So, this was one of the weirdest experiences we've had in a long time. We arrived right before opening and joined a queue, waiting to enter. We were sat at a lovely table by a staff member and given menus. We looked it over and waited and waited.... No one came to the table. We learned 30 minutes later that we had to go order at a bar, and that no one actually takes your order. It wasn't clear, because there were no signs, instructions, and waiters were bringing food to the tables. We then hungrily joined a standing line to order. A waitress told us to move forward to an open spot to order, only to find that the spot was not in fact ready for a new order. We waited in that spot for so long that 4 parties ordered before us, that were behind us in line. They ordered at the register that we originally were in line for. No one acknowledged us, no clear order was advertised. It was SO weird! So we finally order, and after a very expensive bill for the food that we ordered, we were told to wait standing until the drinks were made. We needed to walk the drinks back to our table. We waited and waited, while they took other people's orders. After while, a staff member showed us that the drinks were waiting for us, ice melted, and no one told us. Ugh. We go back to the table. Many tables around us ate and are leaving, as they seem to rush people in and out. We wait for 40 minutes and our food isntvthere. We ask about it, and right away, someone else's order shows up. It's not our food. We bring it to attention of the server, and they take it away. After a while our food arrives. The dishes were good, drinks ok. The service seemed like they tried to be friendly but it was such a disorganized crap show that they might not have realized how bad it really was. My family wanted to shop after but we were so ready to leave the area, we just took off. Bad experience, wish we tried another recommendation. We spent a lot of time, a lot of money, and really felt taken advantage of. read more

Disappointing Experience Restaurant was loud, chaotic, and unwelcoming. We ordered our food at a counter, and waited an excessively long time for the food to be delivered to our table. Food was good, but wasn't worth the unorganized confusion of it all. They had an amazing dessert counter, and like everything else here... was chaos trying to order desserts after our meal. The restaurant is in a beautiful location however the service and food were lack luster on their best day. In the span of two hours we were only able to get one order for drinks in after flagging someone down. On multiple occasions we asked for drinks for the table and never received them. Some food came out within minutes and for the remaining 5 dishes it took over an hour for the rest of food. Each time we asked for something we were treated like it was an inconvenience. The food itself was equivalent to airplane food and on multiple occasions they brought out the wrong order. The food is by no means worth the obscene cost. We would have been better off ordering take out from Dominos down the street and I recommend Dominos ten fold over this poor excuse for a restaurant. read more

Went there with my mum a month or so ago. We traveled up for a girly trip around Antrim coast and had heard great things about the place from a family friend. It blew my mind!!! Best place i have eaten in years. What I loved about it, was that it was modern and hipster fresh without being pretentious and intimidating. The view of the harbour at night was beautiful too. We sat in one of the high up booths. Loved the whole decor! Seems weird but they had these rele cute pictures of vegetables on the wall. If Their aubergine one was not nailed to the wall, it's possible I wud have hid it in my bag and ran! Hahah The food was packed full of flavour, technique and quality. Wow. So good. Exceeded my expectations. Bright and airy environment with a nautical theme. Amazing views. No kids in sight. Don't know if they have a no child policy. Staff are very knowledgeable about the food. Food came really fast. Between 3 shares churos for starter and duck and pancakes. So much food. I had small plate of garlic prawns for main. Went so well with the tomato and cheese bread. 3 of us shares 'a day at the beach' for desert. Think this is perhaps the best dessert I ever had. Blown away with the size and taste. So much food !!! Sincerely, there are only a few places to choose from to eat it in this area. Arriving in Portrush for a few days it was late and we were famished, grateful we had the chance to sit and eat. Yes, it's obvious why this place is recommended by the guidebooks... because it's the most modern eatery in town on the little bay with a view. You have to go to the bar to get your drinks. We were probably the last plates out... so my chicken was hard & dry but edible. The desserts were lovely and easy to pick from the lavish display of them. Although, the entire waitstaff seemed young & inexperienced. In the end, our meal was OK, our experience with service & assistance was lame. read more

