Kris, Bill, Angel, and Randy helped us with a very, VERY poorly done job by another construction company. In 8 days, this other company had done an immense amount of demo/damage with no actual plan for rebuild. Ramos took on the job despite being busy and having no prior example of what the structure looked like. They have been so great. They contacted the original architect from the 70s to make sure the rebuild was in spec with his work. They worked with the City on what they taken on (no permits, no plans, incorrect work) and how to move forward. They met with us and a third party structural engineer consult when we wanted to see if we could make a claim against the other construction company. They have always been available, friendly, done clean, expert work and respected our small time/picky requests. When we move to our next project, we will absolutely work with Ramos. Remodeling a kitchen is a pretty major under taking, and was quite an investment for us, so we…read morewanted to go with someone we felt confident with, and after our first meeting with Jerry and Issac, (a meeting totally set around our schedule, btw) we felt like a team. Often, with contractors, after everything is signed you never see the owners again. Not the case with PPB, the owners, and project manager were there everyday, checking in, and documenting the progress. Speaking of progress, our full-kitchen remodel was finished 4 weeks ahead of schedule, and included many cool features and ideas they included in the design. PPB also greatly minimized the pain-in the butt that goes with having major construction done about ten feet from your bedroom. They sectioned off the entire work area with double sided tarp, and had lock box, so we had a lot of privacy and relatively little dust through out the job, (and left the place every night way cleaner than it was before we hired them). This kind of endeavor is never easy, there's always problems, and they handled all of them with ease and grace. (At least on our end) In fact for us, that's one of the best qualities about PPB is that they soak up all the headaches involved in a project of this scope; permits, inspections, a multitude of (borderline unreasonable) requests from their clients, all taken care of with a "no problem" attitude. And our kitchen looks better than we ever imagined. Highly recommend.

I don't know much about construction but we had people stopping in the street to ask who was building for us and to let us know EcoCraft was using the highest quality materials and they noticed the building team worked together really well. All I know is we made a lot of friends on the crew, one of the builders got married in our space after he helped create it, we love Eddie Hooker for life, they did a similar addition for our neighbors and we're trying to find other projects to build so we can have them around more. I am a new mom and was thinking having a design/build firm would be perfect since this project would be down to studs. Then I would not have to act as the general contractor. I did some research and seen the Craftsman Design and Renovation van around the neighborhood. I called and the office person was wonderful and she said the owner would call me back to discuss next steps. Well today I talked to the owner and outlined my process so far. I had mentioned I started my search at Home Depot and had an idea of cabinets and countertops. He said he was a design build firm and people come to them to design, this was said in what I felt was a dismissive tone. The conversations started to take a turn. I said "don't customers have an idea of colors?". He then went to tell me that his company does remodels in the ballpark of 50K. He never asked me the size of my home or my budget. I guess my money is not good enough. I can only imagine the communication on a project if this is how the first impression went. UPDATE: the owner of Craftsman Design and Build got wind of this post and called to make this right. He did sincerely apologize. He called because he wanted this post down/revised. I understand that a bad review here can be hurtful to a business. I use reviews here to learn and choose where to spend my $. I am updating my rating a smidge because he did reach out to me. Other repair companies told me it never should have been done that way to grout the corners. Everything has cracked and separated. All the original work ran late and so much had to be corrected. They took a kitchen to the studs and built a masterpiece for my wife and me. How much do we love them? We rehired them to renovate our master bathroom completely. The fact that we rehired them should tell you all that you need to know about how amazing they are. So, again, the best review is that we are using them again, and you should use them too because they are the best. What made them the best: 1) They helped us save a lot of money. They have a unique approach to ordering materials for the project. They let us know what they needed, and we ordered it directly. We ordered the new cabinets, the new doors, the new appliances, etc. By doing this, there was no additional markup on the items ordered, and it saved us a lot of money. Other contractors we met with didn't want to do this, and their quotes were at least 20 percent more than PDX Homeworks. 2) Their work. Unlike other contractors that we have had in the past. When they saw something that wasn't quite right but that we would never know about, they didn't just cover it up and move on; THEY MADE IT RIGHT. Not to mention that their work is very precise. I once watched Nick get so frustrated when he was leveling the kitchen as he tried to level everything because it was off, to me, an imperceptible amount. At least the amount was imperceptible to me, but to Nick, it wasn't perfectly level, and he continued until it met his exacting needs. 3) Helping with design. We were amazed at how painless the whole design process of our kitchen was. We gave Amanda some inspirational pictures, and she came back with a fantastic design that only required a few minor tweaks. THANK YOU, AMANDA. 4) They only work on one project at a time. It is just Nick, Amanda, and Kailash. They don't have multiple crews doing multiple jobs that they are overseeing. They were at our house every day, working and working. It was so lovely that we had consistency in seeing them every day. 5) They're very clean. Every day, they would use drop cloths on the ground to make sure they didn't get the carpets dirty. I even told them that they didn't need to do that because I was getting the carpets cleaned after they were done. They didn't listen to me and continued to use drop cloths every day. They also vacuumed and cleaned up every day. It was a very clean renovation. 6) They are just the nicest people. It was great getting to know them during the whole process of our renovation. They don't do this type of work to become huge builders with millions of dollars of work completed every year. They are just the nicest people who love remodeling, helping people out, and helping them save money where they can. Again, we can't say enough good things about them except that we used them, again, to renovate our master bathroom. If you need a contractor, unequivocally, I can say that you don't need to look any further because you have found the best contractors in Portland and possibly the world. USE THEM!!!!!!
