I know, I know, there are some of you who go every month and more power to you- but that's too much work for lazy face here. Piel is on Ventura Blvd. and inside the RUA Hair Salon. Once inside, you go right and up the stairs. I purchased an $85 Groupon for: Microdermabrasion, LED Therapy and an Antioxidant Oxygen treatment. It's regularly $125. Lucy was welcoming. She went downstairs to get me water (facials make me thirsty!) and her little room was comfortable and smelled spa-like. It was a nice facial but I can't say it was the best I've ever had. Personally, I like to be told about what's going onto my face and a little about the procedure and what to expect- especially since I was a first-timer at Piel. I had to ask about each step, and mostly, the process was relaxing. The only part I really didn't enjoy was the LED Therapy. Lucy placed rubbery eye pads over my lids, set a heavy helmet-like thing over my face and asked me to adjust it if I was uncomfortable- which I did. But she had left the room without checking, and the helmet moved the eye pads and I laid there kinda freaked out since my eyelids weren't entirely covered by the plastic pads. I wondered if I was damaging my eyes. This was not relaxing! I will say that my skin looked really good that evening and glowed the next day. I would probably go back to Piel but I'd skip the helmet of doom...

While preparing for my wedding, I decided to fully invest in making my skin look its best for the big day. I decided to do a series of sessions with Mindy every 4 weeks for about 4 months - and let her guide the plan for my skin. We did everything from BioRePeel to microdermabrasion to sculpting massages. The results were truly life-changing for me. Prior to this series, my chin would barely go a week without a new breakout. By the end of the series, I was barely experiencing any pimples at all, even with the stress of wedding planning. And, the blemishes from my prior breakouts were cleared up. For the first time in very long time, I felt that I could leave the house without putting on some makeup. Mindy has also recommended several products to me over the years, and I always love to try her recommendations because they quickly become part of my routine. While I've been receiving facials for years, this was the first one I've had in a long time that felt completely customized and tailored to my needs -- which, to be honest, seem to change based on where I'm living, diet, climate etc. The low-key, chic atmosphere was relaxing and I felt transported to another world over the two-hour window (it also didn't even feel like two-hours). A particular highlight of the facial was how easy the extractions were: usually I've had estheticians using mass amounts of pressure -- to the point I feel like a chunk of my skin is going to get ripped off -- but there was none of that here. Another phase I loved (and there were many) was the jelly mask, which oddly goes over your eyes and mouth, but it felt amazing. I'm also someone who likes to get facials semi-regularly, but no one wants to shell out a crazy amount of money every time -- I think Shunashy's prices are totally fair, and I know I'll be a longterm client because of that. Her studio is conveniently located inside Salon 90210, which a very cool, indie-type concept in the Beverly Hills area.
