The biggest downside of this place though is that there must be a lot of irresponsible dog owners come and visit with their Fidos. Nice evening for my mini picnic. There has always been something about small towns for me , the friendliness of the locals, and this park fit that description. The park was small, clean, with benches, picnic tables and a small little gazebo. As I arrived, there were people gathered near the gazebo, looked like from a local church, a choir practice; thanks to them, the difficulty of eating dinner without my mom, and the music provided a great comfort, for a happy/sad day for me. If you find yourself not wanting to eat in a resturant, always check on YELP or google for a local park, as one never knows the serenity youll find in a small town park.

We camped at Newtown Battlefield State Park for three nights over the Memorial Day weekend and it…read morewas good. The north campsite (tent camping site) was at the end of the looped road and it was quite with no other regular traffics. The maximum capacity would be about 10. There were plenty of shades in the campsite, but lots of caterpillars coming down from the trees. We did not see any mosquitoes until the very last day. My neighbor camper told me that he saw a few ticks on his dog, so yes, ticks on this campsite. The bathroom was kept clean and well maintained. Hot water is available in the bathroom for shower. The ranger/facility manager Tori was extremely friendly, responsive and informative. She drove by to check on the campers early in the morning as well as around evening daily. Woods were $5 per bundle and it was one of the generous place I have ever purchased woods for campfire. Each bundle came with at least 20 good sized of woods! Overall this State Park was very quite and slow traffic, great for family with little kids so the little kids could run around without worrying about being hit by cars.

There are some truly beautiful old trees here and I really enjoyed the old woods part of the property down the hill. It was very quiet and peaceful and the land has certainly retained it's natural beauty. I was sad the nature center was closed, I always love a good nature center. I'm glad we visited this place it has a lot to offer from trails, the nature center, local art work in the woods, a pond to enjoy the scenic views, and the peace and beauty of nature. There is a map at the main parking lot that makes it easy to figure out where you are going and trails are marked with paint on tree trunks. It is the perfect spot to hike for a few miles with your dog after work. So grateful this beautiful hiking area is so close to town!

The Corning Glass Company is in the City of Corning, and still has its HQ here today. They maintain a great museum here that allows visitors to see the glass being made as well as the history of it all and to make a purchase or two if they would like. The museum has glass from as far back as you can imagine, they have done their homework and have a very all encompassing collection. They have a library to complement that collection and on any given day you will see students here using that library. The city has a nice commercial district, mostly made out of brink now since a fire destroyed it in the past. Its a pleasant place to walk in nice weather, and while they can get snow in winter, the rest of the year tends to be lovely here. I often come here with visitors to the WNY area. The museum is always a hit. They share their schools with the City of Painted Post, just next door.
