The lack of service mentioned in another review probably has to do with the fact that it is run by volunteers. It is also generally a VERY slow place to work (I have talked with the people in there a lot) and when you get literally a costumer every three hours I can see why they may get caught up in a personal conversation..... sometimes it is other regulars (customers) who have sat down to chat as I would guess was the situation Marie was talking about because they never have more than two people on at a time as that would be ridiculous in the small slow store. If not being greeted ruins a shop for you so completely than I would say maybe you have the problem...........As a shop girl myself else where I know about 75% of the time I greet people they either IGNORE me completely or act like I am the most annoying person on earth. Its happening less because I can read people better. I can usually tell the ones that want to be greeted helped from the leave me alone types.

Its an interesting mix of women's, men's and kid's clothing, both household goods and collectibles, along with some small gadgets and electronics, and the usually books and music. We spent about an hour roaming through this shop and found several items along with some limited and out of print edition books. Prices are very reasonable to down right cheap by most thrift shop standards and we found that the items we scored where well worth the few dollars spent. This little store is volunteer staffed and runs short monday through friday hours (9 am to 4 pm daily), closed on the weekends. I also appreciate that they have a fully stocked bathroom with a changing table, all sizes of diapers, and wipes. Also, it's super kid friendly! Your kiddo can play in their designated play area OR play with the merchandise. Cons include getting very little in return for the items you are consigning and the actual consigning process can take forever, especially if you go on a weekend. Overall I'd say it's a great place to shop but not a great place to consign.

I do like larger stores that offer individually owned bays of merchandise. 3 Magpies is it's own family operated shop, which I enjoyed a recent visit. It's like an onion as there are many layers to places like this. And it will be a new onion the next time I visit. It was fun to look around this nicely curated shop: up, down, across, and under. I ended up with a small specialty vintage Soviet "knife" for the collection. Not a bad haul for such a too short visit.
