My friend and I took a day trip to Sausalito and were in the mood for Italian food, we happened to stumble upon Poggio Trattoria. The ladies at the front desk welcomed us with a smile, we knew we had picked the right place! It was a perfect day to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful ambiance. My friend said it reminded her of a side walk cafe in Europe! Our waiter was Italian and charming. We enjoyed the Pizza Margarita and the Shrimp Pasta which were both delicious! Took a day trip to Sausalito on a busy Labor Day weekend. We checked out some other restos on Bridgeway Ave, on Yelp, and Poggio's satisfied our craving for Italian food. We were a party of 3, and we were seated right away. Our preference was indoor seating which provided a very relaxing atmosphere for us. We ordered the Fichi pizza, spaghetti, and Radiatori. It so happened when our food came, we got a dish of Gnudi instead of Radiatori . Our server immediately noticed the error, and thankfully it wasn't a long wait for the Radiatori. Additionally, our server offered a complimentary dessert. Overall, our experience with the quality of the food, service, and ambiance was very satisfactory. On our next trip to Sausalito, we'll return to Poggio's and try their other menu items. read more

Three of us had lunch at Poggio Trattoria on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon. We were seated outdoors and the people watching was great! As usual, we ordered a salad, a pizza, and a pasta to share family style. For the salad, we had the pesca with the fresh peaches and goat cheese; I think this was my favorite item. We had the pizza with the figs and the tagliatelle as our other two dishes. Both the pizza and pasta were good, but neither stood out as "must reorder" items. For the cost, the portions were not huge, so it as a very light lunch. No matter, there were plenty of ice cream shops nearby for a dessert topper! It was nice that they gave us carbonated water for the table at no extra charge; most restaurants only offer still water. Service was a bit slow, but we were in no hurry, so it was fine. Food and service were good enough that I would return the next time I'm in Sausalito. read more

The perfect ending to an unforgettable day! After an incredible bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, we were absolutely starving and decided to stop at Poggio Trattoria. It turned out to be one of the best dining experiences of our entire Fourth of July weekend! A special thank you to Maria at the front, who welcomed us with such kindness and found us a wonderful table on the beautiful outdoor patio. It was the perfect place to relax after our ride and soak in the lively Sausalito atmosphere. Our server, Christie, was exceptional. My husband has celiac disease, and I have multiple food allergies and sensitivities, so dining out can often be stressful. Christie listened carefully, answered all of our questions, and made us feel completely comfortable. Her knowledge, patience, and attention to detail allowed us to simply relax and enjoy our meal. The food was outstanding! Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. It is such a gift to find a restaurant where delicious food and excellent allergy awareness go hand in hand. The patio atmosphere was everything you hope for in Sausalito...beautiful weather, people enjoying the holiday weekend, and the perfect setting to celebrate after an unforgettable ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. I went to Paggio in Sausalito just to grab a latte, and unfortunately the experience was extremely unpleasant. The bartender was incredibly rude and dismissive from the moment I interacted with him. He was making comments under his breath and giving off a very disrespectful attitude. I was also told that the wait would be longer, but I noticed him continuing to take and serve other customers' orders while I was waiting. The whole interaction felt unnecessary and unprofessional. What made the experience even worse was that I felt I was being treated differently because of my background. I can't say for certain what his intentions were, but the way I was treated came across as discriminatory and made me very uncomfortable. I came in simply wanting a latte and expected basic courtesy and professionalism. Instead, I left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. This place was awesome! My first time here. My friend had already been here a few times and suggested it for us. We got outdoor seating on a lovely evening, and had a great time. It took some time for us to place our order but once it was placed, everything came in a timely manner and tasted great! Our drinks were good and the food was good too. We got the cranberry lemonade and lychee-tini mocktail, along with patate mashed potatoes, arancini, pink sauce pasta, and my friend got the pollo. The arancini were really good, and filling as an appetizer. My pasta was amazing but I ended up taking lots of leftovers home. My friend also enjoyed her chicken. Would definitely come back here again. Sitting outdoors