I went in to the store wanting to get a fountain soda. I grabbed a cup that said "large" and went up to pay. Outside it said a big gulp was 89 cents. The cashier scanned my cup and it came up as iced coffee for $1.99. I informed the cashier (a very nice man) that this was soda. He asked his supervisor how much it cost. The supervisor then laid into me about how I grabbed the wrong cup, as if I were an idiot for not knowing. She said you pay for the cup, not the drink. She wouldn't even let me get a word in as she was chastising me for having the audacity to get confused about which cup to use. Horrible customer service, ridiculous that she wouldn't just give me the drink for 89 cents- on top of making me feel small. read more

Pretty standard 7-Eleven. The staff is friendly and they tend to keep the place clean for the most part. The slurpee area which I tend to frequent after a night of drinking can be messy depending on the time of the day. They sell alcohol but it's overpriced so unless you're short on time, I would buy it from elsewhere. Also, on occasion you can find bums passed out drunk in front of the store. If you're a kind soul you will steal your friends Vitamin Water, sit him up, and make him drink water. read more

I have never had a worse experience anywhere. I walked in at a reasonable time and greeted the worker nicely. I asked if it would be possible to change my 2 month old baby's diaper in the bathroom. The man then tells me I have to speak to the supervisor next to him. I looked at the super visor and he immediately said "I don't have a public bathroom." Him saying this I said I would be willing to by something and with even more annoyance he repeated "NO I DONT HAVE A PUBLIC BATHROOM." Not once was i rude and this man was treating me with such disrespect and looked disgusted that I even asked to change my baby. Let's say, and this has never happened to anyone I know necessarily, that you've been out drinking a bit too late in Wicker Park or Ukranian Village. For, you know, whatever reason. Everything but the 4:00 a.m. bars are closed but you really need breakfast food or some other crucial implement that absolutely has to be there when you wake up in the morning (deoderant, toilet paper, shaving razors). Where to turn? Why, only the most conveniently located 7-11 in all of Chicago. Sure you could probably find a Walgreen's or a CVS while the designated driver is taking you home (because I would never endorse driving drunk, even in jest), but this mini-mart has a parking lot. Though my friends and I once discovered, no bathroom. If they had one of those, they could charge for it! For real. I've found this 7-11 unmanagable at times once inside the door due to the setup of their coolers. This is actually a pretty small version of the chain but I think they stock more than even their larger locations in terms of food and drink. I mean, they have fresh fruit as well as fruit slurpees and fruit coolers. But, yeah, mostly the parking lot separates this one out. It's like a beacon calling you in from Damen Avenue to splurge on unnecessary, slightly tipsy items, driving or walking past it. Though it has saved my future hungover self a number of times for important Sunday morning plans not thought of until late on Saturday night. read more

My company was at a street festival on Damen. We were parked about 40yards away from the store all weekend on Damen. Spent over $100 in ice, aluminum foil, beverages and other snacks during the day. When it was time to pack our stuff up after a rain storm we parked our owners car in their lot (just on the other side of a fence from our booth) and left the doors open while we were loading up goods, dirty dishes and coolers. Within 2 minutes this a-hole who works for 7-11 or the building owner put a boot on our car. Das Boot!!! After explaining that we had been a customer of the store and showed receipts he would not remove the boot. He kept pointing to the fine print of the sign and spewing some legal BS that there is nothing that can be done except pay a $140 fine. I went and brought the manager of the 7-11 and she couldn't reason with the guy in spite of her telling me that she remembered who I was and remembered me buying stuff at the store all day long. Eventually I pay the guy and take out my iphone camera to record him and try get evidence for court. He then hides his name tag and walks away. So its OK for him to record me but not for me to record him. Bottom line is this a$$hole runs a total and complete scam. Ripping off hard working people while sitting in his air conditioned car just waiting for someone to not read the fine print. Fine print that essentially says that if you park there you have to walk into a store and when business is concluded return to your car and leave. If you happen to see a friend who is standing one inch outside their lot and walk out the lot to greet them you are going to have to pay $140 to get your car out of boot jail. Even if you purchased goods and have the receipt in hand. Complete ripoff of hard working people. Not cool. Would NEVER encourage anyone to shop here or park anywhere near this lot. In all the days that this 7-11 has been in Wicker Park, I've only been through it once, picking up some gum. Today I was sent here for a tasting through one of the agencies that I work for, to sample 'Yago Sant Gria', a new bottled sangria on the market. A great value at $4.99 per bottle!! 7-11 isn't the kinda place I'd normally review, but I have to say, I had an enjoyable time whilst there, meeting an interesting cast of people - 2 under narcotic cops, we chatted about CSI, my past graffiti writing days, gangs, capital punishment, their Smith & Wesson guns, etc. Then I chatted with a guy who studied acoustics at my alma mater, Columbia, who now creates music for commercials. I spoke with the employee's friend Victor, who only spoke in Spanish, so it was good practice for me. I knew more Spanish than he knew English. I was proud of myself. Then some other words were exchanged with all the customers that stopped in (a lot of people stop in at this 7-11) and those that tasted the sangria, liked it. The staff is super friendly - Eric and Raul were very helpful getting me what I needed - ice, shaker, and ice bucket. The store is super clean and pretty much has a variety of items - alcohol, donuts, hot dogs, chips, meds, mags, sushi, fruit, tortillas, cake, muffins, cookies, and SANGRIA!!!! (and so much more) Who would of thought, but they have it, yes they do! Get some for your pre-summer time get down!!! read more

