I was going through a bad time in my life, custody battles over my child and other issues. Anyway, she offered me a shamanic reading and invited me into her house. I can't remember much about that initial reading, but she offered to take me on a Spiritual journey. We agreed I would come back in a couple of days at the appointed time. When I arrived, she told me she could not take me on this journey because her guides had told her I was sick. She was being very strange and very dramatic. Then she proceeded to tell she thought I was going to kill myself. I was pretty shocked and dumbfounded. So she brings out her pendulum and starts swinging and nods her head and says " Yup, they say you're going to do it". And she said good luck and ushered me to the door. I immediately went to Mama Bessie in Charlotte and told her exactly what had happened. She appeared angry and told me that wasn't right, don't listen to her. My Reiki teacher at the time put me in connection with a friend of hers who is an amazing medium. I told her what had transpired and gave her this woman's name, and she said "Yes, that's who I thought this would be. I've already fixed several of her messes". Again, I cannot stress enough the fact that this woman is dangerous. I don't know whether she is black magic or not, but if not then she has some major issues and should not be doing this type of work. It may very well be that what she perceives are her spirit guides may actually be something else and are using her as their pawn. In any case, PLEASE STAY AWAY from her. I was in a deep depression at this time 7 years ago, and what she said to me Could have potentially pushed me to the point of taking my own life. I suspect that may have been her intention. It took a lot of work to get over this psychologically.

I searched Yelp for watch repair and discovered Bailey's Fine Jewelry on Providence Road, just a few miles from Uptown. What a wonderful discovery. From the moment I walked in, this felt different from your typical jewelry store. Bailey's is a beautiful, spacious, family-owned jeweler, but what impressed me most was how welcoming and comfortable the experience felt. Bailey's has been locally owned in North Carolina since 1948, and the Charlotte location carries on the legacy of longtime Charlotte jeweler Morrison Smith. I was greeted immediately and escorted to the watch counter. The associate taking care of me offered coffee, tea, a soft drink or sparkling water while I waited. I chose sparkling water and was handed a glass bottle of Perrier tucked into a black Bailey's koozie. Now that is a nice touch. While they worked on my watch, I wandered around. The store is gorgeous and much larger than I expected, with fine jewelry alongside beautiful gifts, frames, crystal, jewelry boxes and other pieces. I also appreciated being able to browse without feeling followed or pressured. The clientele was equally welcoming and refreshingly diverse--different ages, backgrounds and styles. Nobody needed to look a certain way to belong there. For a high-end jewelry store, I found that especially refreshing. You can also see into the watchmaking/work area through glass, which I loved. Everything looked immaculate and organized, and being able to see the professionals at work added a sense of transparency. Eventually I settled into one of the big club chairs by the windows with my Perrier and a jewelry magazine. A gentleman brought my finished watch directly to me on a little velvet tray. Such an elegant touch for something as simple as replacing a battery. Then came the biggest surprise. I walked over to pay, and the associate told me there was no charge for the battery replacement. Instead, Bailey's asks customers to make a donation to a local charity. How fantastic is that? I later looked it up because I wanted to understand the program. Bailey's calls it "A Time to Give." Rather than charging customers for watch-battery replacement, Bailey's absorbs most of the cost and asks for a charitable donation instead. Each store selects organizations to support, and Bailey's says the program has now donated more than $1 million to the communities it serves. I happily donated $20. As I was leaving, I tried to return the Bailey's koozie and just take my Perrier. Nope. She told me to keep the koozie, too. From a customer-service and branding perspective, somebody at Bailey's understands hospitality. That little black Bailey's koozie is coming home with me, and every time I use it, I'll remember this experience. That's how you create a customer--and perhaps an accidental brand ambassador. My only caution is parking. The Charlotte store is directly on Providence Road, and the front parking area is tight. Pulling back into fast-moving traffic requires patience, so take your time. I'm going to investigate whether there's another parking option for my next visit. And there will be a next visit. I went to Bailey's Fine Jewelry because I needed a watch battery. I left wanting to come back and explore the store. That says a lot. So if your watch has stopped ticking, don't automatically head to the mall. Bailey's offers watch-battery replacement, and that simple errand supports something much bigger in the community. Life is too short not to sleep well, eat well, travel well--and now I'm adding shop well. Bailey's Fine Jewelry, you've officially made the list.

I have a very basic / cheap Timex watch and other places had quoted $15, $20 and even more for a battery replacement......cheaper to get a new watch. I wasn't sure of the name of it or the location but I follow one of the members on IG so I hopped in the DMs and asked for some information. I received a fast response so here I am at the Cigar Shop! It's pretty small. I walked in and was some disappointed because I didn't see a lounge area. I went inside the shop and searched until I found a sweet cigar of my liking. A gentleman asked if I needed help but I said no thank you as I was feeling like a big girl and capable of finding my own cigar for the first time. I asked the gentleman at the cashier about a lounge and he advised that it was for members only. Holding my breath I asked how much is the membership - as I've had an eventual weekend and the budget won't allow for much more of lavishness. I was super relieved when he said it's free. My next question was do you sale alcohol. He said no but it's a "red cup" policy. Yay say less- I'm in here! I have visited several cigar shops around the Charlotte Metro and honestly this one is simple and fun. No expensive memberships, drinks just a classic time enjoying a cigar and the "red cup" policy. I plan on making my way back often. I felt comfortable being the only woman in here because the men were respectful.
