    great location

Nice location and great prices - Food is hit'n'miss We were looking for a nice place that allows to bring dogs. This one here does and even has a great location by the sea. It's right below the Restaurant 55 North, but has a different menu. We ordered some beers while waiting for a table - the place was packed. After about 30' we were seated (outside because of our doggy). It was a bit cold, but most of the wind was blocked by some windows and there were heaters too. Menus cost between 10£ and 19£. That does also include a starter and a dessert. So, prise-wise it's a pretty cool place. There are chicken, fish, vegetarian and meat items on the list. So pretty much something for everybody. We ordered some fishcakes and Garlic Bread for starters, a seafood platter and a Burger for the main and cake and ice cream for the dessert. Some more beer and cider to got with. The food was pretty average. Nothing really stood out, nothing was really wrong. All a bit plain though. Seafood tasted fresh, portions were good sized. The place itself is nice with its great location and it's fun to have dinner here. Atmosphere was good. Service tried their best, but it's just too many guests for that small amount of waitresses and waiters, very friendly though. It's a place to have a fun night out. Not much for the food. But given the prices, the whole package deal here is still an attractive one. You won't leave hungry.

Looking for a table for a party of 6. We rang to a bunch of restaurants but decided we would go to 55° North. When we rang we were told we could book a table which was great. We didn't book at the time and later the same day as we walked by the restaurant, we decided that we would walk in and book our table. While in the restaurant the female sever approached us and told us that we could not book in the restaurant face to face and that we should ring and book... this in itself is a complete joke. We left the restaurant and while standing outside the premises, we rang the restaurant and booked our table. What a pointless inconvenience... The service in here is shocking!!! We waited 30mins for drinks. I ordered the surf and turf and what I got was a real disappointment and I really don't think I got value for money in anyway. I had a small dollop of mash, piece of steak, 3 small crab claws and 3 prawns. For £23 this was pretty disappointing. This is the 3rd time we have had food here and each time we remain hopeful that service and food would improve. Sadly it hasn't, we definitely won't be back.

This is a lovely restaurant/cafe. The views out the panoramic window look out onto the Atlantic Ocean and it is an absolutely spectacular view, especially on a sunny day like today. I had a steak sandwich with wedges which was delicious. My girlfriend had seafood chowder which she very much enjoyed. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The drinks were a bit poor. Flat Coke with no ice. The service was friendly and pleasant.

Great view, good service, good wine and good food! Only four stars because the bathroom is two circular flights of stairs down from the restaurant. The stairs lead to another door into a dark hallway to the restrooms. It felt a bit sketchy. I sure hope that's not the only restroom. What about disabled patrons?

    Marvelous dinner menu!

Traveling on holiday with my daughter and a friend. Our B&B owner recommended we try this place for a lunch since we were hungry from the days travels. We are sooooooo very glad she did! Truly excellent service (Thanks Jordana!), delicious food, and a beautiful view of the ocean! I had the seafood chowder myself, and my daughter and friend laughed at me for my involuntary 'mmmm' every time I took a bite. It had such a delicate and deep flavor. I could not stop eating! Do not hesitate to give this place a try!

Eating at 55 Degrees North, the early bird menus were great, very large portion s, have returned several times and told friends

We were sat at a lovely table by a staff member and given menus. We looked it over and waited and waited.... No one came to the table. We learned 30 minutes later that we had to go order at a bar, and that no one actually takes your order. It wasn't clear, because there were no signs, instructions, and waiters were bringing food to the tables. We then hungrily joined a standing line to order. A waitress told us to move forward to an open spot to order, only to find that the spot was not in fact ready for a new order. We waited in that spot for so long that 4 parties ordered before us, that were behind us in line. They ordered at the register that we originally were in line for. No one acknowledged us, no clear order was advertised. It was SO weird! So we finally order, and after a very expensive bill for the food that we ordered, we were told to wait standing until the drinks were made. We needed to walk the drinks back to our table. We waited and waited, while they took other people's orders. After while, a staff member showed us that the drinks were waiting for us, ice melted, and no one told us. Ugh. We go back to the table. Many tables around us ate and are leaving, as they seem to rush people in and out. We wait for 40 minutes and our food isntvthere. We ask about it, and right away, someone else's order shows up. It's not our food. We bring it to attention of the server, and they take it away. After a while our food arrives. The dishes were good, drinks ok. The service seemed like they tried to be friendly but it was such a disorganized crap show that they might not have realized how bad it really was. My family wanted to shop after but we were so ready to leave the area, we just took off. Bad experience, wish we tried another recommendation. We spent a lot of time, a lot of money, and really felt taken advantage of.

But the food we ordered was worth feeling so full because it was wicked good. Located on Strand Road in downtown Derry, outside the City Walls, Browns in Town has a modern interior with brown wood walls in the primary dining area and a little postmodern-styled lounge in the front entrance. The vibes are fairly relaxed where you don't feel you have to dress up outside of jeans and a shirt to enjoy a meal. The food per our experience is certainly that of comfort and quality. One aspect my wife and I loved about Browns in Town, and many of the restaurants we visited in Northern Ireland and the Republic, is that on the menu we know which dishes are celiac friendly or have a celiac option, and note all the allergens present -- e.g., gluten, shellfish, dairy, eggs, nuts, etc. My wife is celiac, so this allowed us to choose this restaurant since it offers many gluten-free options -- and not just salad. Both of us ordered the local seafood chowder (I had the gluten version, while she had the celiac option), which was creamy, buttery, and delicious, loaded with a variety of seafood caught in the area and served with homemade bread. The Mushroom & Black Garlic Risotto was out of this world, with the pine nuts and parmesan providing a nice balance with primary ingredients -- also luscious and rich. The chefs cooked the risotto to perfection. I probably was fine just ordering that, as the black garlic chips (fries to us Americans) were overkill, but I couldn't help myself being at a restaurant for the first time in a city I have never visited before. My wife had the beer-battered cod in the gluten-free option and incredibly tasty, especially when combined with the mushy peas and tartar sauce. We didn't even attempt to order dessert because we were full to the point of being in a food coma. Fortunately, we had a lot of walking around ahead of us, which helped work off our meal a little. But I would absolutely return to enjoy some of the other fares they have on the menu.

Food was so high quality and delicious. My pork was cooked perfectly which is a difficult thing to…read moredo.
