I oddly love this place. I go here every time I visit Chico and always buy something. Definitely caters to the older female shopper, but sometimes you can find something a little more on trend. I was shopping for dresses today for my son and daughter-in-law's wedding in October and I went to the mall and I went to a couple places downtown couldn't find anything. I walked into this lovely little shop that I've always been intimidated to go in because it's absolutely gorgeous and I always feel overwhelmed when I'm in there. Carol and Jenny welcomed me with open arms. They made me feel so good when I walked in there. I've been feeling a little negative about my body lately but Carol dressed me, and I felt like the most beautiful woman in the world just letting her give me clothes and telling me what looks good on me and I came home with a beautiful new wardrobe that I get to mix-and-match but the mother of the groom dress is absolutely gorgeous. I begged my daughter-in-law to let me know if it was OK to wear black. She's the one that actually picked it out for me so I'm wearing this lovely little number with a gorgeous Kimono sheath over the top, and I'm going to look absolutely gorgeous alongside the bride, the mother of the bride and my handsome son I can't wait! Anyway, ladies thank you so much for the best experience of my life. I've been feeling very down on myself and you made me feel fabulous today. Thank you again if I could give you 100 stars I would. My mom loves this store. We live about 1.5 hours away from Chico but anytime we are in town together she wants to stop here. Great quality clothes. Yes, prices are high but if you want good quality you pay for good quality. The owner and her daughter are fantastic. My mom hates shopping and trying on clothes. They made her feel confident in herself and the items she tried on. Thank you for making my mom feel amazing. Good selection of clothes for women over 40. I really wanted to be left alone to look and shop until I asked for help. I felt like prey. Once they got me in their sights, and pounced , they were helpful and reminded me of Nordstrom service 15 yrs ago. The owner is loud and pushy and all up in your face. At first she made me feel special, showed me things she thought would compliment me, yet was clearly selling the clothes . Then she then let me know that I was one of a thousand customers and really not that special at all , likely because I did not engage her and likely because I did not agree with her selections for me. I bought 2 pieces, that I really want to take back , but wont. The owner kept talking about prices. I can see the price. I do not know what game she was playing. Some of her pieces are over priced, other pieces have good price points. The clothes are of good quality and fit well. I spent $875 that day between 3 stores. I am not convinced that I will go back to 5th Street mostly because I do not want to deal with the owner. I appreciated the sales clerks. They seemed to listen and accept it when I said I did not like a piece. read more

This shop is very nice with plenty of choices, but the prices are extremely high. The biggest problem I had with this shop is the owner. She is too loud and tends to be pushy. She is an in-your-face type person. When I shop I like to be on my own and not be hounded to look at this or that. I only stop by 5 th Street on my way through Chico going to Auburn, maybe twice a year. However, this is a must stop for me to spoil myself with an item of their clothing. The last time I was there, I noticed that Carol, the owner was in an adorable Eileen Fisher jumper. Months later I started looking for it and called the store hoping they had a least one left in my size. I thought to myself ( keep dreaming )! To my amazement of course with the help of Kelli and others, it was purchased over the phone and mailed to me. I loved this store way before this purchased. I am younger and I don't regularly shop here, but my mother does. The choice of clothing is the best clothing selection in Chico for women at least 30 or older. The selection is okay... The staff is alright... The major reason why I gave this place 2 stars instead of say 3, is that the staff are extremely pushy, especially when the owner is around. I would definitely visit this place more often with my mother if they simply let us shop on our own. If you're the type of person who likes to be catered to and can't make clothing choices on your own, then this is the place for you. PS. I have heard the owner is not there on Mondays :) read more

I am so glad this store exists! I am 47 and I work. I'm into good quality and don't care if it's on the expensive side. You get what you pay for.- I will have these clothes in ten years. When you buy garbage you end up replacing it so you really aren't saving money, time or your aggravation. I will pay 208 for a pair of Eileen Fisher pants, no problem. Between 5Th St Clothing Co and Cotton Party, I can pretty much get my needs met. It's a good thing too because the next option in this town is Forever 21 if you're into cheap, slutty and tacky crap, go there first! And to the couple of rude ones talking about the commercial- didn't your mothers teach you if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? This places ROCKS! I am wearing a top I bought there three years ago and it looks great, really for something I don't wear to work any longer, it has held up. Esp. in this economic climate. True, the sales staff is pushy. However, they are just there to help you find something you are going to love! They know where the good stuff is...for your body type, because not everything looks the same on everybody, if ya know what I mean...I hope it becomes a family business...always there when I need something great! read more

