great convenient course greens are always in good condition. Staff usually great in pro shop even when they're getting slammed. some complain about price but u really can't beat it. Buy a same rate pass and ur fine. People complain with country club expectations but putt putt pockets. the only thing I would say is wish it had even more practice facility but the chipping holes were a great addition hope they add some sand to it. read more

They don't care about their customers. Checked the website then called for a tee-time. Got there and went to pay via credit card and was told of their like 6% CC fee. Regular rate with cash. Was not disclosed until I got there. Then was told "you don't have to play here if you don't want to". I was shocked. They offered their ATM machine, but that has a fee also. Haven't been back since. I'm not upset about the fee... only that it was not disclosed. I ALWAYS pay cash if there is a Cc fee. It's a matter of principle. I sent an email about the situation, but it was ignored. Not a bad golf course in Pittsburgh of your public options but our experience here was bad. $35 per golfer for 9 holes of golf and we got in 4 holes when it started to thunderstorm we were told by the starter that 4 holes was past there limit for a rain check. So check the weather and pray there's no pop up storms after you finish less than 50% of holes if you want your money back. Definitely not a good way to get people to comeback.... read more

This place has the golf attitude that no one needs. Over priced in every direction and honestly every employee I met so far just sucks. I wish I could put zero start for their customer service and how they speak to people over the phone. I didnt know "oops, oh well" was an answer to a simple question. Also they over pack the course and just expect you to take it so don't think your getting a round in in a normal amount of time. Also you don't have an option if you don't have four golfers in your group they will make you golf with someone that could literally ruin your one day a week you get to golf. Find another course. I belonged to Alcoma for quite a few years before turning public. I. I played Three Lakes 7-26-23 and it was in remarkably good condition. The greens were fast and true and the rest of the course was very green even though it has been a dry summer. Great value. read more

Perhaps the most overrated, overpriced sack of garbage around. You might have to take out a mortgage just for a 6 pack of domestics. Also $4 for a 8 oz of Keurig coffee is fun. Clubhouse acts as if the US Open will be there in the next few years, as if they're not located directly in the ghetto of Penn Hills. The course was really nice when it was private, but then it opened to the public. It is still nice and maintained pretty well. A couple holes seem to have been under construction for going on two seasons. I can't wait until they button those up. The cart paths are as expected for a public course. Sometimes the grass is the smoother option. Aside from that, I live nearby and the good outweighs the bad. It is a challenging course and no two rounds are the same at three Lakes. read more

I thought this was a pretty nice public course in Penn Hills. Paid $25 for 9 holes yesterday, we did the back 9. Includes a cart. The course itself is pretty spread out compared to other places I've been so you don't necessarily feel like you're on top of a bunch of other groups. That being said, it was still pretty crowded on a Saturday afternoon so our group of 4 had to let multiple pairs play through. It is extremely hilly, nearly every hole has some significant sloping. I though the tee boxes, fairways and greens were all pretty well maintained though many of the bunkers were in terrible condition, a few were completely full of water. After not playing 3 Lakes for a few years because they charged my credit card for booking a foursome and only showing up with 3 because one of my friends couldn't make it, I needed to make a last minute tee time and, knowing that the building was going to be razed, thought maybe their attitude had changed and made a tee time for 2 on Sunday, Oct. 7 2023. I even called to make the tee time because I didn't want any trouble. I told them 2 players. The woman on the phone guaranteed me no problems. Bad idea, nothing but trouble, I've never seen anyone as rude as the starter that day. He had issues from the word GO. I got there 35 minutes before my tee time because I wanted to pay for my guest and the old caddy shack is now the lounge, about 300 feet from the pro shop. I paid and the girls in the pro shop told me to take the receipt to the starter and get a cart. The fun begins. This miserable man (starter) started immediately. "Why are you here so early?". Hands me the sign out sheet, hadn't given me a cart yet. I wrote my name and phone #. He hands it back to me saying I didn't write the cart # down. He hadn't given me a cart yet, says right there #23 as if I was to read his mind. He can't write the cart # down? My playing partner shows up, we get drinks and head to the first tee. We wait for a group to tene yellie off when I hear someone yelling. I look back toward the clubhouse and it'd Mr Starter yelling "back 9!, back 9!". I asked why and yelled "I got a golf course to run!". So, we go to 10 tee, wait for a group to tee off and get out of the way as a foursome comes to 10 tee as well. We play 10 , go to 11, a par three where the 2some in front of us is just putting out. (One of the 2 in front of us is obviously not very experienced ). All of the sudden a different guy pulls up in a cart and tells us the starter said we have to join the group in front of us because the 4 some behind us is concerned about pace of play. I tee my ball up, thinking we'll play the par 3 and then catch up and join the group in front of us when we catch them. The jerk says "when did I say play this hole? You're joining them now". Done arguing, I skip to 12 and we play in. No faster, probably slower, The group behind us said they never said a word about any concern. I took my cart back and asked the teenage kid putting carts away if anyone in charge was still there. He said they all went home. I asked about the starter and the kid apologized and said "he can be like that". I duked the kid 5 bucks and left. NEVER AGAIN WILL I PLAY THIS COURSE !!! I played it as a kid when it was Alcoma CC. Too bad because I like the course. The girls in the lounge are nice but the starter, "pro" must think it's Bethpage Black. Flat out rude. NEVER AGAIN. When they raze the old dining room and lounge they should just keep going and bulldoze the whole place. read more