was nice. People passed by walking, would look at our plates, and would be intrigued at our food and would want to come in. Poggio has a genuinely authentic Italian feel the moment you walk in. The layout leans traditional, with classic seating and a warm, old-world atmosphere that fits perfectly with Sausalito's charm. The downtown boardwalk view is definitely a highlight - sitting by the windows overlooking the water adds a lot to the experience. Getting to the restroom upstairs going through the hotel with no direction, however, felt like solving a maze. Navigating the upper floors turned into a bit of an adventure on its own, not necessarily negative, but slightly confusing and unexpected. Food-wise, it was decent but not memorable. The pizza was okay, though slightly burned on the bottom, which affected both texture and flavor. Watch out for kids cheese pizza as it comes standard adult size one. For the price point, it felt a bit overpriced for what was delivered. The biggest drawback was the service. It was extremely delayed, and the wait between ordering and receiving food stretched far longer than it should have. Overall, it's a pleasant, character-filled spot with a great location, but the execution didn't quite match the setting. Came here for a company dinner. The restaurant is located right next to the bay. If it wasn't cold and raining you could definitely opt to eat at the outdoor patio seating for a better view. The inside of the restaurant was large and had a large wine selection wall behind the bar as soon as you enter. There is so much seating, but I would definitely say Sunday is the best time to go because it wasn't overly crowded. Definitely good for all group sizes. The service was amazing and so helpful with food suggestions and wine pairings. We had a bunch of appetizers: arancini, fegatini, & the sformatino to name a few. Everything was absolutely delicious but my favorite dish was the gnudi which is essentially spinach gnocchi with beef ragu. This is definitely a MUST try! That was probably the most pillowy soft gnocchi I've had in the Bay Area! The ragu paired with it very well too because it was so tender. For dessert I had the lemon mousse which was a nice refreshing dessert after a heavy meal and I loved how it had pistachios for a nice crunchy texture. Our family had such a lovely time here and big kudos to our server who I think was Kristy (Christie?) which we only knew because another fellow patron leaving the restaurant greeted her on his way out, loudly proclaiming Kristy is the best, so clearly she has regulars who adore her! From the get go, our experience was great. We made a reservation for 12:30 but got there early by 12 since our family photo shoot nearby had ended earlier than we thought. We were a larger group, with grandma, grandpa, nephew, kiddo, etc. but they seated us immediately even though we were early. Kristy did a lovely job explaining some items on the menu for us especially when my brother-in-law had questions about what to order. She also kindly corrected us when we ordered spaghetti and pizza for the kids; we almost ordered the full adult portions of those items until she clarified if we wanted the kids' spaghetti and kids' pizza which are actually way better proportioned for kiddos. I ordered a risotto, my husband ordered a rigatoni, my mom ordered a salmon, my brother-in-law a gnudi, can't remember what my sister ordered (lol sorry) and my dad got a pizza. The food was wonderful and well made and delicious! Kristy did apologize that three of our orders didn't come out in time due to a computer error but we were quite patient about it so she comped us free dessert!! My family and I were getting hungry after strolling the charming streets of Sausalito...and we decided to come here to have our late lunch especially there is no wait. At first I didn't expect much, but everything changed after I started looking at the extensive menu and realized this place is serious about the food they serve. We ordered one pizza and a savory custard plus two more pasta dishes. As you can see in the pictures, the presentations were elegant; and the taste of the dishes were so delicious. I was very surprised and enjoyed the flavor and texture of the (cauliflower?) custard, and glad that our friendly waiter recommended it to us! The servers were amazing and despite having no reservations, they were able to accommodate us on a busy night. We got the ravioli and a margarita pizza. Both dishes were decent but I've had better at other places. Pizza could be improved if the ingredients were more "melted" together. It felt like the cheese, sauce and basil were all separate items thrown on bread, there was no cohesiveness. The pasta was fine. It had different textures which was nice. The cheese (ricotta salata) that was placed on top was super good. I wish there was a way to get that cheese in every bite without having to cut the 4 already thin slices into smaller sections. Oh man, we had such high expectations after having had two amazing experiences in 2009 and 2010. Unfortunately it's nowhere near as good. The arancini were good by American standards, the bread and butter very good. As for entrees, my seafood risotto was just okay- it was missing a little something and was mushier instead of al dente. My husband's fettuccine with clams was supposed to have breadcrumbs, but they were croutons!!! Croutons in pasta?? Ridiculous. The kids spaghetti was drowned in sauce, but the three pizzas ordered looked very good! It was a mixed bag of satisfaction when we spoke so highly about it to our Italian guests and expected to leave elated. Will definitely not be returning! read more

