Went here for a private party (work related) and it's a good space for that kind of event - lots of room to move around. Staff were super nice and put lime in my ginger beer which is always pleasing! Highlight though was the snacks provided - I don't know what exactly they did to the bread that was topped with prosciutto (always my fave) but it had an incredible chargrilled flavour. They also served heaped plates of breaded fish and unusual and tasty vegetable arancini. Excellent! read more

As the complete gentrification of the once dangerous and hideous Kings Cross gathers pace, this is one of the braver early adopters. St Chads Place is down a cobbled alleyway which has long been the night time hangout for smack heads and prostitutes. Not a promising site for a cool trendy place like St Chads. But it's going to be OK. As the council desperately sweep the less fortunate down the road to Campden so the foreigners off the eurostar don't realise how backwards Britain really is, the place gets a little 'nicer' every day. And this little patch begind Kings Cross has started to attract design and architects business. Lots of smart expensive glasses frames walking about now. St Chad's Place is a single dining room which is quite striking because it's got huge high ceilings and a lovely concrete floor giving it a warehouse feel. The whole back wall is one photograph. of a train station I think. Apt as the metropolitan line runs right by the side of the place. You could be in a gallery of some sort. It's got that sort of feel, but it certainly isn't precious. They've left it quite casual. You can wander in and buy a take away sandwich or sit down at one of the tables and order from the small but interesting menu. Or design a new-fangled building on your mac on one of the armchairs provided whilst slurping a good quality coffee. When we first started going here after we moved to the area (advertising. Now THERE goes the neighbourhood!) we felt they were possibly over-stretching themselves with the menu. Very eclectic choices which sometimes simply weren't pulled off. However, each time we've gone the food has got noticably better. A venison steak and chips was excellent most recently and reasonable value at £13. A soused mackerel starter was also particularly good although quite challenging to one of our party who found the vinegar hadn't had enough of a cooking effect yet. Maybe still stuff to be worked on. It's bright, it's spacious, it's not too fussy, they keep the menu compact and interesting. The service is good. It's a place that seems to believe in what it's doing. They care about the food and the surroundings. It gets better every time we go. It gets three stars from me now but I've no doubt it will get four before long and I will continue being a regular. read more

I went here for a friend's birthday, and had a great time. It's damn near impossible to find. I felt quite pleased with myself as I walked in, having only looked at a map, er 3 times. The beer selection's a bit better than your average pub, but it was the food that shone- some of the best bar nibbles I've ever had! Will definitely return. read more

A lovely space, in a warehouse with skylights so it feels bright even on a gloomy day. Shame about the drinks, though. Several of us went along after work on a Thursday to have a few cocktails. It wasn't super busy, and we ordered drinks off the menu. One got the elderflower martini, which was weak and a bit too sweet. Another ordered a Negroni, which tasted a bit odd until we worked out that it didn't have any vermouth in it, so was basically a gin and Campari. I asked for a lemongrass and chili martini, since nothing else appealed. The bartender looked at me with disgust. "How can I make a drink if I don't have the ingredients?" he asked. My mind boggled-- I had politely asked for a drink on the menu, and that was the response. I asked how I was supposed to know what they didn't have, if they printed a fake menu? No answer. I asked what else he didn't have, and he shrugged. "berries, fruit, all that crap." OK, then. I asked if they have sweet vermouth (not having seen my friend's Negroni yet), and again I got a look of disgust. "Of course!" he said confidently. I ordered a basic martini with sweet vermouth rather than dry, a basic version of a martinez. He wandered around gathering ingredients, and ended up making my drink with warm Martini Bianco from the shelf. That's not how you look after vermouth, and that isn't sweet vermouth. I figured it was as good as I was going to get, went with it and was charged eight quid for it. Watery, old vermouth that had no flavour, and basically among the worst drinks I've ever had in a bar. Come here and drink beer from a can, but don't bother with the cocktails! read more

Went to a wedding here. Great place for a wedding, food was very, very good. On offer was lamb, some kind of veggie stuffed with ricotta, and salmon. I'm no veggie but I raided the other tables for more of the veggie and ricotta. Mmmmm Starters were really good too. Venue was very nice, changed well from restaurant to dancing venue. Entertainment was provided by Dublin DJ Jae Brown. It all gets a bit blurry after that, but a cracking spot to have a wedding, it loses one point for being down a hard to find alley. read more

2 stars for the food, 5 stars for the beer, 2 stars for the gin & tonic. Let's start with the appetizers: good charcuterie and croquettes, forgettable cheese. Then, the 'beef' burger: nice presentation, good bread and tomatoes and all of sudden, you get a beef bite. Surprise! If this is 100% beef, I m a mad cow. Just forget it. Fortunately, the Kozer beer was excellent, getting me to smile. I should have avoided the Gin&T: out of 3 components, the tonic and the cucumbers were the only prominent ones. The younger brasher brother of Smithys, which is just round the corner. Nice communal feel to it - lots of benches and a big open space, with one wall taken up with a massive photo of a train (next to the Thameslink you see). It's always entertaining to see punters walk up to the this wall and get confused when they can't find the door to the lavs. I'm cruel like that you see. My only criticism is that sometimes the music can be too loud. Bar snacks are good. Bar staff can be a little slow. read more

