Never in all of my years of working with contractors have I had such an unfortunate experience. Work began on our house without proper permitting and without a certificate of insurance- both required by law. Work completed did not meet code as determined by both a licensed architect and the local town code enforcement officer. The code officer outlined the steps necessary to make our house a legally inhabitable space, but THS failed to assume full financial responsibility to make it right. We had to pay out of pocket for what is essentially the price of the original contract to fix these issues ourselves. THS has not returned any credit for our substantial out of pocket expenses to bring their work up to code and has not reached out to resolve the issue. It shakes me to the core that people and their companies can sleep at night with this type of behavior. Based on our family's experience I WOULD AVOID THIS BUSINESS UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES.

While this company's concierge service was decorating a local Saratoga house (as they do every…read moreyear) with mostly absent homeowners, one of the staff they employ to do the work was absolutely rude to a neighborhood of year round Saratogian residents. Using a lift crane to decorate their customers home they completely blocked the street for hours and yelled at the residents to "go around the block" and at one point even gave the middle finger to two of us. Rather than say "sorry for the inconvenience and would you mind going around temporarily", they chose to be extremely rude. I find this unacceptable for a company that touts themselves as "local".

Our goal was to restore it to its original liveability as a single family home. Teakwood has a reputation as expensive and our initial bid, to do everything on a wish list, was pretty high. But they worked with us and a revised bid was significantly lower and we went with them. This bid entailed a clear-eyed distinction between "need to" and "nice to" improvements so we ended up with a price we were happy with. The quality of the work, both by Teakwood carpenters and their subs, is superb. Teakwood has a philosophy of assigning a master carpenter to oversee the job and our guy, Dan Decenzo, could not be better. Josh, the guy who did a number of built-ins, is a master of his craft and we now have benches and bookcases that look like they have been there 130 years like the rest of the structure. We were offered a 1 year satisfaction guarantee and I'm prompted to write because, well over 1 year after the fact, Dan has been back recently to fix a couple minor things. Bottom line, we are really happy with Teakwood and would definitely recommend you bid out your project to them.

We proactively replaced our current 24 year old roof using the Consumer Reports recommended Owens…read moreCorning Duration shingles. I recommend Frank Witz without hesitation because 1) He is a Saratoga Springs native with over 30 years of roofing expertise 2) He is an Owns Corning preferred roofer and therefore offered the Owens Corning transferable 50 year warranty for our new roof, which includes full labor for the first 10 years. At $400 extra cost, this warranty seemed reasonable to us because having it will likely increase our home's future resale value. 3) Two of our neighbors were pleased with the cost and reroofing results using Frank's service within the last month, and I was informed by one of them that Frank is the roofer of choice some of our area home builders. 4) Frank's written estimate included everything (clean up and haul away old roofing) and he was able to schedule our job within two weeks of placing our order. There were no cost overages. Frank reasonably asked for only 1/3 down by check on the day the job started with the balance to be paid after completion. He capped a white PVC plumbing exhaust vent pipe for which I provided the ventilated cap at no extra charge. 5) Athough our neighbors homes were completed in one day (with a rain delay on one of them) our roof is larger with a more complex design and took two days straight. Fortunately the rain held off, but each day had record temperatures reaching over 100° real feel! Frank assured me that his workers were used to working under those extreme conditions. He used a team of workers of Ecuadorian Indigenous extraction who were short in stature but amazingly strong, who Frank assured me were US citizens. Despite the extreme heat, they worked relentlessly, only taking hydration and lunch breaks, from the time they arrived just before 7 AM until early evening the first day and until the job was completed by late afternoon on the second day. They protected our outside patio furniture, grill, HVAC unit, and home generator with large mesh. The job site cleanup was good including using magnets to remove stray roofing nails from our lawn. They left a small pile of garbage adjacent to our driveway that Frank removed within two days of job completion. Frank returned for a walk around to examine the job and be paid the balance four days after job completion. The only concern I had was that there were some openings located between the shingles and the vinyl ceiling beneath the eaves where the "bird boxes" or "returns" on the roof were located. He told me he would have "one of his guys" stop by within a week to seal these openings to prevent wasps and birds from nesting in these areas. They returned the next business day and sealed all the openings to my satisfaction. Less than two weeks after the job was completed, epic thunderstorms with torrential rains associated with area tornadoes barreled through our town and there were no roof leaks. The Slatestone Gray color we chose has a three dimensional appearance and perfectly matched our siding and 24 year old vinyl shutters. With the new roof, our home has more "curb appeal" than it did when it was originally built! Bottom line: If you need a roof call Frank Witz.

This was by far the worst experience with a plumbing company I have ever had. For background, i…read moreused to be a plumber. My wife called these people for a clogged kitchen sink. Their tech showed up, and proceeded to try to plunge the clog, despite being told that we have tried that. He then left to get a snake. He came back with a 1/4" 15' hand crank snake that might as well have come from fischer price. A plumber going to a clogged line call without a snake is just about the most idiotic thing i had ever heard . . . or so i thought. By this point, i was on a phone call for work when i hear blood curdling screams for help coming from the basement. This genius had decided to cut a hole in the pipe (without talking to anyone) and was trying to catch the drain water with MY bucket while standing on MY step stool in my finished basement. He then tried to tell me that he had to cut the hole, because his 15' snake couldn't reach the clog. He then claimed that because there was grease in the line, the whole line would need to be replaced, which couldn't be done until the next day. He wouldn't leave without getting paid and promised to send me an estimate to replace the line. To sum up, they demanded $330 for doing absolutely nothing, except making a mess and cutting a hole in my pipe. The next morning, i called because i had received no estimate. I was told that it would cost $600+ to replace the pipe, and that i would be charged a cancellation fee if i refused. Instead, i called a real plumber who came with a real snake and had the drain cleared inside 30 minutes. That and repairing the pipe cost less than what Burnell had charged for nothing. Recent services with Burnell's Plumbing have resulted in poor customer service. I had two…read morescheduled appointments in which after more than 3 hours past the appointment I called to determine the status of my scheduled service - only to be told there had been a change in schedule and I would need to be rescheduled. I generally don't mind being rescheduled but pro-active communication so I am not left waiting for technicians would be nice. If they are holding a 50% deposit on work, I would expect bettter communication with the customer on scheduling the service. The technicians while friendly and polite, have been inexperienced, resulting in small mistakes I don't feel are appropriate to deal with when paying for service. Including missing thread seal and forgetting to turn water supplies back on after service. Would not recommend.