This is literally the worst store I've ever been in. Immediately when I walked through the door I was greeted with a smug grunt from the guy at the counter. He noticed I was looking at the Juul Pods so before I even said anything, he shouted "I need your ID!" Took me off completely off guard. What was most ridiculous was that he priced the Juul pods at $42.00?!?!?!?! For one pack???? I could have them delivered for $15 cheaper! The next highest price in the neighborhood for pods is $27, so I'm wondering how in the world they came up with that price. There is absolutely no chance that they're selling more than 1 pack a week considering you could walk 500ft and get them for literally HALF THE PRICE. The only reason I went here was because it was late, and I'm never making that mistake again. Didn't purchase anything and I don't think these cheap-o's deserve a dime. Ok, here's the thing about this 7-Eleven. It is across from Wicker Park. There are some characters here. Most of whom probably don't have a regular home address. There were two hippies with a sign that said "out of work supermodels" with a pregnant or just birthed pit bull. They didn't want a sandwich, they wanted beer, which I suppose if I reach back far enough into my youth, I can relate to...nope, I would have wanted a sandwich and a beer, or wine, no, Boone's Farm! Or Milwaukee's Best Light...that was some quality stuff from the Hy-Vee. Mmmm Hardees curly fries. Ok, as usual, I digress. It's a nice enough place, friendly staff and has its own parking lot, 3 stars. Hippy dude stunk and came inside the store to buy his 40 and the stench from him made me throw up in my mouth a litte, and 1 pack of smokes was $10 (Walgreens does the 2 for 15 deal) and vitamin water was 2 for $3. So, no great deals here and a little throw up in my mouth, minus 2 stars. Won't be going out of my way to go back to this place, unless I am drunk and desperate, and then I suppose I would fit in a little better. read more

SHAME ON YOU ! ! ! ! ! I'm not gonna turn this into a rant about why I agree when employers want employees to only speak English around customers, it's to discourage this type of behavior (the type that I saw and heard). I've been in a lot of places where Spanish speaking employees let their guards down around me not knowing that I know exactly what their saying. Although I look "white" (gringo), I grew up speaking Spanish, I rarely use it in public. Back to the 7 Eleven, I was in there a few weeks ago and 2 of their employees (who are gonna remane nameless) were gonna throw some garbage out, one guy opened the door for the other guy that was pushing a cart loaded with the garbage. At the same time this lady was getting ready to exit, when the employee opened the door she thought it was for her and she said "thank you" as soon as she stepped out they both laughed at each other and one of them said "Stupid bitch I wasn't opening the door for her" in Spanish. This wasn't the only time they said this type of thing. I heard them talking bad about a female employee as well. I believe she was Indian (I wonder why I haven't seen her in awhile). Here are these 2 guys both of which murder the Queens English worse than one of those Hip Hop worshiping kids, they have a job (at a time when people are struggling) where good customer service could go a long way and this is what they do. I think 7 Eleven should focus more on hiring people with good customer service experience as supposed to just hiring people that have previous cash register experience (according to there website). So the one star is for those 2 employees, aside from that the store always has my favorites, but I won't be going back to this location. read more

