Came in from out of town for the holidays and wanted to continue training in BJJ while I was home…read more I went here with 2 of my friends who had never done BJJ who wanted to try it out. The facility is very spacious. There's a main training area and then another smaller room with mats and workout equipment for other classes or free rolling. The place is also extremely clean and the vibe is great. If you've been to a martial arts academy with a bad vibe you will know what I mean, but this place is nothing but positive. The woman at the front desk was very helpful and got us situated with a 10 day trial and my friends with rental gi's. We were then greeted by the head coach John Ingallina who is the embodiment of a professional. He is extremely welcoming, kind, professional, and explained the whole Gracie Combatives system to us. During class he was great at explaining the techniques being taught, and made good work of going to each person and ensuring they did it right. As an out of towner I was completely welcomed by the staff and other class members. I 100% would recommend this, and have done so to my 2 friends who I am very close to.

The team/instructors do a thorough job to ensure that even first timers starting out their jiu jitsu journey are welcomed with open arms. At the end of my first class everyone made sure to introduce themselves and ask what got me interested to sign up. I highly recommend for those looking for their next physical and mental feat!

I never write reviews but I need to in this case. Tai Kai is unlike a traditional gym, where you…read morepay your money, get your lessons or workout in, then go home. At Tai Kai you leave with so much more. Not only do you get top level training from the original BJJ school in CNY who has the most black belts around, but you also gain a new family, community, a home away from home where everybody knows your name (like Cheers, but without the alcohol). I couldn't be more sincere when I say you earn a new family. And this was evident when my 5 year old son (who also trained at Tai Kai) was diagnosed with brain cancer. Ken, the owner and my friend the past 10 years, put together a fund raiser at the gym to help raise money for my son and the upcoming medical costs. The turnout was huge and was more than I would've ever expected. Ken and everyone else at the gym checks on My son all the time, asking how he's doing and I wish I can bring him into the gym so he could get to see everyone who cares about him. Others had dropped of food for us, donated toys, clothes...etc to help relieve our burden. The 10 years I've spent training Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, and mma at Tai Kai; the blood and sweat, the physical rigors and soreness from a great workout....it's all been worth it to be able to be part of a family and community that had my back in the most difficult time of me and my family's life. Thank you Ken and Tai Kai for being the best around.

GREAT PLACE TO TRAIN BJJ WITH GREAT PEOPLE!!!…read more I've been coming here for a little more than a month and I've gotta say, this is the place to train BJJ in Syracuse. Diego, the head instructor, is a great guy who genuinely cares about each of his students. Another big plus is there are multiple black belts who train here and they are always willing to go above and beyond to share their knowledge. Whether you want to compete, or just do Jiu jitsu recreationally, there is something here for everyone. I think he even has kids classes. As a brand new student, walking into a BJJ school can be a bit intimidating. Diego and his students go out of their way to make you feel welcome and like you're part of the team from the moment you first step foot on the mat. I've checked out a few other gyms in the past and can't help like feeling the entire room gets that "fresh meat" vibe when a new student comes in. At Diego's school there is none of that. It is a completely positive place and everyone there helps each other improve. I'm completely addicted to BJJ now, and Diego & his team are directly responsible for that. Going to SAS is definitely one of the best decisions I've ever made. My BJJ game has improved tremendously in the short time I've been here and I have no doubts yours will too. Come check it out for yourself, you won't be let down!
