On 7/26/2019, 495 Garage Doors, Inc was sent by American Home Shield on behest of of landlord. A technician, David, was sent and arrived during the given time frame. I was told by the technician that he was to receive payment before he did any work. I attempted to reach my landlord and told him that I was under the impression that he was paid and that I was only to be providing access to the garage for the repairs. He insisted he had not been and threatened to leave the job site. Needing to have the repair done due to security issues I wrote a check. The work was completed and I was able to reach my landlord who was concerned because the insurance deductible had been paid and I didn't need to give the technician a check. I immediately cancelled my check. We were contacted by Sarah Ben-Shoushan via email on 7/26/19 who stated they received a call from the landlord who said to the company that "we performed a job were[sic] not authorized to perform for the garage door." In addition, she claimed that "after inspecting the damage and checking coverage with AHS [David] explained what repairs were necessary in full detail, and provided a quote to perform said repairs. Per our technician, he was authorized to proceed with the repair and received payment at the completion of said repairs with check #196 for $375". Referencing the paragraph above, we were not communicated with honestly about the full scope of work, what payments had been received, and what was covered by insurance versus additional cost. We were lied to. Ultimately, after some back and forth, it was agreed that a technician would be sent out to replace the new parts with the old parts that were taken from the original job. On 8/21/19, The same technician arrived, removed the new parts, and placed the old parts on my garage floor. He claimed that to install the old parts is labor and that he would not finish the job unless I pay a $150 fee for labor. I contacted Sarah Ben-Shoushan who supported the technician's claim. Sarah gave me the option of receiving a discount on the labor or there was nothing else they could do. Again, we were lied to. Not only was the job not finished and our agreement not respected (I have a copy of the e-mail of this agreement), we were also told about the requirement for a labor charge AFTER David had completed removing the new parts. 495 Garage Door, Inc. has unethical business practices. 8.22.19 UPDATE to Owner's reply: WRONG CUSTOMER! You have only been at our location TWICE! We have the camera footage to prove it. During our back and forth you scheduled a time for repairs and your technician was a NO SHOW. We weren't told of the cancellation until the following day (we have the email proofs). We were lied to. It's convenient how you also didn't address the $15 difference from the check that I wrote (and cancelled) versus what you quoted me on email. It's confirms my original review that you and your team are unscrupulous and thieves. In addition, you NEVER contacted the insurance company to tell them what was the issue with the door. You didn't even follow the insurance company's guidelines. You attempted to get us to pay for it. IN THE EMAIL, you stated you would REPLACE the new parts with the old parts and never quoted a $150 charge for labor until you left our old parts ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. I HAVE THE EMAIL. DON'T MAKE ME POST IT. As a company you didn't even have the decency to leave our garage in the same condition you found it, but instead have left it completely INOPERABLE. According to the insurance company, all that was necessary was for you to reprogram the garage door frequency. read more

I was put in contact with 495 Garage Door Inc through my American Home Shield insurance. My garage door was acting up mainly when my wife was home alone, which caused her some stress, I had others look at it and do various repairs but the issue kept occurring. Originally, the 495 technician, Avi, came out to assess the problem, he identified that the lower panel had buckled slightly, that it wasn't braced properly, and the door was very cheap model half steel/half plastic and not insulated. It was the original door that had been installed when the house was built 17 years ago, and was the cheap 'contractor grade'. Avi explained the whole door should be replaced by an all steel insulated door that met my HOA rules. He showed me a couple of samples and the Clopay Door seemed to be the best option for us and perfectly fitted the HOA's visual rules. The door was ordered and within less than a week I was contacted by the nice scheduling lady at 495 to arrange for the installation. 