After eating at the Ramore Wine Bar / Mermaid Restaurant I almost regret ever giving out a 5 star review before. I regret it simply because I wish I could highlight how unbelievable this place is. Out for a day trip to Portrush, I decided to take my family for a meal before we made the trip home. First off, expect this place to be busy. REALLY BUSY. Though the 25 minute wait on our table was comfortable enough (we sat in the outside area) and had a drink from the bar. Once shown to our table, we were given menus and asked to make our order at the bar. I opted for the steak (yes as usual) though my table also had Lasagne and a Seafood Thermidor along with 2 kids meals. Approaching the bar, you can't help but notice the deserts! (See photo) Each desert has clearly had a lot of effort and time to construct. It is something to be in awe of, and really sets the tone for the meal. After ordering and paying upfront, (our table of 5 paid less than £70 including drinks!) our food arrived after a short wait despite it being very busy. The food was outstanding with everyone making comment as to the high standard. Then came the moment that we were looking forward to... Desert!! The deserts taste just as good as they look (I really recommend the 3 mini deserts for £5). Overall this visit has left me a bit puzzled, this restaurant has outstanding food, excellent service and ridiculously good prices. If they can do it... WHY CAN'T OTHERS? Has to be my favourite of all. Never ceases to amaze me. Spectacular dishes, starter, main and ofcourse the eye opening dessert bar! Always choose a different dish to the one I've had previous. Went for the seafood thermador. Perfect! Rich and creamy but just enough. Price is amazing for quality of food. I love that you pay at the bar. It's easy and no hassle once you've finished your meal. Wow! Our experience there was one of the best meals ever. I just wish I could box up this place in my suitcase and take it all back home with me. We sat at the counter over looking the kitchen and it was like watching our own cooking show up close and personal. Kicking off this culinary night, we ordered the "Sharing plate" of Shredded Chili Chicken over Caesar Salad - delicious! Then I had the best, most perfectly cooked mushrooms with Iberico Ham - amazing! How am I going to not have these again?! Through all this we had the benefit of being entertained by watching our chefs prepare our selections and appreciating the care they take in each presentation. As if this wasn't enough, I was presented with my main meal selection..perfectly prepared Beef Bourguignon with grilled onions, whipped mashed potato, and grilled carrot. The whole experience is something I won't ever forget but I am also so impressed by the care and dedication of each chef as they make each dish with such passion. Went here expecting to eat oriental. The oriental restaurant was closed and replaced with the mermaid bar. We decided to stay and we're very glad we did. We each had a glass of wine. My wife likes to sip her wine and was happy that they had an option for a small glass of wine, a larger glass and then a bottle. We started with the nibbles which was olives and a prosciutto cheese mixture on toast. They were accompanied with what we would call in the States "olive poppers", which were green olives stuffed with cheese, breaded and deep fried. Pretty good. I then had a simple sliced tomato and red onion salad. Excellent. The tomatoes had that earthy tomato taste. I ordered the lamb fillet medium with mash and an extra side of asparagus. I haven't had bad lamb since I set foot on the island two weeks ago and these were as good as any. An excellent sauce accompanied the mash potatoes and lamb. My wife had a salmon plate which she was very happy with. I finished my dinner with a glass of 16 year old Bushmills. My wife had a pineapple torte with coconut ice cream which she wouldn't let me touch. Bottom line: I wish I could dine here tomorrow. An excellent meal for a total of £55.00. Extremely friendly staff, delicious turbot special (had never had it) and beautiful view. The waiter made us feel very welcome and answered many of our dorky questions about the area. Wait for the window seat, have a local drink. And avoid the honeycomb, it's good but will over-sweeten any drink it sits in. read more

Goat Cheese and Beet Root for starters was fabulous, very creamy and smooth beets provided just enough sweetness, well done. For dinner i had Lobster & Prawn Penne excellent... but more like Prawn Penne, hard to find the Lobster, Wife had Roast Duck Breast (5 stars). Cooked perfect & wonderful flavor. Get the fish pie, it is a must. Atmosphere is a bit loud for my taste and you have to figure out on your own that all orders are placed at the bar and then brought to your table. They have a beautiful gin selection with very good bartenders. Highly recommended. read more

For someone just visiting Portrush and looking for a special dinner, this place is certainly the one to look for. It can be seriously hard to get a table though, depending from the time of the year or the good weather gathering crowds in town. :) Also: this is not one single restaurant, but more than one place: take your time to discover the place. read more

We're here for the air show, we had lunch (1pm) from the ground floor of the resto, bcoz the upper floor with what supposed to have a brilliant view was closed. Yep just like what i read in some reviews here, the place seems to be not busy but takes them too long to approach us, we are a big group of 18 adults and children, 30min then took our orders then took another 1 hour to get our food. The nightmare was, the manager as a company policy (poor) took a credit card of the celebrant who was celebrating his 50th they say for security reason keep it in their position for the duration of our stay, i mean what the hell never ever in the whole of my life's travel ever experience this, or was it bcoz we were a group of different colours, we felt DISCRIMINATED, an the whole celebrations were spoilt, i don't even taste the food if its was good, that policy is rubbish i dont even know if that applies for local white people i dont think so we were singled out.
