We decided to get some help with replacing our bathtub, doing a new tile surround, and replacing the toilet. The final product is amazing. The tile work was very carefully done, and James consulted us with design decisions along the way that we hadn't considered. He offered his opinion based on other bathrooms he'd done and kept us updated on progress and next steps. We definitely plan to use James again for some future projects.

As a first time homeowner I was concerned about hiring someone to work on my house. I probably interviewed about 10 people before choosing James. He even provided references when I asked for them. I'm so glad I went with my gut and hired James. My first project with him was a wall addition which he executed perfectly and on time. My second, and much larger project, was a complete remodel of my front porch and balcony. As a woodworker myself (and with a father who was a contractor) I was worried that whoever I hired wouldn't have the attention to detail that I was looking for. But James met those expectations and exceeded them. Take a look at the photos and you'll see what I mean (those corners line up so well on the porch steps, it looks like art to me).

I hired him to do a complete remodel of a townhouse I own. I took out the kitchen and removed the wall between the kitchen and eating area. This required moving the electrical panel into the wall in the master bedroom. Greg recommended a master electrician Brian Martinez (indicted now for fraud) who he highly recommended. He came over & moved the electrical panel. I told him I would be adding under cabinet lighting and some additional pendant lights. He agreed to do this and of course had to wait until the cabinets were installed to finish the work and get everything running again. He quoted me $1400 to do all the work and asked me to pay him and he would return when the cabinets were installed. Brian returned to hook up the pendant lights but they wouldn't work. He asked for an additional $800, I refused and said I would pay him if he could explain why the additional cost. He came back 2 more times and each time said he had to leave to get some things at HDepot. He never returned the 2nd time and never did another thing to complete the work. After that I hired an electrician I picked and he took a month to diagnose the previous work & undo the items that were not to code in the house to the tune of $1500. Greg installed white oak flooring that had been acclaimating for 3 months in the home. The floors were sanded & looked great. I didn't get the opportunity to view after the finish was applied as they were covered to protect them. Greg did additional work replacing the entire bathroom down to the studs. I ordered high end body sprayers 2 shower heads a divert-er valve w/handle that controlled where the water would go & a spigot for the tub, it came as a set. Greg did the plumbing & installed a new tub, toilet, sink, heated floors etc. It was beautiful except the divert-er valve didn't turn off the tub to direct it to the body sprayers & shower head. Greg didn't read the instructions so plumbed it wrong. I hired a master plumber to open the wall in the bedroom that backed to the plumbing to hopefully get it fixed. This wall had been opened before when Greg was doing the work and the electrical wiring was exposed. 2 wires had been spliced together were taped together with electrical tape NO JUNCTION box was used. Greg saw this and never addressed it when he had the wall open the first time to do the plumbing. About this time I was getting concerned about the loud popping of my floors so I took up the paper in the master to look at what was happening only to find the floors had separated, the nails were popping out of the sub floor & the finish was full of dirt. They felt like sand paper. Greg said he forgot to turn off the furnace before putting on the finish so the dirt was blown all over the floor, they looked and felt horrible! I was getting very concerned with his work at this point as he kept asking for more & more money. There were more & more issues so I became hesitant to pay him any additional money. I had ordered new windows through Greg who said he knew how to install them so no need to hire a window company. I paid him for the windows and the work to install. It took him over 5 months to almost complete the work when Greg announced that Alside windows made a mistake!! Huh, how could they do that, well they didn't, Greg mismeasured the window so I had to order 2 more windows. Greg took the ones that didn't fit and put them in his van and never returned. I called Alside to get another window contractor to measure the last 2 windows and install them. I was referred to Caliber windows who came out, installed them and told me every window had been installed wrong and would have to be reinstalled at an additional $200 per window! The granite contractor, Sam who shares store space with Greg did an awful job on the granite and never completed the work. He was also paid & never returned so another $800 I hire a new one. I had to have the floor surface completely refinished & a great deal of the new texture job Greg did had to be redone. Greg is a master at selling you on his work & ability but BEWARE he is usually over committed and the quality of his work and attention to detail & ability to finish on time is extremely poor. He used to be very good at this as I hired him to do my personal home in 2005-2006, when he did wonderful work that was the reason I hired him this time. I will never again recommend him or hire him. If you make this mistake get everything in writing in great detail as he will not give you a detailed written quote, just verbal & it changes along the way. I have lots of pictures of this project & documentation. I am still contemplating going to court to regain some of the money I spent. He was paid $26,000 for his labor I bought everything else with a credit card.

He communicated well on any changes, delays, or issues. At the time we were building there were several supply chain issues, so we had to make some changes along the way. Travis always provided an alternative or solution anytime we needed to make a change. The house turned out beautiful! We are very happy with our custom home.

I would recommend Baker Builders to friends, as it is unusual to find contractors who do what they say they will do on time and an budget. I was particularly impressed with their ability to finish our project on time. They even finished ahead of schedule. When has that ever happened on a project? This was the first for me. All of their subcontractors were professional and efficient. It has been over 6 months since they completed the work, and we have had zero problems. At the beginning of the project I was hesitant to spend the money on a contractor, but I am so glad I did. Travis did an excellent job of managing the project. There is no way a random homeowner like me would be able to queue up subcontractors and keep a project running so smoothly. From start to finish, the entire project was done in about 6 weeks. Had I attempted to do this on my own, it would have been more like 18 months. The also handled all of the permits and inspections smoothly. Well worth the reasonable price they were paid, and the result is dramatically higher quality. Thank you Travis, Jay, and everyone else at Baker. Job well done.
