Honestly, Binny's could save a ton of money by just installing self-checkout machines. At least the robots wouldn't roll their eyes or sigh like you've asked them to file your taxes. Then there's the armed security -- they look more like they just finished doing a robbery than preventing one. I don't even feel safer with them around; it's more like shopping inside a crime documentary. And don't get me started on the parking lot -- it's a total nightmare. At night it feels sketchy, like the kind of place you might get stuck up just walking to your car. Maybe Binny's should focus on improving that experience too, because honestly, it's not that hard to just drive to the South Loop location instead. I really miss the old Binny's that used to be on the corner of 53rd in the Hyde Park Bank building -- that place was intimate, welcoming, and the staff were actually helpful and friendly. This new location, on the other hand, constantly gives you that feeling like someone's watching over your shoulder, waiting for you to steal something. I'm sure theft happens here -- but maybe take a cue from Target. They handle it quietly and strategically, without making every paying customer feel like a suspect. I get home use the charger to charge battery then go to use pen and light comes on but no heat. I go back and tell them it stopped working after this and he proceeds to blame me saying the chamber is clogged and got burnt out cause I dont clean it. I clean it regularly and only reason it had residue is cause it stopped working and they try to sell me another one instead of taking the $20 hit and keeping loyal customer. Oh well.

As a resident of the downtown area, this shop was my go to for different odds and ends, typically every few months. Over the years, I've noticed the jump in prices but attributed it to the renovations made to the shop. With Covid slowing down business, I understood the money had to be made up somewhere, and so I let things slide. After all, neighborhood shops like this are at risk...which is why they should treat and charge their customers fairly. A few days ago, I visited the shop and was quoted 3x the normal price I've been paying for the item. I was flabbergasted and thought maybe I heard the rep incorrectly. I didn't. Needless to say, I left, drove up the street to another shop and found what I needed at a fair price. Later, after reading other reviews, I realized that I wasn't the only one with a poor customer experience. In closing, I'm ALL for supporting small businesses but not when they introduce tactics like price gouging. Their decision to do so could very well explain why the shop is seemingly always empty.
