I like this place, nice vibe and the barbers provide good service. However, it defeats the purpose of signing in if the barbers aren't going off the list. I had two people cut ahead of me and when I asked the barber to check the list, to let me know where I was on the list, he just looked at me like I wasn't making any sense. Again, service is great and I don't mind waiting, but if they aren't going to go off the check-in list then I will have to find a new barber. read more

Well, Im sure your thinking it and yes, the old adage, "You get what you pay for," definitely applies for this place. I normally went to Hair Cuttery or Super Cuts and ended up paying $20 with tip. I'm a guy. I figured it was worth a shot to check this place out and save $6 or $7. I get a normal haircut. Medium fade, finger width on top. My sister has a cosmetology license in Maryland. I'm well aware this style is not on the difficult or subjective end of the haircut spectrum. I tried this place the first time and was actually thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail the lady, Mrs.Young, provided. The haircut was very good. The only thing remotely dissatisfying was the wait time of about 40 minutes, but I surely won't complain for the price. I happily tipped $8 and was on my way. I had a good haircut and an extra $7 in my pocket. I decided to try them again about three weeks later. It was about the same wait time, again no complaints, but this time my hair was cut by a Ms. Dana "Banana". Not a nickname I gave, just one she wrote on her card. When I first sat down she asked how I wanted my hair cut and I replied, "Medium fade- One on the sides, finger width on top." She said, "That short on the sides, its like a cop haircut.... I dont like cops." I replied, "Well I'm not overly fond myself, but everyone has got a job." She began to cut my hair and didn't say anything for about a minute. Then she asked, "What do you do; your not a cop are you?" I'm not and truthfully answered her to which she said, "Oh I was worried maybe I shouldn't have said that, it could have been bad." Please note this is the caliber of person now cutting my hair. Through the time spend cutting she asked me the same prescript-ed, "So where do you live at?" FOUR TIMES... all verbatim. Near the end of this ordeal, I had the distinct impression she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. When finished, she gave me a mirror to look. It was wet and kinda combed forward. Think Justin Timberlake in the late 90's, just alot shorter in the front. It looked mediocre at best, but again its a $5 haircut and I wasn't about to complain to this women. I tipped her $7, because I am aware they work solely on tips, and I wont have felt right just stiffing her. I then left to go find my friend in the mall. When we met up, she said the hair cut looked crooked, and there were patches of hair still. Of course she laughed and I thought she was joking so I went to a bathroom to closer inspect..... My "Medium Fade" was in fact crooked. It was no where near an actual medium fade either. On the right side it STARTS directly UP from the outer edge of eyebrow. On the left, same except the MIDDLE of my eyebrow. There is also NO actual fade on the left. The only time its not very noticeable is when the hair is brushed to the center in, what I guess you would call, a "faux-hawk." There were also patches left around my ears and on my temple. She also only trimmed ONE of my sideburns. It wish this was an exaggeration, but this was literally the WORST HAIRCUT I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE. There was no point in returning, they couldn't uncut the hair she cut entirely too high and I wasn't going to argue for the tip back or a refund of the $5 I paid for the haircut. Even if they did return, it would almost justify as them fixing a situation, that couldn't be fixed. So I immediately went home and had my roommate help me fix it the best we could. This all happened last weekend. I've told the story now several times and decided I would share it with you guys too. Basically, I have this haircut my friends have now dubbed the "High and Fluffy", and I'm just waiting for it to grow out. I have included a picture taken today (just over a week later), just to show what we're working with here. So rememeber their slogan... Horrible butcher who butchered my hair, didn't blow/brush off my hair shavings, didn't comb/spray water on my hair or give me a comb/brush to comb my hair. Very rude Black Activist who had to be on drugs and ready for a fight. I told him that he butchered my hair and he said to me that, " That's what it looked like when you came in." The manager brushed off my hair I had to remove my shirt for her to get it all. I'm no actor or model and don't need to look like the butcher barber who got this job on the quota system. I asked the manager / owner who the owner was so that I could file a complaint and that's when she acted as though she did not understand English and got very angry so I left and will not go back. I urge everyone do not get their hair cut there. read more

Young was the MOST OBNOXIOUS hairdresser with a bad attitude that I have EVER had the misfortune to encounter. I went to this place with a hopeful attitude as I had read decent reviews about the hairdresser "Young". I showed her the picture of the haircut that I liked and she got annoyed and said something like "not for you" Her English is extremely poor so I thought I would just see how things went. She proceeded to cut my hair and mid way through pointed to an entirely different picture because she has chosen a different style for me!!! Not at all what I had asked for!!! She then proceeded to shout, yes SHOUT at me, but because I couldn't understand her, she went even louder! So I went home with a totally different haircut, and a painful experience from a hairdresser who shouted at me. I simply sat and cried. Never, ever again will I enter the premises. read more