I stopped in to eat during my break while taking our summer program to see Sausalito. I walked in a few minutes before opening, so I wasn't expecting immediate service. The woman who sat me was very polite (although she sat me far in the back below a swarm of flies, as well as the man who took my order). However, there was an older woman there yelling at her employees in front of customers, and she stood by as one of the other customers disrespected me to my face. I suppose a customer with a reservation is worth more to her than a young black kid who was just trying something new. While race and age may not seem relevant, I was the only black person AND the only person that was relatively young. While I thought the food was decent (albeit overpriced), I ended up with food poisoning the next day! Go at your own risk. read more

First, I love Sausalito! My handsome fiance and I enjoyed a really amazing breakfast, at Poggio Trattoria. I had the Poggio Scramble with eggs over med, with ham, potatoes, and tst..It was really delicious, my eggs were perfectly cooked..We shared some bacon also. It was delicious, and I need to say it was also cooked perfectly. My guy had the Tosti Mattino, it was a breakfast sando with baked eggs, prosciutto, and mozzarella. It looked good, he ate it all.. I had a latte, I cant remember what his coffee drink was, it was served in a martini glass, strong and cold..He really liked it..I'll show a Pic. Elias was our server and was very polite, and efficient. The restaurant is really nice inside and the seats were so comfy.. When we arrived we were greeted and told to sit wherever we like. Whenever we visit the Bay Area we try to carve out some time to have dinner in Sausalito. This time we went to Poggio for dinner and reserved an outdoor table. It is not on the waterfront but has a nice Italy Tuscan feel to the place. We had our jackets on as it gets cool as soon as the sun sets. We ordered the Vedure Pizza and the local Pesce. paired with a bottle of Feudi Falanginha. The meal was good with fresh ingredients. The portion sizes were small. After spending the day in Muir Woods and the Sausalito area, we decided to have a bite to eat and saw Poggio. Upon stopping in, we saw the staff hustling and bustling and thought there would be a wait as the restaurant seemed rather busy. To my surprise, we were sat immediately. I ordered the mista salad and a margherita pizza, both of which were really good. I spit the salad with my boyfriend and wish they did a better job splitting it because he had way more than I did. My boyfriend ordered the pork chop, which was not cooked evenly. For a Michelin Star restaurant, I'd expect them to nail the cook on their meat, but alas, there were parts of the meat that were really pink and parts that weren't. The cut of meat was rather thick so it would have been impressive had they cooked it properly. The service was interesting. Out server would come up to the table and would walk away before we could finish what we were saying. I know they were busy but after we were done we sat there for awhile...it was just overall slow and kind of odd. They won their Michelin Star in 2018 so I'm willing to bet things were better then and they're just riding on the coattails of having a Michelin Star. read more

Excellent Italian Cuisine served both indoor or at open air sidewalk tables with a casual, yet slightly fancy vibe. Tucked away in an inlet just north of the Golden Gate, Sausalito is somewhat of a tourist spot for both locals as well as visitors from far away lands. Here you will find many restaurants, but one of our favorites is Poggio Trattoria right here on the main drag just across the street from the town square and ferry dock. Note that if you do get seated at the tables outside of the front entry, the help can be a little hard to track down. Out of sight, out of mind, perhaps.. Still friendly and courteous when you do find them though.. Most importantly, every dish we had here was delightful, from beginning with our Prosciutto appetizer, to a giant seared scallop, followed by our mains which included a wood-fired Margherita Pizza, Pappardelle, and the Seafood Risotto. All were delicious and on point. Portions are reasonably sized, so that you can try out more.. YUM.. we look forward to returning here soon! Getting Here: Parking can always be a little tight, but there are public parking lots across the street once you get a block away from the small downtown. Taking the Ferry Boat