'Eli' turned up right at the start of the appointment window and went to work straight away. He worked fast and efficiently and made the job seem easy. It was obvious he knew what he was doing! Unfortunately one of the new door panels had a dent at the edge, Eli only discovered this after taking it out of it's packaging. He brought it to my attention immediately and said he he could still complete the installation but would have to order a new panel and come back to replace the dented panel at no extra charge. He completed the installation, put in an extra brace on the lower panel to avoid the door buckling again, demonstrated the new door, and gave me some hints and tips about not having rakes and tools standing near the tracks as they can fall and interfere with the door operations and possibly damage it. Eli took way the old door cleaned up after himself, sprayed and wiped down any dirt or hand marks that occurred during installation, and informed me that he had already contacted the office that the new panel had been ordered and they would be in contact with me to arrange for installation. 495's nice scheduling lady contacted me within a week to arrange for the panel replacement, it was during the holiday season and we had house guests so it it was not convenient, after all the door was functioning perfectly. So she worked with me and we eventually scheduled the panel replacement in late January. Eli came back to replace the dented panel. Once again he turned up right at the start of the appointment window, got straight into it working quickly and efficiently and had the panel replaced in no time! Again he cleaned up after himself, wiped and cleaned down the entire door, did some fine tuning adjustments on the motor, adjusted the rubber strip at the bottom so it was sealing correctly when closed. I was wholly pleased with my experience with 495 Garage Door Inc. from the scheduling to the prompt expert service. We totally lucked out with 495 Garage Door. Our home warranty assigned them to us to do the repair on our garage door. We didn't have a choice and sometimes that turns into a bust (ie the three weeks I've been waiting to hear back from from our oven repairman and it's now the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.) But 495... They called within a few hours of being assigned to us through the warranty. I spoke with two women (I wish I had written their names down for this review!), both of who were extremely helpful through a terrible day of technology on their end. It looked like between their availability and ours it would be a week before anyone could come out. "That's not right. That's not our company." was the first woman's response. She then asked the second woman to help to ensure that we were seen that Monday (it was a Friday.) When the first technician, Hollis, arrived he was courteous, prompt for the appointment time, and kept me updated with each thing he tried for the repair. Unfortunately, it turned out, we needed a new motor. He worked with me and the warranty company to ensure everything was done quickly. A week later Kevin came out. He was also very courteous, prompt based on the appointment time, and worked very quickly. When he was done he took the extra step of showing me how everything worked, programming my car for the new opener, explaining what new technologies could connect with the opener, and cleaning up a ton of the little staples that came with the new packaging. After Kevin left, because Murphey's law, the door wouldn't shut. I called 495 and was told he would be rerouted back to us after his current location. I received a phone call from Kevin less than 5 minutes later, apologizing because he had forgotten to reengage the door after programming my car. He walked me through how to do that (super simple) and apologized again (totally not necessary - I should've known how to reengage the door AND he was helping me by programming my car!) In this time and age, we are all trying to get more bang for our buck, so it was very pleasing and quite surprising that Jeremiah from 495 Garage Door called me within an hour of my contacting my Home Warranty Company about my garage door malfunctioning and allowed me to get just that. Not only did I receive expedient turn-around time, but Jeremiah took the time to calm me down over the phone and further explained to me what would be a quick fix to get my garage door closed until a technician could come out. He further listened to me while I explained how I was sweeping my garage and now the sensors were acting crazy and not allowing my garage door to close completely. I was in panic mode, as I am an owner of two Porsche vehicles and did not want them exposed and unsecure. He provided some professional tips, had me incorporate some techniques and explained to me what had occurred and how to prevent it in the future. He did not require any payment and while I kept thanking him for his service, he in turn, was telling me thank-you for allowing him to be of assistance. I have been with my Home Warranty Company for some years, but this is the first time something of this nature has occurred! Free advice, a known remedy/fix for my issue, and a follow-up email with a you-tube video explaining the ins and outs of my garage door opener. This has been a memorable experience and my standard for my Home Warranty company contractors have escalated. I definitely received a professional experience where it encompassed 110% customer service and the technical expertise of the representative, Jeremiah, warrants mentioning. I have never written any reviews on Yelp, but