Went here today with coworkers for lunch. One person just ordered the fried mushroom appetizer, one just a bowl of loaded potato soup and I and cheeseburger. We received the appetizer but waited for over a hour and ended up having to leave without getting our food. The worst part was the lady that I'm guessing to be a manager that stood at the window hollering and degrading the kitchen staff loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear the entire time we were there. How she was treating the staff was completely disgusting (also very annoying for customers) and if anything was slowing down the food preparation. The hubs and I stopped by 5 D on the way to the coast for 4th of July weekend. They're seemed to be short staffed because the bartender was waiting on us Service was slow but he was a nice guy. It took a long time getting the food. The hubs got a cheeseburger and water and I got a patty melt and a cocktail called mango blast. The cocktail was WAY too sweet and I couldn't taste the liquor at all. The patty melt was pretty darn good and the French fries were good too. The hubs cheeseburger was "alright". He said "the food at the 5 D in Yorktown is better". He couldn't put his finger on it. It just wasn't as good. And splurged a bit and added an advertised fresh shrimp and crab spring rolls ! 45 mins later we were served our house salad AKA bowl of wilted "Slime" After pushing that to the side we waited another 30mins and BAM here comes are fresh spring rolls which turned out to be Dollar Store Egg Rolls stuffed with what I would call a foreign substance with texture of potted meat/soft dog food. Place is open, high ceilings with a bar top right in the middle. We were seated right away. I ordered the spinach and artichoke crab dip which was cold. Unfortunately this means it was either pre-made or store bought. It also had a flavor that did not complement the dip and I couldn't make it out. Certainly could not taste any crab and we had to send it back. It was microwaved and although now warm, it still wasn't good. For the meal I ordered the Little Texan burger which, among other things, was supposed to come with jalapenos and fried pickles and the burger had neither. The flavor of the meat was great, hence the two stars, but waiting for the rest of the pieces to the burger was five minutes. Burger came with fries which were hand cut. This looked promising. Although piping hot from the frier, they weren't cooked al the way through and still hard. My colleagues fries were the same. He asked for an order that were cooked all the way through and what was brought out were store bought, frozen fries. Needless to say a let down from what was originally served to us. The last bit was that the fresh cut fries were not seasoned, literally no salt. I believe with the flavor of the party this place has the potential. The answer is to do a better job training their chef because these are cooking errors and inexcusable for a restaurant. I may try them again, but this would be a two strike place for me... read more