I really love this place. Tucked away from punters straight off the street it's reserved for those in the know and we all like to keep it that way! I recommend the chilli and garlic prawns which are divine and I'd say definitely book a table so you are guaranteed somewhere to sit. I really want to like this place more. After all, it's a bit of a secret (my favourite kind of bar), located down a cobbled alleyway (the best kind of secret bar) and just down the road from my office (CONVENIENT!). BUT, whenever I've been here for food - and whenever colleagues have been there and reported back - the service has always been terrible. For full disclosure, I must put my hands up and say that I haven't eaten here in about a year, so things may have changed, but going there for a drink tonight reminded me of the terrible experience I had there last time, before my Qyping days. Food aside, 06 St. Chad's Place is a nice, open-plan place to go for a post-work drink with quirky decor and a pleasant ambience. But if you're thinking of going here on a weekend do check the opening times as I turned up once and it was closed. read more

St Chad's is a diamond in the otherwise drab landscape of Kings Cross. It's hard to find, down a little alley way behind Pentonville road. The interior is loft style, bare brick walls and exposed beams with a back wall which has hidden doors and a huge train station backdrop. It's impressive stuff. There's a selection of leather sofas for chilling and sit down tables for lunch and dinner. The menu changes every week and is always fresh and excellent quality. I had a chicken breast stuffed with an oyster and garlic sauce, with vegetables and potatoes when I last went...it was beyond divine. The service can be a little on the slow side, which is frustrating considering it's not exactly packed at lunch. I went there in the evening a few years ago and was surprised at how busy it was - it's a great place to meet up pre-clubbing (or at least it was, before they closed The Cross). Overall it's the best restaurant and bar in Kings Cross. Worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

06 St Chads place is what I moved to London for. Open communal space, great atmosphere (although I have been known to quote my mother - I can't think over this music!), a little bit of outdoor and a rambling indoor which leads to good nights shared with a large group of friends. It's tucked away so you have to have a recommendation to find it, which makes it all the more charming. No tourist wheelie bags here (phew). Drinks menu is extensive and quality -- can be a little slow on the cocktail prep, but worth the wait. Bar snacks are good, definitely central London prices, but good all the same. A rarity in Kings Cross it's a little quirky and a whole lotta fun. read more

This place has a very cool venue and the crown is slightly off the main stream. The restaurant is open for lunch only and in the evening it turns into a bar. I only had breakfast there once - neither the food nor the service was special. The other time I visited the place was for an evening drink - OK, but not more than that. The barman at some point declined to sell anymore of a particular wine because 'he needed it for the next day' - a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Will I go again? - I won't rush. read more

What a fun little hidden gem, right by St Pancras/Kings Cross station, where you'd least expect it. I think it's only open for lunchnow, but I bet that will change soon. The food is traditional english with a french twist. So you can get a quality sausage roll, or a pork chop with black pudding (my favorite) cooked just right. I think the prices are a little expensive for london, entrees at lunch are 12-15 pounds- but you're pretty much guarenteed a nice meal in a nice setting. read more

This a great little place down a side street in Kings Cross and so it's very unexpected when you come across it. It's a large open space but you seem to need to get there early to able to get seating. Nice wines and bottled beers are on offer and the platter of food that I've tried there was very nice. read more

It's down an alleyway, right behind the old King's Cross Thameslink. Large doors and a very sexy interior design - converted from an old warehouse. There are never enough seats on a weeknight during happy hour, but the crowd of young professionals are young, fun, and mellow. I've never tried their lunches, and their drinks are normal and pricier than ye olde pub, but it's a great place to chill. read more

Awful appalling service. Really and truly terrible. I have never been motivated to write a review before however after the consistently abismal service I am suitably motivated. I visited today to have a coffee in the quiet in-between-breakfast-and-lunch period. I have been here before and due to back street location it is extremely quiet in these downtimes, which is why I go. Upon entering I was headed off at the door with a quizzical 'what could you possibly want' glare from a staff member. On being grunted at that breakfast was no longer available (fair) I politely enquired that it may be possible that I could entertain a coffee instead (also, I would say, fair) As soon as I sat down I was hustled from a 'reserved' table (not a soul in the place) to another table I was then asked 'do you actually need a table?' More philosophical than customer service however as I pondered how this question could even be posed to a genuine paying customer, I found myself shunted again. Please note this was a totally empty coffee bar. EMPTY. And for the entire time I was in there as well. The look of disgust I received after requesting a coffee was akin to kicking a puppy. If you feel that you fancy a coffee in a decent architecturally designed restaurant, in a nice back street location in Kings Cross and can't find anywhere else but St Chads to go to, I suggest you get on a tube and find another area of town. read more

OK bar. Smells from toilet waft through the whole bar whenever anyone goes to the loo. Bar staff rude, particularly guy with the beard!! Ask for drinks (had a £600 bar tab). Walked off saying I am not your waiter. Rude. Wont be hurrying in back. read more