felt compelled to do so as this company is top notch and above the rest of its competition in my eyes and I will refer them to everyone I know as they are very proficient at what they do. Eli fixed a broken garage door with precision and a smile: Professionalism: the first person I spoke with (Sarah) probably could've done the work. Her technical knowledge and willingness to quote estimated fees was refreshing. I was given the 2pm to 5pm window a few days earlier. At 2:30pm, Sarah called to say that the tech was running behind and that it would be closer to 5pm or possibly a little later. I really appreciated the honest and proactive update as it allowed me to plan my day, including a quick dinner with my family. At 5pm I received an e-mail AND a phone call from the tech (Eli) that he was on his way. Friendliness: Eli introduced himself with a genuine smile and eye contact. He even waited respectfully for me to be ready to join him before entering the side door to the garage. Eli is the tech you're always hoping you'll get on a service call with any service company. I actually enjoyed hanging out with him while he completed the work. Great guy. Quality: Eli is a pro. He explained things as he went and even told me what to expect from the start, including the fee for parts and labor needed. I watched him make the repairs with precision, care, and great attention to detail. I felt I was receiving the same quality service he'd provide to his own family. He even spent a few extra minutes lubricating all hinges, rails, and springs AND patiently helped me program my Homelink buttons in both cars. The type of thing you'd expect a tech to roll his eyes at or just refuse to do, even though it only takes 5 minutes. Eli is GREAT!! I was skeptical from a previous review but believe he was really good. Here's my story - I called my home warranty company yesterday 11/1 late in the afternoon early evening and they assigned me to 495 garage door. I logged on and looked up their number and called to book an appt a few minutes later for the next day (I didn't want an inoperable garage on a rainy weekend). They were COMPLETELY booked up and she went out of her way 45 minutes before closing and called the technician to see if he was able to squeeze me in the next day. He said he could try between 2-6pm. I did ask if he could make it as late as possible due to an overbooked day at work. I called toward the end of the day to see where he was at on his list of jobs, hoping he could still squeeze me in. Eli did not forget me, called me and showed up. It was a broken spring and he fixed it on the spot. Had the parts, had no issues, tested it multiple times, made recommendations, wasn't upset or pushy when I turned down the recommendations and because of his professionalism, great happy demeanor, I will use them again personally even outside of our home warranty company! Great company to use! I thought was well priced (I always ask what the total cost would be oustide of the warrant. 1 spring was $135 covered by my policy). Great Job Eli!! Highly Recommended. I cannot say enough good things about my technician Eli As a company, 495 is tremendous. I was hesitant to pay for a dispatch, especially since other companies give free estimates Eli took a thorough & logical approach to the issue (which was intermittent, i.e. difficult to pinpoint). He also called LiftMaster Support to verify his theory & confirm diagnostics Long story short -- I got 2 other (free) quotes before 495. The issue was something entirely different than either of those 2 companies proposed So ironically, by paying for this dispatch I actually ended up saving a lot of money... Both of the other quotes were more expensive, and neither would have solved my problem AND since the dispatch fee was deducted from the invoice, technically I never paid for it at all More importantly, Eli fixed the issue in the same visit Extremely ethical, competent, & efficient *****HIGHLY RECOMMEND***** P.S. - There are 2 special circumstances worth noting #1 - I have a roll-gate door, which is classified as a "commercial" door & many garage companies won't service it. Requested a quote through yelp and Sara was very responsive. She guided us through the process of picking out new garage doors and never made us feel pressured to work with the company or choose a more expensive product than we wanted or needed. We settled on a door that they did not have readily available in the warehouse but true to Sara's ETA, the doors were ready for installation in two weeks. When the doors were ready, they allowed us to schedule our installation date a little further out for our convenience to make sure we had the garage cleared. We were scheduled for the 10am-2pm installation window. Eli called around 9am to say that he was on the way and would be there early. When Eli arrived, he realized that we had not made enough room in the garage after all but he did not make me feel bad or try to reschedule - instead he asked for a broom and helped me clean up and move the recycling boxes/trim that we had in the garage from our renovations. Installation went by quickly (and didn't even wake our napping baby!). Eli worked clean and left nothing behind. He even fixed an issue with one of the openers that we were not aware of. After a string of bad experiences with contractors doing work on the interior of our house this experience was a relief! If only we had more garage doors to replace :) read more

