They have good prices and decent selection on games if something doesn't work you can return it and the workers tend to be pretty nice to unaffected by you they are good for value and generally have better prices than what you can find read more

I went in to buy a series that I had been looking at for a while. I grabbed them all and went to the checkout. The associate rang everything up. This is when things went south. They were selling messed up books as brand new and above retail. The associate told me that he could not change the price, he didn't make them. Then when asked about the quality, I was informed that people couldn't keep their hands off of things. I will not be going back to this store ever. read more

This is the "Half price books' of Beaumont so you know what to expect. What to know before you walk into here is if you plan on buying a lot of items......bring a bag or something because they are "green" and do not provide you plastic bags for your purchases. The personnel here all have always been friendly and helpful the 5 visits that I've frequented here. If you can see the main entrance of Parkdale Mall then you will see it a little over on the left hand side at a quick glance. The clearance section isn't really that much of a clearance section like at Half Price Books or their equal. At least for the cd's instead of a $1 or $2 they are maybe $3 or $4 but that should not deter you from getting what you want if you see it since buying a new cd is still about 3 times that cost. There are lots of other interesting items here as well that you won't find at a used Book/Music store, you just have to make the trip to see what I mean. read more

First time visiting any 2nd and Charles. This one on Beaumont Texas was nice. All of the reviews said that the staff was inappropriate but they were very professional while I was there. Very unorganized store however. I went in and asked where their horror section was and they said that all of their horror books were located in the front of the store. However I spent two hours browsing and came across so many horror paperbacks scattered around in different sections. Only walked out with three books but I only spent four dollars and walked out with three vintage paperbacks from Hell. Not the best store for vintage paper bags but not really a bust either. 09-01-2022: Very unorganized. No defined horror section and to be honest they really don't have any horror books in the store. I've found a few good titles mixed in with the general fiction or sci-fi sections but for me there's just not a very good selection of books here. 3 stars. UPDATE: I went in on 09-26-2022 at 7:50, ten minutes before closing but still time to MAYBE make a trade in...figured I'd try/ask. The guy that was doing the trade ins was rude as all get out saying "We are closed." and tried to avoid me by walking off. I asked the guy if he'd please take a look at my book for me. I work 6 days a week and never have any time to stop in. The book was a Paperback from Hell novel (worth some money). I paid $15 for the book in readable condition. The guy said, without looking at the novel, he could give me $1. I told him it was a worth $10 used any day of the week. He then said he could go to $2...I laughed and walked out. Posted it on Mercari at 9:00pm by 10pm had it sold for $10. Only took so little because of its lower level acceptable condition. So these people have no idea what they are dealing with. I have been a loyal and frequent customer at the 2nd n Chas in Beaumont store for years ever since they changed from Books-A-Million. I had no problem selling or even making purchaces from them, till lately I ran into a problem the manager told me I couldn't sell anything to them anymore! It started when I brought some records in to sell/trade like I have done many times in the past but this time they said they would no longer take anything from me to sell. I don't know the exact reason or meaning as I didn't get a clear or consise answer from Whitney the store manager. If I could give this place a 0 star rating I would. The baristas are rude and, and their coffee isn't great at all. I was traveling to TX had to stop in for coffee and I requested a Veterans discount and they started spewing ugly politics that had nothing to do with coffee. Every time we come here, we spend an hour looking through all that they have to offer, head to the register with our arms full of books and movies, and are immediately told that the pricing is wrong. The store is constantly in disarray, the signage is either incorrect or misleading, the employees are unhelpful at best and rude/disrespectful on a consistent basis. This past visit, we found two books on a cart labeled "buy one, get one free" and upon checking out, we're told the price was the sum of both books. Then, we tell the cashier about the cart, he calls his manager, and instead of actually looking into it, he says "it's only buy one get one free if you get it off the cart" in a remarkably snarky tone. Obviously, right?? so i said "yeah, that's what i just said. we got it off of the CART that's labeled BOGO free." and he says "sorry, these aren't on that cart" and i assured him that there were multiple copies on that cart of both books. So, he proceeds to say "i don't know what to tell you" and doesn't do anything further. we decided to not buy our books, as he was an outright disrespectful, unhelpful jerk about it. so, from now on, i'll order my books from thriftbooks.com where it's cheaper and you don't have to deal with immature, careless employees you should too. read more

