Then second appt was only one for that week. Need to be seen regularly for any benefits. Then they were trying to bill me my copay twice. Healthworks, Corning, NY Earlier this year I was having a…read moreproblem with my blood sugar being out of control. I made an appointment with Guthrie Endocrinology where I was told I couldn't get into an endocrinologist for 9 months and advised I get counseling in the interim. I was referred to Healthworks. I sat down with a consular who gave me some tips on how to lose weight and change my diet. The initial session was 1 hour long with the latter 15 minutes showing me recipes etc. The subsequent 2nd visit was going over everything I did wrong since I lost a whole 1/2 lb. This time running out of things to talk about, so just showing me websites. I realized I wasn't getting the help I needed and went to Southern PA for a more knowledgeable person, which I then lost 33 lbs. I then cancelled the rest of the visits. The problem is I was charged over $1200 for these 2 visits, which showed up in my eguthrie account. My insurer (BCBS) flagged these 2 visits and did not pay most of this, leaving me with the charges. Initial visit was $673.00 and second was $550.00. I am contending these visits are simply not worth this and excessively charged, and why did I need an hour for the visit? So look out, my insurer paid about ¼ of these charges. Lastly, the billing was done in an obscure way, listing this as therapy for an entirely different doctor. Never mentioning Healthworks nor counseling, nor the name of this counselor, opting to call it therapy with an endocrinologist.

Classes for MMA/Boxing and other martial arts occur 3 times a week, and each class is roughly an hour long. As far as instruction goes, there is 1-2 instructors, depending on their availability. Most of the hour is spent going through drills, with the last 15 minutes or so dedicated to either light sparring or a conditioning drill. The classes aren't bad, as most of the students attending are beginners, but there is a sense of constant repetition throughout each session. That could be a good thing, or a bad, depending your actual level of skill. It seems that Titan also used to be twice the size. Now, it has been cut in half due to the other side now being LionHeart CrossFit. That, and there probably was a cut in the number of students attending class. Nonetheless, it is decently priced, as other martial arts classes in cities cost well over $100. As far as the gyms that you get with you paid membership, well they're worth about $10. I wouldn't pay much more than that because all the equipment is old, and the places just kind of smells. LionHeart is better than North Club, but the equipment at Penn State's facilities is just much better. The only positive thing is that it doesn't get crowded like Penn State's facilities.

I had the chance to workout a couple of times at New Image while in the area for business. One of…read morethe things that's pretty tricky being on the go is finding a good gym to get a quality workout in. I can say that I had a good lifting experience here at New Image, and I'm a fan. Now, it's not the latest, state of the art type of place. In fact, the equipment may have a bit of wear and tear, if not the walls themselves, etc. as well. But that's why I like this place. It's not pristine, it's gritty. It's more what comes to mind when you tell a lifter that a gym is "hardcore." Good solid equipment, that while it may not be the newest and shiniest, it does the job well. The upstairs has some cardio equipment, Hammer Strength and other machines, some free weight dumbbells with some sizeable weight, and a dedicated cage area. Downstairs, it is more dedicated to powerlifting type lifting and more free weight area including more dumbbells also. The steady crash of someone pounding out deadlifts can be heard from down there usually (at least my couple of visits). Iron plates...man I love a gym that uses iron plates instead of the rubber type replacements you see most places now. It's not super cooled AC filled, in fact you'll work up a good sweat there while one or two industrial floor fans help circulate the air. Good solid workout environment. The people in New Image were great, both staff and fellow lifters. The staff I encountered were friendly, helpful, and positive. A good number of the other lifters said a friendly hello or even asked where I was from (I guess my accent gives it away, of course). It felt like a good camaraderie existed there, another plus in my book. Bottom line: If you are looking for hardcore gym environment and a good all-around great place to get your workout in, New Image can provide it. While it's not a shiny day spa-like gym, it's got what it takes in both equipment and atmosphere as well as interaction to make your lifting experience there a good one. I'm a fan, as four Yelp stars denotes.
