Nothing to really brag about, but definitely better than the usual complimentary breakfasts you get. I can't think of anything to fault this hotel with. There's a Thai restaurant, a cafe, and a casino right next door. I think there was an indoor pool, but we never got around to checking it out. The grab and go breakfast was minimal: packaged cupcakes, bars, pieces of fruit, etc. They do have 24 hour coffee and half and half and honey to go with it, which I appreciated, along with the other usual coffee continents. And, forget about being able to recharge all your devices at once (being an older building, there very few easily accessible outlets). But, if you want a place that is clean and comfortable, and the staff nice, then this is a good place to lay your head for the night. While this small (only 12 or so rooms) motel is a bit out dated, it's one if the cleanest places that I've ever stayed at (eby - even before Yelp :-D ). The staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is the standard Continental affair. Being old school (or, maybe just old, ugh), I was surprised that being an independent place, they didn't have cash discounts. So, to me, the price of $96 seems a bit high to me for a bare-bones place like this. Also, something they do that I wasn't happy to see: they write your c/c and CVV numbers down in case of damage to the room. I just hope they destroy it to where it can't be used. Now, I gotta watch my card more closely.

The Lamar has everything a family could need including a great kitchen for making memorable meals (I love to cook and found all the supplies I needed), ample space for hanging out with and without your family, and all the modern conveniences travelers expect (there's even Wifi). The dining area provided a wonderful start to the day with a cup of coffee and a gorgeous view of the mountains. The propane grill off the back deck made dinnertime easy. The bedrooms were spacious and the whole house was equipped like the finest hotel. Horseback riding, white water rafting and fabulous hikes are all a short drive away. If you're thinking about Yellowstone the Lamar Cabins should be your first choice!

It is in Emigrant a small town that boasts a great bakery and great BBQ in the warm season. To get to and from the Cabin you drive through the Chico Hot Springs Resort. In addition to hot springs Chico has a riding stable and adventure company for white water, scenic floats and hiking. This is nice if you don't want to drive to Gardiner some days. There is also a nice hike to a falls just up the road from the cabin. The cabin itself was excellent. We were there on some hot days and the cabin stayed cool if you closed the blinds as instructed. There was a full kitchen and while fussy cook husband might have wanted sharper knives for prep work he managed to make some fine meals. He also used the charcoal grill but the black flies were thick in the heat. Better him than me! Happily the long porch facing the stream is fully screened. No biting things there. The porch had a casual dining table and glider bench. The cabin had two bedrooms and one and a half baths. The half bath was in a utility room which included a washer and dryer. Priceless! There was also a comfy living room with two sofas and a glider chair. We never used the TV but it was there too. The cabin had wifi thankfully because there wasn't much cell reception. Basically it was a great place to get away, listen to the creek at night and relax.