Ok so this review is kind of a mixed one. I came in for the first time today for lunch and as far as the food goes I was left completely unimpressed. Ive had better from most drive-thru places. My chips were stale. Salsa was obviously from a jar and bland. Ordered a patty melt that was nothing special either. What made it worse was the lack of urgency from the kitchen. I literally waited an hour from the time I sat down to when I got my food. Being oilfield I dont always have unlimited time to hang out and wait. Luckily today was an exception. Now... Only reason I waited around and didn't walk out was my waitress. She was excellent with great personality. Her name is Arianna and no joke if it hadnt been for her I would've up and left after about 30 minutes of waiting. I think yall need to really talk to your kitchen staff to step up their game. We stopped in at 5D about a year ago on our trip back from Port Aransas to the DFW metroplex, so when we were coming back this time we made sure to stop again, even thou we stayed in Corpus Christie and it was out of our way back. Our server was really friendly and attentive, very nice gal! This time we both opted to order from the lunch menu and the food was 5 star good! We actually both ordered the fried catfish, and it was a big filet, crispy, but not oily, and the fish was cooked to perfection. I had a side salad (even though it was an option for the sides, our server accommodated us) and the mac N' Cheese and it was GOOD!!! My husband had loaded mashed potatoes and he loved those too. I want to explain the four stars. So we were handed 2 lunch menu's and a paper menu that was stapled together, and kind of gross, had food spilled on it. The server did not seat us, and she was embarrassed when I made a joke about the menu. She shared that they offer the paper one if we had any problem using the QR code and pointed out a laminated card tucked behind the condiment tray. She immediately brought us a clean one, and while my husband looked at that, I grabbed the QR card to scan, and it was filthy. I actually grabbed a paper towel (they're on the table) and used hand sanitizer to get the food grime off of the card. Then something kind of funny happened, we got our drinks, and my husbands tea tumbler had a big chip out of the rim, but when our food was served, his plate too had a big chip, like the size of a quarter missing from the dish. so I just had to call him Chip the rest of the meal. I am sure this past 18 months had been hell for all restaurants in our country, not to mention in a small town. We will definitely return, as we feel it was just an off experience for this place. It was Astros playoffs and I got a front and center seat at the bar. I ordered to go and sipped a Pinot while I waited on the order and left to let the local clientele sit close. It had a lot of gristle and fat. He ate some but took the rest home. Whereas my son ate it and he too became ill. I had the hamburger and ate a quarter of it because by the time I got it, I was no longer hungry. I ate my husband's cornbread while I waited. Nevertheless I wish I had read the reviews and gone somewhere else. The manager did give a free piece of cake but it doesn't make up for the two sick guys in my life. A few more tables were seated and all attended to before us. One girl can and got us drinks and then a few minutes later another came to take our order. We placed an appetizer order and two entree at 11:30. Our two steaks didn't come for another 45 min. When they did my filet minon which was ordered medium well was rare and our sides were cold. When she set down the plates she asked how is everything and I said I would let her know in a minute because she had asked before I even cut into the steak. I politely told her "just so you know that steak was very rare and the sides were cold" and she said "well that's why I asked" I said "and that is why I told you I would let you know in a minute" she knew she had done a bad job so she scribbled here name off on the check. A porterhouse steak with a salad and steamed vegetables. Usually pretty decent. Today I got half way through my steak and tasted what seemed like rancid meat. I smelled the filet side of the porterhouse and sure enough it smelled like it was rotten. I called the server over and told her and she said yeah it's rotten..... Great food! Great service! We arrived for a late lunch. The house salad was really good. Not just lettuce in a bowl like some places. It had lettuce, a dash of fresh cooked bacon crumbles, juicy, fresh tomatoes, hard-boiled egg, cheese, and croutons. The hamburger steak was very tasty. The sides were very fresh. We had green beans and asparagus. Most places charge extra for asparagus, they did not. The grilled chicken is very good. The waitress suggested mushrooms and their freshly made pico. They were take out and when we got them home they were medium WELL. My first thought was that they misunderstood. Not the case, in the center of the steak was the little pink 'rare' sign. The seasoning was delicious and the steak was so good to start with that made it edible. The asparagus was the size of your thumb and only a very small tip was tender. The potatoes were undercooked. I had to ask a waiter to go find her. Got another drink and ordered a salad, country fried steak and fried okra. The salad was a little old and had some brown leaves. It was pre made and sitting in a refrigerator that I saw them grab out of. The fried okra was soft and not crunchy, and don't be fooled my the size of the country fried steak. It's more crust than steak, hard to cut, and chewy. The only thing that wasn't messed up was my Jack and sprite. I'll give it a second chance for redemption with a different meal maybe. read more

I don't normally blast a place this hard but.... 1. Ordered un-sweet got sweet.. yeah I know who in Texas orders unsweet... Not that big of a deal. 2. Ordered bacon potato bombs for an appetizer. These are essentially a breaded balls of mashed potatoes wrapped in bacon. The bacon was wrapped in 2 layers around the balls. The inner layer was COMPLETELY RAW. the filling was cold to the touch as well. Sent them back after regrettably taking a bite without looking. 3. We were there for 55 minutes before finally walking out. Two tables around us were seated, fed and cashed out befire we left without seeing our orders... Which were just two grilled chicken salads... We got there at 12:04pm I realize that is the busy time of the day but there was only 53 patrons in the restaurant at the time. I also realized this is oilfield town USA and that means short staff and inferior quality but come on 5D... Raw bacon is unacceptable. Been there a couple times before and got mediocre food and poor service. With a little management attention and some staff/cook training this could be the best in town, it at least not a health Hazzard. This was the last nail in the coffin. Never going back. read more

Terrible cocktails..I watched the bartender add tap water to my Mexican martini ‍ Everything was so overly salted and the asparagus was charred from being over cooked on the grill and I think to try to make it taste better it was also overly salted. If you have the misfortune of being convinced by a family member that lives in the area that this is the place to eat...don't. But if you have no choice I do recommend the corn on the cob and the sweet potato fries, that is the only reason I gave them 1 star and our waitress was a saint. Oh also the toilets were overflowing so that didn't help having the aroma tickle your noise as you were trying to eat your dinner. read more
