I brought my dog, Lucy, to your clinic sick and scared, hoping for care and understanding. What I got instead was a bill for $734 for bloodwork and a few injections, and an estimate of $2,500 more just to keep her on IV fluids. Here's what breaks me: I bought that same IV bag for $43. Even factoring in professional time, supplies, and overhead, it's hard to understand how that turns into thousands of dollars. In the end, the message was simple -- if I couldn't afford it, I could take my dog home and hope for the best. I don't say this with anger, but with sadness. I respect what veterinarians do -- you carry lives in your hands, and I know that takes skill and dedication. But when compassion becomes unaffordable, something in the system is deeply broken. Most people aren't looking for a handout; they just want a fair chance. There has to be a way for clinics to make a living without pricing love out of reach. Because for many of us, our pets are family -- not "just animals." They trust us to fight for them. And we walk out of these offices feeling helpless, ashamed, and defeated when money stands in the way of mercy. Maybe the system can't be fixed overnight, but I hope people start asking why a $43 bag of fluid turns into a $2,500 price tag -- and what that says about who we've become. In Memory of Lucy I've gone back and forth on whether to post this, but my heart won't let it go. Back in June, my dog Lucy had blood work done. The vet said he saw some things that "looked off." But I never got that call -- no message, no warning, nothing. Now, after losing her, he tells me he "left two voicemails." Funny thing is... my voicemail hasn't worked for over a year. Then he said, "Maybe we emailed you." There's no email either. What that means is this: he knew something was wrong and didn't make sure I knew. And now she's gone. I'm not asking for money. I'm not out for revenge. I just want people -- especially vets -- to remember that what you do, or fail to do, affects real lives. You don't get a second chance to make a phone call that might have saved someone's best friend. Lucy deserved better. And so do the rest of us who trust professionals to care like they say they do. When we adopted her, she was scared and tentative. She ran away from us as soon she could! She's petrified of older, deep voiced men. (This is where the abuse came in, we believe) She has scars and her hip/one toe is extremely crooked. Needless to say, she's had a hard life. Well, I've fallen in love with this fur baby. When we moved, I was soooo scared to take her to a new vet. I have trouble with letting people handle her stronger than she is comfortable. She wouldn't hurt a fly, but she has given a warning snip (no contact) when getting her nails done. They muzzled her and I about cried. (This is not the same clinic, this was one before.) Fast forward yesterday: She had to get her shots, heart worm test, and nails cut. They let my husband help retrain her to cut her nails, no muzzle or nipping. She didn't want the treats (she can be a bit snobby...) so they went and got cheese whiz and started using it and, boom, she ate anything they used it on! This is the FIRST time anyone did something to make sure she was loved on after being poked and prodded. I am very impressed and will definitely be back with her!!

In addition to the euthanasia fee of $197, I had requested an individual cremation, with return of the ashes, and was charged $475 for this. This seemed high, but in a stressful situation, I trusted that I was fairly being charged the going rate for this area. Days later, I decided to check with 12 other local vet offices to get their quotes for similar cremation services. Quotes ranged from $198 to $301! I contacted Julie, the Windermere hospital manager to see if there was a mistake on my bill. She said the fee was correct, attributed the high price to the cremation service they used, and wouldn't make any adjustment to my bill. When I received my cat back and saw the name of the cremation service on the paperwork, it turned out to be the same one used by 2 of the other practices that quoted me a price of just under $220! I feel very taken advantage of by Windermere Animal Hospital at a traumatic time, and will not return to this office in the future.

I got the itemized bill and asked what the two randome charges were? One was for processing and the other for a vet visit! I never talked to a vet. They advised the doctor had to look at him. I asked do I get a report? How is he? They said no report just a visual inspection. I never agreed to this charge. I just paid it and left. My cat was wet, petrified and smelled horrible. I will never go back there for anything.
