I feel somewhat bad writing this review just because I didn't have the fortune to work with the people that are good at this company. If you happen to get Kent Sezen, he is the weakest link. An engineer who is simultaneously rude and when called out on that rudeness, petulant and perhaps even vindictive. He ignores design constraints, and "phones-in" his work, says he's done prematurely and needs payment NOW (see prior review of Kent, its so true). He has a very large ego that is bruised easily. I will give him this: When I asked him to not treat my contractor like his personal secretary, he immediately responded "I quit", and I asked him to stay on because I thought he was over-reacting to me asking him to be nicer. I should've let him go at that moment and its on me that I didn't. At the sake of supporting his competent co-engineers, maybe they are worth using, but it's unfortunate they have tied themselves to this guy.

After multiple back and forth and with SF Bay Engineering admitting they aren't familiar with the requirements, they terminated the contract. They refunded their engineering fee, but the architectural cost remained my responsibility. I brought the matter to small claims court, and the court ruled that because I retained the plans, reimbursement was not warranted. Arash came to the house and looked everywhere garage, outside, all the rooms. And thankfully he said there is no foundation concern. Took him I want to say about 40min to look everywhere. They are not cheap. My eyes almost popped out of my socket when I heard about their rate. But I want someone with experience to look at the house. Anyways, there is a little hiccup with the invoice but they reached back to me quickly to resolve it. The inspection cost is separate to the report fee. Just fyi. As a busy professional with many clients and cases, he never answer the phone promptly when urgent matters arose. While I understand that he is a highly sought-after professional, I believe that being busy should not be used as an excuse for poor communication. Competence: While I found his technical skills to be impressive, I had some concerns about the design of the interior spaces. In particular, I found that the floor plan was not very convenient for daily use, and some aspects of the design did not take into account practical considerations. As a first-time home owner, I found that his fees added up quickly, and I felt that he was primarily focused on getting the project done quickly and obtaining the necessary permits rather than prioritizing my overall satisfaction as a customer. While I appreciate Mr. Yang's structure expertise in obtaining permits, I would have preferred a more customer-centric approach, with greater attention paid to my needs and preferences. Overall, I would NOT recommend Mr. Yang to others.
