Half eaten cod from fish and chips combo meal.
    Christina S.

Just do it! I love fish and chips and was so excited to get the real thing. I've had fish and chips from the walk-up stands in small British towns, so I was a little skeptical when I walked into this place and it looked like a fast food place, but it didn't disappoint. The was the perfect mix of grease and crisp. The outside was crispy and the fish fell apart as you bit into it. The chips we're good, but the star is definitely the cod. So satisfying! The service was pleasant and the transaction was easy. There are only three tables inside, but we able to get a seat on a Saturday in March around 2pm without any issues. Highly recommend if you are in the area and craving fish and chips.

Not sure what we got but it was a lot of fish, and an abundance of fries. We've been in Scotland and Ireland for about 8 days or so, and have eaten fish and chips about 6 times. This had to be our least favorite. Batter / crust too thick, flavor of coating was that if a deep fryer seeming to need a refresh of oil. The service was decent, however all of our entrees were delivered to another table who ordered well after us, with one of the people hand delivering our food across the aisle to us. TWICE! Minimal tartar sauce provided, after asking for it... could've gotten more I suspect, but wonder who would've received it (humor intended). Place was empty when we arrived very quiet, either a lingering grease smoke in the room. Way too warm inside, with little to no ventilation. Stuffy is a good description. Last note.... The two orders rang up at over $38 / £29. Too expensive for a small town joint, with not the best flavor. IMO. I took no photos, not worth it.

We enjoyed the appetizer of Guinness and onion soup and the Inn's bread but they weren't as special as the menu descriptions made them out to be: the whiskey and smoked cheese roll was hard to tell either of those flavors but the butter and pesto were very good. The soup was fine but I guess we had high expectations for it to be better than your average French onion soup. Again for entrees I think the menu descriptions built up our expectations but everything seemed even more bland than the apps. The BAHARAT SPICE RUMP OF IRISH LAMB was cooked well but was pretty flavorless even with the hummus and sauce and the lamb fat potato stack just soft potato. The unique piccolo peppers were the only thing that provided some pop to the dish- maybe it wasn't seasoned properly? The filet with the Bushmills whiskey black pepper cream and roast mushroom tomato and rocket was seasoned a little better but the cream was lacking some punch. Good but not great. It all sounds good but doesn't feel like elevated cooking especially for the price. Finally the desserts were split. We ordered a shot of the Bushmills 10 yr to go with the butterscotch sundae which made the sundae perfect. Without it I'm thinking way too sweet. The milk and honey delice was disappointing. We ate the ganache and left the rest. The crust had a strange herb like flavor that was very unappealing.

We came in, very hungry, after a tour at the distillery, and very cold due to the arctic gale force winds that let smacking us! Once inside, we considered just moving in! The place is literally at the entrance to the Giants Causeway visitors center parking lot. It's a cute, rustic (like every other building in the area) building with equally quaint interior that trends towards a pub with a subtle nautical theme. Darker woods, lighter walls, a nice bar and several rooms that lead into each other, but seem very separate. The vibe is perfect! They've got plenty of Irish pub fare, most of which is hot - a key piece of info as most fingers were fighting for feeling at this point. We ordered Steak and Guinness pie, fish pie, fish and chips, a couple scones and Irish Stew. Ravenously hungry, we tackled this beastly lunch and all left full and warm. The scones were closer to biscuits, but were probably the best we've had in the country - and my better half loves her some scones! The food came out quick - the place was crazy busy and it still took less than 10 minutes. By the time we were done, we wondered if we could just stow away in the basement and live off the scones and cream! Parking was best done in the visitors center parking lot so make sure you're coming out here where you've already paid for the trip out to the coastline. The was exactly what we hoped it would be and exactly what we were looking for on this typical Irish spring day!

