When It's crowded near hear, sometimes it can be kinda hard to hear it. Kids love these stairs, and why not!! And when I say kids, I mean kids of all ages!! So, if you're at Pier 39, keep a lookout for these. They are located about the middle of the pier on the right side when entering the pier. It's definitely worth checking out!!

The Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory is also there. PERFECT photoshoot opportunities with colorful lanterns and signs. Also lots of beautiful murals and history plaques to observe.

R O S S Alley is a true slice of SF…read more This touristy alley has a rich history and is home to Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, By Me Boba Tea, Sweetheart Florist and so many small businesses. It's got a nostalgic feel of history that goes deep back to the mid 19th century, but all the moderness of the late 20th century - fire escapes, terraces, large picture frame windows, panel and brick inflections. Featured in films such as The Karate Kid II, BIg Trouble in Little China and even Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom running between Jackson St / Washington St bordered by Grant Avenue and Stockton Street it's true local flavor in every way. Ross goes all the way back to 1849/1850 (when it was built and established) to present day being updated as needed, but preserved. I take every opportunity to talk to older generations of women that were a part of woman's equality. No, no, not this third wave feminism that is going around lately but about treating people the same regardless of the bits and pieces they happened to be born with. Things these days got way off track. Its madness. I wanted my Rinks to see the true and pure form of feminism - and I assigned Rosi the Riviter to be her hero the same way I made Sweets look up to Otto the bulldog. Yes thats what a helicopter parent does. An older lady next door - an attorney - told me she was bewildered and disappointed in the young generation of women. Entitled, easily offended and using men as body guards is the new norm. She told me 'our generation did all the work - they don't have to do much.' Both she and I felt that the women's movement was taking a step backwards the past 10 or 20 years. Take a look at Rosi and I think its easy to see the above being true. Talk to 70 or 80 or 90 year old women as much as you can and learn the history before its too late. I like history. Old stuff. Old cars.... old houses. Teach our youth the best you can and make sure they have somebody to look up to.

Excuse me while I listen to Benny Goodman's band play "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B" and do the jitterbug with my gal one last time before I get shipped out. But don't cry for the girl I left behind, no-sir-ree, because she became Rosie the Riveter, one of the brave women who worked on the home front during World War II while I was dodging hand grenades overseas. Surprisingly, this is the first memorial fully dedicated to the dedicated contributions of these women, and the minimalist design by visual artist Susan Schwartzenberg and landscape architect/environmental sculptor Cheryl Barton is on the subtle side. At first, you think it's just a piece of a ship's hull you're looking at with photos, letters and memorabilia laminated on the enamel panels (photo: http://bit.ly/2xSG7QG). But then you realize the walkway marks the timeline about the home front activities at the time and includes quotes from Rosies chiseled into the white granite. There are also pieces of stainless steel that suggest unfinished sections of the warships they built. This gives you a realistic depiction of the challenges the Rosies faced back then with discrimination, hazardous working conditions, and child care. Two adjacent rose gardens complete the grounds. What's not to love about the Haight-Ashbury area!! It's historic, eccentric, hippie, and vibrant!!…read more I remember as a kid, my mother and her friends would pack us all up and make a day of it. Remember the wagons??? The adults up front. The kids wayyyyy back in the luggage area!! We would walk all around and have a nice lunch out. Go to our friend's home to play games. This area is so colorful! The old Victorian architecture, the upbeat streets, vintage shops, unique finds, fusion of cafes, the music, and great thrifting. Parking can be a bear!! There's street parking, but that's a hit and miss! Lucky for us, we parked a few blocks away and walked. There's free parking near Golden Gate Park. Some folks used the parking apps and pay to be closer. Overall, this area is nostalgic! We love it even though we aren't here as often as we would like.

The Neighbourhood has become gentrified a bit, and there are a couple of corporate places, (there's a Ben & Jerry's right on the main corner!) but there were lots of other great shops. Vintage clothing, shops, smoke shops, and a good amount of great restaurants. Lots to see, do, and buy. Definitely check out the counterculture museum. It's not expensive to get into, and it tells an interesting story about the "hippie movement", and what it was all about. The museum also have a great bookstore. It's always fun coming back to this neighborhood to see what has changed.

Coveted neighborhood in San Francisco…read more I felt like a stalker driving in this beautiful upscale neighborhood located in the northwestern part of San Francisco... just admiring the large houses with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and amazing scenery of the ocean. The best part was discovering an access to Baker Beach!! We found it by accident, there is a trail that heads down towards the beach... there are houses along the entrance on 25th Avenue N and parking is limited because the gate sits in a neighborhood. This access is probably mostly for the residents. These celebrities have called Sea Cliff home at one point: * Robin Williams - before he moved to Tiburon * Sharon Stone - when she was married to the executive editor for the SF Examiner * Cheech Marin - "Whoa! Quarter Pounder!" [referring to an impossibly big joint - "Up In Smoke"] * Eugene Levy (American Pie series of movies) * Kirk Hammett - musician [Metallica] * Paul Kantner - musician [Jefferson Airplane] * Jack Dorsey - Twitter CEO * Luke Brugnara... now that name may not sound familiar to me or you but he was once a commercial real estate investor and developer. He once owned the pink mansion built into a cliffside which overlooked the SF Bay and has a clear view of the GG Bridge. The house also has a staircase that zigzags down the cliffside and leads into a private cove. Well, "Lucky Luke" turns out to be a scam artist and went to jail. The mansion is now a fixer-upper... $15 million, anyone? I may never own a home in this exclusive neighborhood but "dreaming" that I own a home in this exclusive neighborhood is FREE! Review #2014

The houses are stunning here and worth a fortune of course. I love passing by Robin William's old estate and seeing its' condition. It hasn't been looking too grand as of late, but I'm sure that'll all change when someone moves in and remodels it. If you're hiking from Land's End to the Golden Gate Bridge, you're almost bound to pass through this beautiful neighborhood anyways. Come and explore the estates of the rich and famous! Can you imagine having Land's End and Baker Beach just steps away, practically right in your backyard?! Well, this is it. Sea Cliff has the most gorgeous views of the beach and city. It's a quiet neighborhood but so fun to walk through. I love seeing all of the beautiful flowers and well manicured lawns. If only I could afford to live here! Ha! Only in my dreams. Maybe one day in the far, far future. Until then, I'll just enjoy my walks through the neighborhood on my trips to the beach.

I first experienced Point Reyes in the mid 70s when we arrived from Chicago Illinois. We lived…read moretemporarily in my grandparents family home in Inverness while my dad was studying for the California bar. After he passed the bar exam and obtained a job and we moved away. We continued to spend weekends and summer vacations in Inverness and I spent a lot of time in Point Reyes and surrounding areas. Almost 50 years later it is still very familiar to me. A lot more hipster than hippie now but still laid back and nostalgic for me. Many of the original businesses are still here just with modern updates. Toby's, the gas station, the Presbyterian church, the elementary school are still around. This is a great place to come to after a day of hiking or spending time at one of the nearby beaches .

This fair is pretty basic & feels like beginners effort. I'm looking forward to seeing how the LOHA Merchants Association expands the offerings. Of particular note is The Faight. They pretty much took over Haight street next to their store. They sponsored a band, had racks of clothing for sale, & their store & gallery were open for business. A welcome addition to the local scene for sure. The later you stay, the better the fashion gets. So add people watching to the entertainment. Another reason to visit or be proud of the hood.