The tech, Hollis, just left. This is the 2nd time since install that the company has come out. The first time was a bad sensor. This time, just a sensor mis-alignment. Overall, I am very pleased, most especially with Hollis. He had to come to Bethesda from Va and that is a grueling trip. Nevertheless, he called well in advance to let me know where he was and he showed up close to the estimated time (and well within the scheduled window) despite horrible rush hour traffic. Once here, he went right to work and fixed the problem very quickly. What gets him this 5 star review is his attitude and desire to help. He showed me exactly how he knew the problem and even showed me the green sensor light so that if this recurs I can hopefully fix it myself. I did not know about the light previously. He also took a couple of minutes to talk to me about the opener in general and how to teach the outside keypad a code (we had not done this previously). Again, 495 gets 4.8 stars for their response and scheduling. Hollis gets 5 stars for being quick, polite and a genuinely friendly person. While I hope to not need service again for a good long time, 495 would be my first call. Thank you. read more

Called 495 Garage Door as they had previously worked on and replaced the springs a couple of years ago. The problem this time was a broken spring again, which is a consequence of my heavy and decaying wooden garage door which caused the motor and springs to be stressed too much and break. After discussing the option to either replace the springs or the garage door, I decided to spring for a garage door replacement. Ordered the door on Friday (through Sarah and Avi), and installed the next Monday. It was an aluminum, insulated garage door with windows. Eli came with his apprentice, Randy, for OJT. (As a trainor myself, I appreciate folks doing OJT so no problem with that) Randy did an excellent job and Eli was there to backstop and QA/QC the install. New door, new rails, new springs installed. Our old garage door was hauled off by 495 Garage Door, the floor was swept clean and the garage door was calibrated to fully seal off all gaps (my previous door had floor gaps). Overall, very happy with the replacement, the new door looks sharp, the opening and closing motion is smooth and quieter with a lighter weight garage door. I was charged by the technician Moshy 800$ for the shaft, pulley, wire and two brackets on the garage door. they said they will charge 400$ more to American Home. Sheild my Home warranty company. So total 1200$ for labor a shaft, 2 pulleys, 2 metal brackets, and metal wires. Said I have to replace the system, shaft I am not a technician and I don't know if the charge of 1200$ is worth the repair, or it's genuine, as at Home Depot, a garage door opener system costs 200-500$ Chamberlain system and the garage door itself costs 1000$. I even don't know if I was cheated or not, The invoice doesn't mention 800$ nor it mentions the 400$ they said they will charge to American Home Shield. Can they be trusted?? . 1200$ for just repair not even replacing a new system. The price on the invoice also doesn't mention the exact costs. The Invoice has all 0s How am I supposed to know. Thier invoice says 0 charged for me I really Doubt the legitimacy of the service and the company. There are no real numbers on paper, all the numbers of 1200$ was said and quoted vocally. If I could give this place a zero I would. The initial visit was great, he was very nice and patient with explaining the process and stayed they have a bad rap and would I go on yelp and give a positive review. Well I should have waited to give my review. One month later when he finally returned 12.27.17 he was very rude and rushed. He had someone working with him, I'm assuming a new person he was showing how the operation works. Every question I asked he seem agitated and abrupt. 81 days later the same issue happened again to my garage door. I call American Home Shield and they state it was over 60 days, therefor I have to pay the service fee again and asked do I want them to return. I declined their service and asked for a new provider. They called me within an hour and came to my home the next day. They looked at my board and guess WHAT 495 NEVER replaced my board it the same board. They took my money and put a band aid on the issue. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They are frauds I called American Home Shied and asked they be taken off as a service provider. read more

