going to the room & asked if I could get a refund because I wasn't comfortable staying at the hotel. I told him that I'm being careful due to the covid 19 & don't want to stay in a room that isn't thoroughly clean. He gave me a hard time about it, I didn't know what to say other than I don't feel comfortable staying there & he continued to drill me with questions, but I handed him the key, wrote down my complaint and left. After I got to a different hotel( the Rancho Delores in is only $20 more than this dump & it's very clean) , I got a call from the hotel saying that the housekeeper for the room wanted to speak to me. She told me that the shower and sink was wet, and towels were dirty, insisting that I had taken a shower there before leaving she said that she was watching me from the parking lot (SO SCARY) and said i was in there for a while but i was to disgusted to even touch anything.. She was rude about it and talked to me like I was lying. The manager told me I'd be getting a refund but honestly, not getting my hopes up & this place is definitely not worth the price. A place like this should be nothing more than $30 a night. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

This property need some serious work the owners need to upgrade the plumbing the electricity and the asphalt I will post some pictures on but you have to look at them quite carefully to see some of the issues. Rooms 17 18 and 19 have a lovely View and a patio to sit on and that was probably my favorite thing sitting on the front porch looking at Joshua Tree Valley. It's quite close to the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park maybe a mile or so away and across the street are some fast food choices. The room was clean the bed was comfortable and the shower was adequate. The air conditioner worked well and our room 18 has a little kitchenette that was nice. The property was built in the 40s the asphalt on the uphill driveway is quite messed up with a little TLC this place could be nice while we were staying here there was a minor plumbing issue and the electrician was supposed to come to fix something it didn't really affect us although we had no water for 1 hour managers on site are quite nice a very friendly a young lady and a nice older gentleman. The problem seems to be with the owners not wanting to invest or maybe not able to invest the money it would take to make this property really sweet. The price was right under $60 and I was able to bring my dog with plenty of areas for her to roam with a $25 non-refundable cleaning fee. Would I stay here again, only if the other options were too expensive or unavailable. read more

My significant other and I drove toward Joshua Tree looking for a cheap hotel for the evening before heading into the park the next day. We passed a number of cheap chain motels before popping over the hill to the 9 Palms Inn. We loved the classic sign and colorful little porches. We were pleased by the price, it was 71$ for the night and the owner was really friendly. It was a huge surprise when we walked into our room and found three queen beds and separate kitchenette area. The tile floor was so clean that we were sitting on the floor enjoying our coffee in the morning. We left the door wide open to let the sun in and ended up chatting with some of the employees about the motels history before checking out. This is a very quaint motel with a Route 66 vibe. The guy that owns it was very nice as was his housekeeper. The room was nice and it was spotless. We had a small dog with us and they do charge an extra $25 for them. They was a power outage the evening we stayed (which was widespread in the town) and the night workers brought us a lantern and kept us informed of what was going on. My wife and I just stayed here nicely located to Joshua Tree. The owner is very friendly and you can tell he is working hard to clean Up the place. Don't get me wrong it is very nice and clean. I can just tell that He has a passion for improving in any way he can and genuinely cares for His guests and there happiness while they are there. Rooms colorful and And enjoyed sitting on porch with a glass of wine looking out over the desert. If your a picky 5 star type person this may not be for you but for enjoy clean And quirky reasonably priced place you really will enjoy this.
