I recently hired Wei Hong Yang as a structural engineer for a home renovation project. Communication: His email turnaround time is about 12-24 hours after you sign the contract. As a busy professional with many clients and cases, he never answer the phone promptly when urgent matters arose. While I understand that he is a highly sought-after professional, I believe that being busy should not be used as an excuse for poor communication. Competence: While I found his technical skills to be impressive, I had some concerns about the design of the interior spaces. In particular, I found that the floor plan was not very convenient for daily use, and some aspects of the design did not take into account practical considerations. As a first-time home owner, I found that his fees added up quickly, and I felt that he was primarily focused on getting the project done quickly and obtaining the necessary permits rather than prioritizing my overall satisfaction as a customer. While I appreciate Mr. Yang's structure expertise in obtaining permits, I would have preferred a more customer-centric approach, with greater attention paid to my needs and preferences. Overall, I would NOT recommend Mr. Yang to others. If you read till here, I would advise you to carefully consider the costs (time + problems left on home owner + money) and to communicate your needs and concerns clearly throughout the process.

If you have a foundation crack, save yourself the time and trouble and call Avalon Structural first. I got multiple estimates for my fairly extensive ~23' horizontal crack. I found there are three types of companies. The first type will do the minimum to chip out the rusted rebar, throw some fresh rebar in there, patch it up with a "band-aid", and charge you handsomely for a quick in-and-out job. The second will glance at your foundation and immediately tell you it has to be replaced, for an even more handsome price, of course. And then there is Avalon Structural. They will perform a comprehensive and highly structurally sound repair, removing all compromised material, charge a fair price, and stand behind their work with a strong warranty. If you visit their website, read the articles, and watch the videos explaining the right and wrong ways to perform foundation repairs, you will be well-equipped to choose the right company for your foundation job. Or, you can save the time and just call them. We couldn't be happier with our repair. The foundation looks great and feathers in perfectly with the undamaged foundation sections. Ruben came out, looked the job over, and we received a bid the next day. After accepting the bid, he started the process by taking images and measurements of our home. Within a few weeks, we had an approved plan and permit filed with the County. A short time after that, the work was completed and signed off by the County. Ruben and his staff completed all the necessary items for us in the California Residential Mitigation Program Homeowner Dashboard, and we received our check a week after its completion. I said when I have a good experience and you guys turn out to be nice pople I can take down the bad review. He did the soils report and asked for my money before he would send the report. I said I paid him a deposit I would like to make sure he did the report before paying, but I ended up paying. His report apparently stated they needed concrete piers which are three times more expensive and according to the foundation company completely unnecessary. They said it completely over the top, Those are only used on a landslide or slopes in extreme situations and my ground is flat and totally not needed. He is just all about money. I feel He is intentionally trying to screw me over and make the job three times more expensive. I feel He is very much a power-play guy, holds people hostage has SERIOUS, SERIOUS control Issues, has "I have to be right issues". In my personal opinion, There is something psychologically wrong with this guy. It seems to me he enjoys being vicious and will try to destroy you if you disagree with him. I would never never never recommend this company to anyone and I feel he is a scam artist and highly unethical because he is such a control freak. I am thinking of calling the other people who have worked with him and had to get a totally new report to file a class action lawsuit with me against this terror of a man. Any takers??? He is all about money and a complete CONTROL FREAK AND YOU MUST OBEY HIM OR HE WILL BE BRUTALLY MEAN TO YOU. His own workers say there are many complaints about his personality.