Job savers! My cars were trapped in my garage! I called several garage door repair companies who claim on their websites to offer 24/7 emergency service. It turns out that most of them merely have 24/7 answering services with appointments for later dates. Thankfully, 495 Garage Doors actually provides emergency service--the lady who scheduled the techs to come out was so kind and awesome! Tony and David called to let me know they were on their way, arrived when they said they would, and got here in less than two hours after I panic-called for help at 6 pm on a Tuesday. Tony helpfully explained what the issue was, various options on how he and David could/would fix it, and he clearly detailed their reasonable price structure. Extremely professional, helpful, and, most importantly, they fixed the broken spring on my garage door quickly! Hopefully nothing else goes wrong with my garage door but if it does, I'd definitely call 495 Garage Doors again. Thanks guys! read more

My home warranty company referred me to 495. A little issue with scheduling an appointment - one was scheduled without reaching out to me first regarding availability, and I was not available. I called and they worked with me to find a good day and time. Good communication from there on out - heads up when the technician was coming, and a call from the technician, Yemi, when he was close by. They understood that my time was limited and I could not stay beyond the arrival window. Yemi was great. The issue with my door ended up being very simple, I felt pretty stupid that I didn't figure it out on my own. But, Yemi didn't make me feel stupid. He addressed the issue and gave me pointers on what to look for if it happened again and how to address it. He also addressed another nagging issue that was outside of the service call while he was there, at no extra cost. Overall, good service. Recommended, I will use them again and ask for Yemi. read more

After calling a few companies in the area, I decided to go with 495 Garage Door. Fair pricing and excellent customer service. After speaking with Eli and reviewing the issues I was having with my garage door - the top panel was damaged due to an bad install job from the previous owner - he was able to diagnose the damage from photos I sent to him and he provided me with a quote; this way, they could come out and complete the job in one trip versus having to spread them out over two or more. Walter was the technician that ended up completing the repairs. He was friendly, professional, but most importantly on time! I took time off during my lunch break, and he completed the job expeditiously. He had no problems answering any questions I had, and also gave me his professional opinion on typical things to watch for down the road. Great service from 495 Garage Door. Our garage door opener was over 30 years old and well past it's service life. The old screw drive was terribly loud, shaky, the door track rollers were worn, and the outside panel and garage remote were no longer working. I called 495 Garage Door and they were able to squeeze us in an appointment around our work schedules within 48 hours of my calling them. Eli, the service rep was kind enough to call me when he was enroute and upon arrival took the time to carefully listen as I highlighted the issues we were having. He then conducted a full inspection of our system which also revealed a broken door spring and a missing roller for the spring shaft which was about to break in half. Eli was comprehensive in his appraisal of our garage components and offered us several options for fixing the issues at hand. All in all Eli and 495 Garage door come highly recommended. read more

I had become extremely frustrated with my garage door and was referred to Mike Goodman of 495 Garage Door. Mr. Goodman arrived on time and got right to work. He determined that the springs previously had failed to hold the door sufficiently thus breaking a "sprocket" on the motor. He answered ALL of my questions, of which there were many, and showed me exactly where the break had occurred. Mr. Goodman promptly replaced the broken sprocket, adjusted the springs and cleaned up thoroughly after himself. At all times Mr. Goodman was professional and polite. It is clear that Mr. Goodman is extremely knowledgeable and has excellent customer service skills. I will call him again if I have any problems with either of my other garage doors and will definitely let my friends and family know that I have found the ideal person to service our garage doors. David provided great service. The springs on my garage failed with a car stuck in it, and I had to call another company I already knew (Sears) to fix that issue quickly. Sears also wanted to charge me $4,000 to replace my full garage door. I knew I needed another estimate. That's when I called 495 Garage and another garage company. Both 495 and the other company were clear that the door did not need replacement. David's was the most precise and reasonable estimate - he ended up putting in a reinforcement bar that fully solved the problem. He also did the repair immediately - in a matter of minutes. The cost: $250 - clearly a fraction of what I would have paid with Sears! I also learned that 495 would have fixed the springs for much cheaper. Lesson learned - 495 is my new garage door company! I will definitely call them for maintenance issues, including my yearly tuneup. read more