The street I grew up on had a 7-11 right across the stoplight from my apartment. This should tell you how goddamned classy I was as a child. When I turned 17 my mother said I could cross the street by myself, and the first place I went was 7-11. Oh yes, freedom tasted exactly like seven boxes of Cry Baby Tears and a 236oz. Big Gulp. In my college years (I'm kidding, it was like ... two semesters) I would often leave my Introduction to Interdiction class to walk the thirty or so feet to a much similar, cramped and wondrous utopian Slurpee/taquito saloon, the familiar flickering 7-11 sign out front triggering epilepsy and nostalgia in intermittent tandem. Now, as my waxen and youthful beauty fades, like the scent of your perfume from my pillows and parlors, I often drag my weary bones a whole block and a half to that incandescent placard of red, green and orange safety, of youthful misadventure and recreational drug abuse, of better times ... my precious 7-11. Now, however, like myself, 7-11 is all grown up. I would like to think this is a result of some serious soul-searching on the part of 7-11 (like when you wake up in the very back of an eight seater cargo van with a bloody nose and no shoes on, wrapped in a towel and have to walk a mile and a half back to your friend's house at 7:15 in the morning and they come to the door all groggy and pissed off and you have to explain that no, you didn't get robbed, you were out with that waitress from La Shish and her art school friend and you think maybe you snorted something but you were so drunk it's like, "who knows, man?" and they start to shut the door but then you're like "look at my feet!" and you know they want to make you go home and not talk to you for a month but you have blood on your heels from the gravel and it'll be easier to say they're not going to talk to you if they don't regret making you limp off on your burger pads so you go into the bathroom and look in the mirror and some of your hair is shaved off and you didn't even know you had a nosebleed but JESUS CHRIST you're 26 not 16 and you should really know better because Lisa's not going to let you come over ever again when she sees what your feet did to her bathmat and what the hell happened to going back to college? etc.) but it's probably because I live in Wicker Park (2008 version) and everything is just a little more yuppie-friendly than elsewhere. See, my 7-11 has a deli now. Yeah, that's right. Sliced meat. My 7-11 also has soymilk and protein bars and fresh (looking) produce and bananas and shit. Yeah, yeah, I'm serious. There's like, a little hippie section where they keep all this stuff and it's refrigerated but there's like, straw in between the items like it's a refrigerator AND A HAYWAGON because that is supposed to make you think your $4 prepared salad in its hermetically sealed container was recently uprooted from the fertile soil of a local farm and brought to you by kindly farmer Jed and his trusty mare first thing this morning ... or something. Regardless, you can still stumble in high as the treetops at 3:30 in the morning and buy Maxim and two 99 cent bags of Starburst and a shriveled old-man-dick of a hotdog and a 20oz. coffee if you want, but you can also grab a Muscle Milk at 5am before you go jogging and some Yellow Tail shiraz for that last minute olive and cheese soiree at Marian's. They have hummus now, and green tea alongside the "energy coffee." It's classy now, my 7-11. I mean, sure, none of the employees speak English very well, and a good 68% of the patrons only come in for a case of High Life, but if you run in real quick and keep your eyes squinted, you'll walk out with a well-balanced, marginally nutritious meal and some vitamin water, a bottle of wine under your arm and stop, head cocked, to pivot on your heel and make sure that Yes, yes indeed, you were just in Seven Fucking Eleven. Hats off to you, seven-one-one. You're a big boy now. Wipe your bloody nose and let's go dancing. read more

A little on the pricey side, but it's a convenience store in the heart of Wicker Park so it's to be expected. I mostly come here for slurpees since they cure hangovers like no other and they have a couple more flavors than a typical 7-Eleven. More would be nice, but I can work with what they have. What makes this 7-Eleven stand out more than others is the staff. The people that work here are very nice and welcoming. I'll be back, most likely later today. read more

It is not a convenience store. Totally understaffed, overpriced, slow, rude owner who makes inappropriate comments on customer appearance and buying habits. Making some less than pleasant comments on ethnicity. Oh and they put items on sale, but charge wrong at the register. I showed this to them the last time it happened by indicating what the sign said and that it was current. The employee agreed, but the owner/boss decided instead to rip the sign up. But hey if you want to be harassed, deal with creepy leering comments and have discount signs ripped up in your face, come here! read more

Went a little out of my way today for some good ol' 7-11 coffee. I walk in around 8:00am and I see a girl setting hot water out. I ask if there is any coffee ready, since I see no earns. She politely said, "no, I am making them now." I will say the staff here is always friendly. I hope there was a reason why there wasn't even old coffee ready. I would have setteled for what they had... simply no coffee at 8am on a Tuesday seems unprofessional. This is probably the best place to grab a late night snack in the wicker park area. Last weekend, after a rough night on Milwaukee avenue bars, my friend and I stopped by at this 7/11 to get some water and a quick bite to recover from drinking. While we were still deciding what to get, I noticed their clean food prepping area. So we ordered some hot snacks. We had a fresh, spicy bite hot dog and a taquito. I was really happy with the service. The clerk who helped us was very friendly and courteous. I chatted a bit with him. He happened to be the owner's son. I am posting for this particular store because it's by far the cleanest 7/11 stores ever and they have a friendly staff. read more

This strip mall's parking lot is managed by the extortion company Global Parking Management, who put a boot on my car by the time I went to the ATM and back to pay at 7-11. Forced to pay $140 on the spot by two intimidating thugs in order to get the boot off even though I was patronizing the business. You lost business 7-11 and can't say I'll ever come back. I came in to grab a few snacks for my kids before going to the park across the street. We grabbed various drinks, muffin, and an apple that my 2 year old started eating. When we got to the register, I realized I didn't have my wallet. I did have a check book and Apple Pay as well as a memorized credit card number. The guy at the counter rudely dismissed any of those options. In response, I put all of our items on the counter and started to walk out(as my 2 year old is screaming bloody murder). He says, "are you going to pay for that apple?" A sweet person behind me offered to pay for it. Thank you! I ended up finding 5 dollars in my car and giving it to her.
