The motel is well-appointed, with recently renovated "deluxe" rooms as well as regular rooms. I've only stayed in the deluxe rooms, which were very comfortable and perfectly clean. All rooms share a large covered deck between them and the parking lot, providing great shelter in bad weather and a nice place to sit and chill in good weather. There is ample parking with room for larger vehicles and trailers. The motel is pet friendly and chargers a modest $15 pet fee. Be sure to let them know if you have a pet when you're booking. Staff is very friendly and the housekeeper even shared a story about how the motel was the filming site of the movie The Horse Whisperer. Cool!

We dined in an 1890 National Register of Historic Places hotel surrounded by mounted trophy heads to delicious entrees, great California wine, warm ambiance, an over the top desert and excellent service from Savanah and Westin (Westin was only 16 however was a excellent server and well beyond his years)!!!

The waitress intentionally went about clearing tables, washing glasses and refused to wait on us. After about 20 minutes we realized she was not interested in helping us. When we got up to leave she continued to be rude. I will never go back. People like that should not be in the "service" industry. We have been stopping g there for years. The bartender was very nice but this woman ruined our afternoon.

We were very fortunate recently to spend 3 nights at Burnt Out Lodge. It is a truly unique place…read moreto relax. Your first view of the log cabin lodge reveals an unpretentious structure that is very roomy inside with a large common room that serves as a gathering/breakfast space, seeming to be, with the loft, a nice facility for groups. The Lodge is constructed of logs that remained after a fire consumed 12,000 acres including much of the ranch. The hosts Ruth and Blick shared their story about the building of the lodge which we found fascinating. Our rooms were very spacious with cathedral ceilings with outside entrances/porches. A pond lies just outside the Lodge and a stream just steps further(our fishing skills were too limited to take advantage of those opportunities). Cattle graze all around the site as part of its ranch setting in the coulee and we saw turkeys and deer along the road. Breakfasts were simple but good with large portions and very accommodating (we needed breakfast at 7 AM and it was on the table right on time each day). The long rock/dirt lane road made us wonder whether we were in the right place but signage assured us that we were. The road also encouraged us to stay in during the evenings which was fine for us and resulted in a very tranquil stay. This was our first exposure to Montana "ranch" life and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

High ceilings and quaint log construction. Large common area for dining and socializing. Internet by satellite -- adequate for Email and web, but you won't be streaming video. Cell phones out of range, but you can get cell service by driving 1.5 miles up the road to the ridgetop. Hiking and some fishing on the stream nearby. Large pond for a canoe or raft. Garden flowers and green lawn. Cattle on the surrounding ranch are entertainment. Near enough to Big Timber. The only shortcoming: this area recovering from a fire a few years ago; surrounding hillsides show dead twisted trees with new trees only beginning to grow -- namesake "Burnt Out" lodge. Would certainly go back again; would certainly recommend.

The management for the hotel refused to give us the discount because they said the reservation was made through a third party. That was absolutely not true, and I call this false advertising. Not only that, they jacked up the prices during that time to take advantage of the situation.

No decor in sight. It just felt a little depressed. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, so that's good. But as for providing a little something that makes it stand out, it's not really there.

Later, 6 weeks prior to our visit had to cancel and never got deposit refunded. When we called regarding the deposit we were told that deposits were non-refundable. Remember I was NEVER asked for a deposit so now they have $200 deposit that wasn't asked for in the first place. Everyone needs to be aware of this policy because I sure wasn't informed. I would recommend a wonderful place to stay in Big Timber, The Grand Hotel!

Most other hotels/motels looked basically the same so it was nice to see something different here. There were definitely some spots which could benefit from some fresh paint or something but it wasn't a big deal. The check-in process was on the other hand more modern. Not "we have an app" modern but they have keypad locks on all the room doors so check-in was handled through a text message (which included the door code). A phone call was also an option but texting was easier for me because we were on the road and didn't always have reception. Text messages also mean all the info would be available if I needed to check it later. We were only there to sleep so we didn't need any assistance, but if anything came up we would have had to call or text the manager since there was nobody on-site. Hopefully in those cases they can respond and/or show up quickly. We do sometimes have good conversations with the front desk people but a quick simple check-in is also great. The bed was comfortable and the shower worked well. The one surprise in the room was that the tv was on when we walked in. I'm not used to that but we noticed that Top Gun: Maverick was on so we ended up watching it.

You feel the history in the decor, woodwork, etc. I wished we could've stayed more nights but they were all booked. Service: super friendly and helpful, great staff.