Went for the first time jan very long time and had "Young" trim my hair... She was so sweet and attentive to detail! I wasn't expecting much for it being $5 but she even washed and conditioned my hair ... Lots of other places charge for this... Not here! Very pleased and impressed as she took her time and made sure to capture all my ends ... Will be coming back! Five dollar hair cuts!! Yes it's only 5 bucks. But its hit or miss. Sometimes you get a good trim, other times I wish I went somewhere else. If the old guy cuts your hair it always looks bad. Idk why he still works here. I know a lot of people compliant about him. He smells like a walking ash try and every cut looks like a military cut. The owner is actually here pretty often which is good. I come every other week and I am saving hundreds every year. read more

Well 1st, let me start by saying that this used to be my family's favorite place for haircuts. My husband, son and father-in-law would all go at once and for the most part, got really good haircuts. Recently, they raised the prices from $5 to $10 for the same service, well actually it wasn't as good. They do still the $5 on Tues. and Wed. I believe. My husband felt rushed ( he has fairly short hair) and my son, well he likes to spike his hair, and we told him that and it is still so long, that I can't spike it. They also stopped playing the music inside and overall it just seemed dismal compared to what it used to be. I hope they get it worked out because I won't go back if they don't. read more

I have been using Kurt to cut my "pixie" haircut for a couple of years now. He is fast and does an EXCELLENT job for me, each and every time ! I always tip him well, because anywhere else, a cut will cost close to $15-$20 or more, even without the tip. Please remember to generously tip these folks ! They do NOT get a "salary." Rating this place was hard because I've always gotten a good haircut there, especially for the price. My dig is this: I have never ever EVER gotten the same stylist twice. Here's how it goes: Get a good (or great) haircut, go back in 5 or 6 weeks, and you're told, "So-and-so doesn't work here anymore." So... where are all these good operators going? SEND ME THERE INSTEAD! I'll blame (partially) the clientele for the huge turnover. Tipping 50 cents, and, yes, I'VE SEEN A LOT OF CHEAPOS DO IT, is completely inappropriate (not to mention F-ing insulting), despite the low price of the cut. Fifty cents... it ain't 1967, people! So, if you care to walk in and throw the dice that you'll be as luck as I used to be (with seven different stylists and seven very good cuts!), this is the place to go. Rose is the best hair cutter. Very good. Been there two times...it is not a spa but Rose does such a job with cuts and touch up for a great price. Only issue is some of the other stylists spent way too much time gossiping. Don't need to hear their work frama, get enough at my own job. read more

I got my haircut by Madelyn, who's the owner of the place and she did a great job. The price is excellent considering the economy and you get a professional cut worth more at other salons. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair which now makes me look a lot younger than my age, so thank you Madelyn for a nice cut. read more

If you are a guy, then $5 hair cut is fine, my husband always gives another $5 for tip. However, if you are a woman and need more than a hair cut, you have to be very careful. I had my roots color today, the sign said $25, but the lady name Young charged me $30. I was ok to pay $5 extra. But at the end she said the total was $55, I was shocked and asked why. Young explained blow dry hair is additional $25. Can anyone believe this? I told her it was ridiculous. She should have told me up front that the blow dry cost $25, that way I could decide to have it done or not. It was unethical to deceive customers like that. I was so upset. All I can say is this is the worst place to go I laugh about it now but I went in for a shape up I had that gut feeling something was going to happen and it did they are unprofessional they butchered my hair I didn't even want a hair cut just a casual touch up more like just some neck hair and he took it all the way up almost two inches of my hair line in the back I still can't believe it it was the worst experience in my life I'm so glad hair grows back but it sucks to see your hair messed up I'm a clean cut guy so it really hurt. All I can say if you don't like somebody or need to get revenge on someone send them there to get a haircut and you will laugh your ass off . I'm sorry but this had to be written so you won't make the same mistake as I did I actually had to go to a other salon to fixed up this is not about the money it's about saving your hair lol so you won't go thru the same embarrassment as I did take this advice and just go somewhere else and if you don't believe me try it out and prove me wrong like I said I didn't even want a haircut all it was suppose to be was a nice shape up so the back of my neck would be nice and clean cut so I could just imagine what would have happened if I told him to trim it a little I'm so glad I didn't that would have been the worst mistake of my life read more

Not the best barbers in town but certainly the best value for the money. Quite clean, not much waiting, and my barber had a nice attitude. I would visit them again. Note that they charge 95 cents more if paid with a credit or debit card. read more