Two people working the front, one was the food runner, one worked the bar, who also took orders, cashed you out, poured your drink, etc. Make sure to grab a table before you get in line to order, as you'll need your table number. It took a while to order, as there was a long line. We got the following: - soup and sandwich combo - Traditional Iris Stew - Steak & Guinness Pie It took about 15 minutes to get our food, but only two of the three came out and the lamb stew I ordered was given to my family member, the food runner didn't say anything, just dropped it off and left. While waiting, other tables were getting their food, but we still haven't received our 3rd dish, so after 15 minutes of waiting went up to the bar to inquire, but the lady working there was gone. After waiting few minutes, she was now delivering the foods... wait few minutes, then went back to the table and our 3rd dish was there. The interior looked like it hadn't changed in years and the tables don't get cleaned often due to limited staff. I guess you can be thankful for being able to get some food and use the restroom. The food was decent, but things could be a lot more efficient, if they have one person taking orders, one person working the bar, few working to deliver the food and people cleaning up the tables. That would require a lot more staff than the numbers they had when we visited.

The Causeway Breakfast Grill includes everything in an Irish breakfast, lots of protein and a couple bits of carb: sausage, back bacon with a fried egg, chewy potato bread and yeasty soda farl, grilled tomato and mushrooms as well. Other options include pancakes, an okay smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, and surprisingly delicious milky Porridge. There's a Continental Breakfast buffet that's open to everyone, and it has all the staples. Cereal, yogurt, and toast are sprinkled with a sparse selection of fruit, and a few pastries that run out fast. The coffee is awful. I don't think anyone here knows how to make coffee. Make it in your room or just have a nice cup of tea. Most of the food is alright, though, things like the Roast Silverside of Beef Sunday can be quite bland. The beef is tough, the Yorkshire pudding is great, and the Brussels sprouts are steamed to a dreadful pulp. There's a caramelised onion and goat's cheese tartlet that's more like a quiche, filled with fluffy eggs and plenty of creamy cheese, and it makes a nice, light lunch. Fish and chips is always a good option, and the Open Steak Sandwich is my favorite thing by far. The McAtamney's rolled rump is quite tender and the peppercorn sauce is great, with a lot of fresh black pepper for flavor. Afternoon Tea is only for two so if you're dining solo, not only are you lonely, you also don't get tea. It's a fun selection, enjoyed the sausage roll and smoked salmon, and scones are always lovely. The cheesecake is freezer-burnt, but everything else is alright. If you want dessert, the Bushmills Pecan Nut Pie is the only one I tried, and I love it. It's basically a a pecan pie, but that happens to be my favorite pie, and they make a good one. The rooms have no refrigeration so you're mostly eating here if you don't want to drive elsewhere. The food is okay overall, but the prices are rather high compared to less touristy location.

The hotel has a very nice bar and sitting area, and if you're coming in with a group, it is ideal. However, the bar is really just a service bar, so if you're alone, you'll have to deal with sitting at a table, and perhaps taking up more space than you would like... Still, overall, it is a pretty good experience.

Been here several times for food after a day of trekking around Portrush…read more The one thing you are always guaranteed here is slow service. The biggest issue here is most of the food is made to order rather than having a steady supply of food ready. More often than not they are queued right out the door, again this is due to the person taking the orders disappearing after every order to do some seemingly imaginary task out the back, before returning to take the next order. They offer telephone orders so this also contributes to the extraordinary waiting time. Wanna beat the queue, ring your order through. The food here is just ok. I ordered the goujon special and when I got it home the chicken goujon a where actually closer to nuggets. Given the fact they were so small, I ate my right hand that night. Also the gravy is watery. I would suggest the cod goujons for a hearty feed. Overall the Dolphin is decent and the staff are polite and courteous, they called me "Sir". This pleased me, so I bumped them to 3 stars.

Surely the only civilised way to have it, no? The cod was firm and white and the batter suitably thick with a dash of grease. Perfect. The chips were not just so good and I fear they may have seen the deep fat fryer more that once, but hey, there are worse things in life to worry about. And I'm pleased to report that the two cost me a purse friendly £4. High fives to that. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I have cod and chips again? Darn right. But with a side of onion rings next time. Seriously though, the Dolphin does just what you expect it to - serve up lots of portions of fish and chips and pasties and sausages and onion rings. It's not sophisticated and I wouldn't recommend making eye contact with other customers late at night, but it hits the spot.