here would be my first choice, as you get a scenic relaxing boat ride across the Golden Gate, and will be totally chill by the time you get to the restaurant! We went as a group of 8 to celebrate a retirement. The occasion was unbeknownst to the staff but the service was top notch as if they knew. The atmosphere was festive for the holidays. The restaurant is beautiful but so much more so with the decorations. And the food did not disappoint. My halibut with butter beans and spinach was perfectly cooked and flavorful. A long time staple and absolute gem of an Italian restaurant. The food has never disappointed. The grilled Octopus Antipaste is delicious. Love the Tartare. Salads are wonderful and fresh. Halibut, salmon, branzino, short ribs ... yes, yes, YES and YES. Service is amazing as well. Staff is like family and very knowledgable. We've come here for Thanksgiving dinner 2 out of the last 3 years and will be back. Oh, and the drinks are great as well - mocktails and cocktails! The added bonus is the view and people watching sitting outdoors on a beautiful Sausalito day. The heat lamps are wonderful for colder days and they allow dogs outside! The Anatra- Confit duck leg, baby kale, endive, apples, pistachios, pickled onion & aceto balsamico. A very clean, lite, nutrient packed salad. That confit duck leg!! Let me say it again.... That confit duck leg was the most tender piece of duck I've had to date. The glutton in me wanted to get another to go. It was that stellar. This was the first item that stood out the most to me. Nice vibe! We came here without reservation. Since we are a large group, we waited 30mins to be seated. Another 20 mins to take our orders. I love their pizzas and costata! I asked the server for recommendation for pasta. He recommended Gnudi. Tried it for the first time. Sad to say, it's just not for me. It's mushy and green. It costs me $30 and i was not able to enjoy nor eat it. Had Tiramisu for dessert. 3 stars. I should've had pannacotta instead. Poggio's is a Sausalito staple. Great for drinks at the bar with friends, nice lunch in their outdoor bistro seating, or a fancier dinner for a celebration. Our table took 20 minutes longer than our reservation time, so we got cocktails at the bar (the martinis are great). When we finally sat down in a back of the room booth, it was still quite loud, so just a note for your audience. We got the wood fired flatbread which is like thin crust pizza dough that's crispy in the edges, covered in oil and garlic. Simple but delicious. For appetizers, the burrata with pesto was large, and the pesto alone was amazing. The prosciutto and melon (it was honeydew) was as expected but still good. For mains, the risotto was exceptional, full of flavor and tons of seafood. The pappardelle pasta dish was decadent with a quail ragu (and an impressive amount of meat). The spaghetti alla amatriciana was simple, but well executed with a good portion of sauce. For the non-pasta lovers, the short rib was fantastic with the creamiest polenta. It was a little strange that a large (cooked) onion was just added to the dish, but good nonetheless. Wrapping up with dessert, the budino is the chocolate lava cake of your dreams. Even non-chocolate lovers will appreciate it. If you do have allergies, they're great about confirming with the kitchen since some ingredients aren't listed on the menu. Biggest highlight of the night was our waiter Jamsheed. He was attentive, thoughtful, helpful, and did his job with flare. Will definitely asked for him next time we come! read more

Very Disappointing Experience - Won't Be Back I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Poggio was bad enough that it deserves one. Five friends and I tried multiple times (at least 5 calls) just to get someone on the phone to ask about breakfast reservations. When we finally got through, we were told Poggio doesn't take breakfast reservations and to "go on the website." Of course, the website also does not allow breakfast reservations. We called back again and were told, "Just walk in, there will be plenty of tables." So we did. Upon arriving, we politely asked for a round table so we could talk as a group. The waiter who greeted us was immediately rude and dismissive and told us, "Just so you know, you have to order your food from the bar and serve yourself." I asked when that policy started, and he sarcastically and rudely replied, "2003." That is simply not true--we were there about a month ago and were served at the table, like a normal restaurant. His response felt condescending and, frankly, like he just didn't want to serve us. Between the confusing and incorrect information, the poor communication, and the disrespectful attitude, we decided to leave. We walked down the street to Suzette, where we received excellent service and fantastic food--a night-and-day difference. We are a group that holds monthly restaurant meetings, usually with 10 or more people. Poggio has officially lost our business going forward. Plenty of better options in Sausalito. Poggio is no longer one of them. read more