I'll pass thank you! Its over priced for items that you can find at normal retail at other places or online. I'm a gamer both PC/Console and pen and paper and it burns me up when I see a older game that was never super cool or trendy being sold for more than original cover price just because its about ten years old or so. Plus the staff appears to be worried about if they look cool instead of helping you! We have stopped in here twice thinking to give it another try and walking out thinking why did we bother. Now that being said if you dont mind being over charged and ignored by the teeny booper behind the counter and you want that book / dvd/ pc game or toy that you can probaly find on Amazon or eBay for half the price then by all means spend your money here. I LOVE this store and have visited multiple times, to both buy and sell. But today they took over an hour and a half to process about 15 books I had brought in to sell. There was only one order ahead of me. The clerk working on my order seemed to have just walked away and left my order half processed, so dozens of orders came and left while I was waiting. Normally, I've only had to wait about 15 minutes (I had sold things just days before.) And in a store with no chairs on a Thursday afternoon when I was busy, I was very disappointed. read more

I want to make it clear that I normally love coming in this store, although I have had experiences with the staff being confusing or unprofessional before, they've generally been very nice and funny while they help us out. Yesterday, however, was an exception and I only think it fair for me to express my dissatisfaction here. I always come in to browse whenever I do come in, never with any particular item in mind, but open to surprises. I had remembered the last time I came in a couple weeks ago, this store carried a board game that looked really fun and right up my alley, but I didn't have the money for it at the time. I remembered seeing it, but I couldn't for the life of me recall its name. This is when I was going to ask the staff for their help, just in case anybody had any idea what the name could've been so I could find it online or something. (I know this is a strange request, believe me, but it holds little bearing for how the staff treated the issue) I approached the desk on the left side of the store to see if anyone was available, only to realize that the staff was running around the store, playing some form of game whilst screaming like teenagers. And it wasn't just a few of them, seemingly every. single. one. was running around, completely unaware of the customers around them. I ended up changing my mind about asking for help at the time and kept looking for more items. Over the next 10 minutes, the store was overwhelmed by boisterous laughter, mishandling of the plush items that were previously on display, and a complete lack of regard for anybody's shopping experience due to the behavior of the staff. I tried once again to politely get an employee's attention as we left, but to no avail. After all this, probably like 3 hours later we came back. Thankfully, the employees seemed to have settled down and were in their respective positions. I managed to flag one of them down to ask my question to them, and they thought about it for approximately 2 seconds before telling me they didn't remember anything like that. Which, fair enough, but another employee came up and asked me to repeat my question, and I did, and he does the same thing; disregards it after 2 seconds of thought, and then immediately sparks up a conversation with the other employee- effectively cutting me off from inquiring further and ending my question quite rudely and abruptly with their childish nonsense once again. They have a so-so selection of new vinyl records. That's a plus. The problems are that they sell filthy and broken video games and consoles, don't remove huge neon price stickers that are cheaper than what they actually charge, and they overcharge astronomically for seemingly random items. I bought 3 game cartridges and a console from them. They had strategically placed the price stickers over black marker kid-names on the games. No big deal. The cartridges were crusty, gross, and I would have to clean them with alcohol anyway. The problem was that they claim to test everything first and there's just no way. The pins on some of these were green and corroded or had completely rotted away. I paid $40 for one of these. None of them worked AT ALL on a refurbished NES. All my own games worked fine. The console I bought had a faulty RF cable. So faulty that the screen was mostly static and when I moved the cable around, it just got worse. $50 for a broken console is not OK. Upon returning them all a couple of hours later I was given the third degree by a manager about whether or not I knew anything about vintage games and how to clean and test them. I do. Clearly they do not. He even lied to me that they had tested everything recently and it all worked fine. There's no way. Double Dragon is never gonna fire up with missing and rotted pins, you know? A few of my co-workers have had the exact same issue with games from them. Also, you may see things with enormous neon price stickers on them. Disregard those. You will actually be paying more. Those are the stickers the employees are too lazy to remove from the stuff they take in. A friend bought a bunch of books with huge $1.00 stickers on the covers. They charged between $3-$10 each. She didn't even leave the counter with the books and they wouldn't take them back. So she took pictures of them to post on Facebook. They told her to stop photographing her books or they would call security. Absurd and shady. Avoid at all costs. read more
