Bob Kaufmann kept a beloved 99 Mercedes going far beyond expectations and found used parts to make it more economical to keep running. Same for a 20-year-old Miata. A few weeks ago, our son visited us for two weeks from Virginia. He drove here in a 2014 Acura MDX which had a throttle surging problem where the RPMs would bounce up and down especially on hills. Three different repair places were unable to fix it. Knowing a lot about cars, I diagnosed it as a throttle body gumming, clogged fuel injectors, a vacuum leak, or faulty spark plug wiring. WRONG. Bob asked our son two simple questions and said that Hondas likely show this when they need the transmission fluid changed. He did this and also cleaned some clogged valve, and our son reports the car ran flawlessly all the way back to Virginia. Bob is a gentle, soft spoken college graduate (aviation), who has a daughter who is a violinist in New York. He has traveled extensively through Europe and not what you find in your typical mechanic. He only employs one other person, so when you take your car there, the diagnoser-in-chief will be the one fixing your car.

Said they cleaned up battery terminals and changed the starter. 2 days later after getting it back I had to replace the battery that the tech didn't put the connections on property and caused it to arc, as well as they broke the battery connection sensor. My battery is in my wheel well, and when I was going to change it, my lugs were never torqued down, I could spin off with my fingers, there was damage to the vehicle and the battery sensor connector was broken. Marcus said he'd fix this and replace the part for free and call me when it's in. I've called back and he claims its still on order, but yet the parts store has it in stock. I thought he'd do great work for me, but I'll never go back!

I would wait all day to see them, and come by multiple times during the day and they still could never do it on that day. But every year I would brush it off and keep coming back, turning my schedule around to accommodate them, because I didn't think I had other options. Finally, one day before closing time, they still told me they couldn't do it after a repeat visit that day despite saying they could be available around that time. Thankfully, I made just in time to another local place that I adore where I am treated like a smart person and never given any runaround. Never bothering with this place again.
