Minneapolis moving services are some of the most expensive anywhere I've experienced. I hope that simply means that MN companies pay their labor well. We paid $1365 + $180 tip (optional, but come on) for a 3-man crew at $260/hr (2-hour minimum), and we obviously also provided snacks and drinks (they declined breakfast). For comparison, in San Francisco it was $250/hr for 5 men. The rate was with both the weekday discount and winter pricing. Weekend would have been $285/hr for 3 men, and $345 for 4 men. There was no trip fee. Robert, in particular was incredible; he moved a 6 drawer dresser down a tight stairwell alone. They needed to remove the front door at one point, but did so without issue. They also were happy to use our own furniture pads and plastic wrap (leftover from a cross-country move). At one point, they had to back the huge truck through the alley on icy ground, and had no problems. Also, it was easy to provide them inventory by email, and easy to reach them by phone. Lots of moving companies were annoying to contact, which is partly why we chose this one. One a few minor issues: one piece of furniture was shedding pieces of wood. I think they were reinforcements put on by previous owners. I didn't even know they were there, and it doesn't seem to have affected the furniture. They also forgot a couple of items in the yard, including a big smoker we had to move on our own. It's partly my fault, I told them we were good to go. Also, we were made to sign a lot of paperwork, and at various points it was for things like "you confirm that nothing is broken and everything has arrived" and, like, it's weeks later and I'm still unpacking, there is no way I would have known for sure. It's fine, because so far we have had no issues, but if someone did have issues it might feel like being strong-armed via contract. The guys in the truck were just doing their jobs, so it's the process that is problematic more than anything. We would use these guys again!

They wrapped items in blankets then plastic wrap to keep safe or just plastic to keep drawers in place. They even moved and loaded all the extra random items like packages of toilet paper and a bag of canned food. At the new place they laid down rugs and plastic to protect the floor as they moved items in. They made sure furniture was placed in the area we wanted and even helped adjust as needed. I hired movers in Minneapolis and loaded up the truck. Four days later, u-pack arrived with my stuff ready for my Washington DC movers to unload it. If I had one complaint (I don't, but /if/ I did,), it would be that u-pack won't help you on the other end of the transaction. If you're moving to a suburb or a place with a loading dock, you're 100% fine. I was moving into the city and needed to have parking for this semi, which proved very difficult since I didn't yet live in the city. Even so, U-Pack worked with me to find a visible solution and ended up storing my items on the truck for a few extra days until my parking permits could take effect. Final comment on this: on what was already a very challenging and stressful move, their dispatchers and drivers were a 6/5 stars. They were so nice and patient. I told one dispatcher the problem with parking and she said "you sound so stressed, sweetie. Don't worry, we'll find you a solution. Welcome to DC." I seriously would have hugged her through the phone if I could have.

I asked them to pick it up at the end of the day (which they said they'd try but couldn't guarantee it) and it came at 10am - yikes I wasn't ready! He was very pleasant and called me several times to make sure I got the quote, if I had questions and eventually he matched our lowest bid from Matt's Moving. In hindsight I wish I had gone with Matt's Moving. I had a couple of friends that recently paid less than 1k to move a 5 bedroom house. I was quotes $1100 from Matt's Moving and Scott from AAA told me they could do it for $1100-$1600. I asked why the $1600, and he said he didn't think it would take that long and that it would be closer to the $1100. All they had to do was pick up my stuff from an inside storage facility. My unit was 10'x25', but I only filled 10'x20'. I moved all of my stuff without breaking anything in 3hrs to this facility back in the summer. My 18 yr old son helped the 3 guys from AAA. He ended up carrying more than half our belongings to the truck while the 3 guys sat on their phones, drank Gatorade and took their sweet ole' time. The moved like sloths. The longer they take the more money they get because you pay by the hour. They wrap ever piece of furniture with plastic and/or furniture pads and tape them up like mummy's. So on the bright side your furniture is well protected, but it is totally overkill. So keep that in mind, they will wrap everything and take their sweet ole time doing it. So I would recommend getting your own furniture pads and wrapping it yourself. one hour of the movers labor would more than pay for your supplies and then some. 4.5 hours later they finally finished loading the truck, but they couldn't get everything, so my son had to pack his car. why...because they bring all of this crap in their truck including a 4'x4'x4' box filled with their supplies...so keep that in mind too. They even left even more of their supplies at storage facility of which I got a nasty call from telling me they were going to charge me for all the stuff they left behind. AAA didn't sweep out my unit, my son did that too while they sat on the truck. Clearly one of the guys never had done this before because he was totally lost. Then the came to my house...nope...they went for lunch. Even though I told them not too. When they finally arrived at my home I only had them bring a few items in the house...about 5 things total and decided to do the rest myself. But they unpacked all of the rest into my garage. But did they do it neatly...nope! They placed furniture and boxes all over, I had to move stuff just to get the furniture out, it was a mess. SO I called AAA and asked what they were going to do about these lazy, worthless movers and very unprofessional workers they sent. They told me they never got a call like this before but from reading the other reviews here it appears this is a common experience. They charged my almost $1600. Then the following day they charged me another $260...I was livid! Worst experience, and the absolutely worse movers. Just so you understand my stuff came from a 2 bedroom 1600sf townhome...so you can see it wasn't even even close to moving a 5 bedroom house...and I moved it out of my townhome and into the facility in 3 hrs. When they finally left they took almost 8hrs...and didn't move hardly anything into my new home. And yes they broke something, and did they clean it up...nope...my son did!