Great price for 9 holes and if you are willing to walk even better! Well maintained course that plays pretty easy for those trying to get back into the swing of it (pun intended). Hills make it more challenging that it otherwise would be but, I've had a tone of fun out here the last couple of months. Great first 9 holes... Hole#10.. Fairway Sprinklers came on when we got to the green.. No problem.. 11th hole, we drive, sprinklers came on in the fairway.. Happy i sliced..lol.. 12th hole sprinklers on the fairway come on as we take our second shot... Little irritated.. But fine.. 13th same thing.. Was playing great till this.. 14 we drive sprinklers came on as soon as we get ready to hit.. Very annoyed at this point.. Hole 15 .. Drive hit the fairway got to take second shot, sprinklers pop up 2ft from me now I'm soaked, shoes, shorts shirt...carts soaked, and sprinkler hits my buddy in the cart in the face... Now I'm beyond mad.. Go to the office complained and got an attitude.. Spent $84 for 2 to play 18 holes. And got soaked on a sunny day.. Warning would have been sufficient. But no.. They said well the course has to be watered.. I get that.. A little heads up would have been nice.. Should have went with my instincts and went to rolling fields.. At least staff gives a damn about they're customers... read more

Nice little affordable public tract with a lot of up and down holes tracing the hilly terrain. Like a lot of public places, the bunkers need work. There are a number of blind shots so drive your cart up for a looksee if it's your first go round. Prices in the bar/restaurant are also decent, and we had a pretty good lunch washed down by two $7 pitchers of Yeungling. Not at all busy on the day we played, which is good if you're playing but bad if you're the owner/operator. read more

Greens are in great shape however almost every trap had 6 inches of standing water. Fairways were well groomed however everything outside the fairway is falling apart, from Cart paths to tee boxes some work could be done. read more

The course and Staff are just great! Course is always affordable and fun to play with great greens! The Owner Art Hawk on the other hand is not a good person. I have played this course a few times before and was always somewhat happy. Yesterday I had a tee time with 2 of my friends that have never played there and I assured them that the $44 green fee would be worth it. Well I was made out to be a total liar. When we went in to sign in I asked how the greens were and the answer was "great, they mowed them and rolled them this morning and should be rolling fast". The greens were in the in the worst shape that I have ever seen any course. The fairways and tee boxes were absolutely terrible. Standing water in most sand traps. The only traps that were even maintained with a sandpro were the ones closest to the clubhouse. How convenient. As we finished #2 we almost went in to get our money back and go elsewhere but we continued on and by the time we were done with 9 it was now just a joke. When we did stop at the turn to get a dog and beer, well that's another story. Inflated prices for 3 dogs and 1 six pack $26. "the hot Dogs are Jumbo" is what we were told. After our round we went into the pro shop and told another employee about our disappointment and he just told us that we would have to talk to management. He did give us each a 9 hole raincheck which we will probably never use. He agreed that the course is in the worst shape that it has been in over 5 years. I myself spent 17 years in the golf course industry as the head technician in charge of all equipment and have worked for private and public courses. I know that it was a very hot summer and that diseases can destroy a course very quickly. My problem is that I paid $44 dollars apiece expecting better conditions based on what we were told at the pro shop. If you are honest with people about things that you can't control like the summer we just went through and lower your prices I think you would be better off in keeping golfers coming back. And for the things that you CAN take care of like the sand traps, maintain them so that they look halfway decent and aren't a breeding ground for the mosquitoes. As for ever coming back, both of my friends handed their rainchecks to me and said "do what you want, we will never be back". Very Disappointed. read more

We were very disappointed in the condition of this course. One hole, #5, seemed unsafe to navigate on a golf cart. Dry, lots of bare spots; just not well maintained. The location of the women's tees is almost insulting - there is such a huge advantage. The carts weren't in great shape either. Thought it was priced high and not nearly as well maintained as other public courses in the area (example Grandview). Probably will not go back. read more

This review is in regards to Event Spaces.....Recently had a baby shower here. The venue itself was beautiful, Service attending to tables etc were good. BUT. For our shower we planned a brunch. I was pretty excited because I've always wanted to have a brunch for an occasion. Food was good but rationed. The food prepared was not enough. The portions were beyond small. No one could have more than a tablespoon of anything offered and had to pick either bacon or sausage they were not allowed both! Really! They also said they could only have one helping of everything until they served all the tables. The sterno's were half filled. From being super excited for this brunch I was left mortified that people were only aloud a bite of food for each food offered. Worst experience ever regarding food that I have ever experienced. That should be a number one priority serving the public. I live locally, and this was an opportunity to bring business to this facility. That said ....they blew it ! I don't think anyone would go back or recommend them. All in all my guests made my daughters day but because of this (food)... the one thing I could offer my guests and expected to give them ... I feel we failed to give them a great experience back. Very disappointed. read more