I've been in this clothing store many times and I have to say, although the clothes are nice, they are very expensive. It is also apparent that unless the ladies working there think you are prepared to drop big bucks on an outfit, they don't have much motivation to be helpful. Interesting... After trying on about 6 Karen Kane dresses, and having zero help...actually, having been completely forgotten about, I left the store with my friend who spent over $1000 and had sales women swarming around her. I then bought 2 beautiful Karen Kane dresses from the Karen Kane website. After all, I knew exactly what size I needed! So much for that commission! So in a nutshell, beautiful clothes, but be prepared for snooty, uppity sales women who seem to think they are all that. Chico is better and way more friendly than that. I love this store. Take a gamble and let the sales staff help you find outfits. I never allowed sales staff to help me before and I'm so thankful I started. I have a shopping problem - I get overwhelmed after trying on two or three garments and flee a store without buying. When I went into Fifth St. Clothing, told them my problem and tried to explain what I wanted, the sales people brought me items to try. When I rejected the pockets on one and the fit on another, they narrowed down the selection and kept refining the choices until they had found what I wanted. Then they suggested coordinated items, accessories etc that I wouldn't have imagined. When I said I was overwhelmed, they stopped bringing clothes and I managed to leave with well-chosen items that were my style and fit me well. Not a cheap experience, but satisfying in a "personal shopper" way. I would recommend them when you need help to pull it together or find something just right. read more

Large selection. Caters to an older crowd, but has some really cute pieces for the college age too. Cute tanks/skirts/shirts. Don't expect to get anything cheap here, but everything is really well-made. Staff is trained to SELL, if you prefer to look on your own, don't tell them what you are looking for or they will show you an endless selection of things. Staff will bend-over-backwards to help you find something specific, and are particularly good at coordinating entire outfits. Weekends and late in the week are busy, with much more staff. For a calmer shopping experience, ideally go on monday morning, or early in the week. Good layaway plan. The owner (hyper but very nice) stands by what she sells, if something falls apart, (which it never does) they are very accomidating. Particularly good place for finding cute and not-too-reveling date or meet-the-parents outfits. *Bonus* Dog friendly if your dog is well behaved (although I wouldn't plan on actual shopping with a dog here), good couches/comfy chairs for the men. read more

I hate shopping but I need nice outfits for work as a consultant. I can walk into this store and the ladies will help me pull together amazing outfits that I wouldn't be able to do on my own or that I'd stress out about doing well. I basically hide in the dressing room and they figure it out for me. This week I worked with Leslie whom I've worked with before. As always, she paid attention to what I said I liked (solid mostly dark colors) and don't like (no patterns, no wool) and helped me put together fabulous mix and match outfits for a winter work wardrobe. In this store, the women know their product well and are insightful. While they do want to sell you an outfit, they always say to me, "Don't buy anything you don't like!" and I really feel like they mean that. They want you to love the clothes you buy there. read more

The clothing appears to be good quality, which is reflected in the prices though some of the items I've bought there haven't lasted beyond one or two wearings without pilling. The owner uses a very pushy sales technique which is extremely annoying to put it mildly. Pressurized shopping is no fun. read more

Today I went on a shopping spree at this store. I've purchased one or two dresses from them in the past but today was the big 'get a new wardrobe' day for me. I was helped by the Owner's daughter, Jenny. She had a knack for knowing what clothing would look good on me and brought me ensemble after ensemble to try on, with me loving nearly everything. I was able to find pieces comfortable enough and light enough for my upcoming trip to Australia (during their summertime), as well as several very comfortable business casual pieces for work. They had a great selection of jewelry to compliment and enhance the clothing pieces too. I spent nearly 2 hours there and came away with a great new wardrobe, and a great shopping experience. Fabulous clothing and VERY helpful staff; TOO helpful in mine and my sister's opinion. If felt like the vultures were swooping in and dive bombing us all at once. If one wasn't bringing us an item to consider we only had to turn around and there was another with her item to shove in our faces. I repeatedly had to tell one of the girls, "no. I don't want to go into the dressing room. I know my size and I'll take my chances, thank you!" This is a tactic they use to get one trapped so they can shove multiple items to coerce you to buy. Where you might have a budget of $80 in mind they'll make sure you end up dropping a couple hundred or more. I say, let your clothing speak for itself. Don't pester people following them all over the store. One can hardly have a complete thought to shop in peace and consider on their own what they want or don't want. But by gosh, they'll be in your face to decide for you! We won't be back. read more
