The installation team showed up at the appointed time, and were removing the old carpet w/in 5 mins of their arrival. These guys busted butt for 8 hrs, re-positioned the furniture as they finished a room, and took the old carpet and detritus from their install w/ them. A+ While I agree w/ another reviewer that the G&S store is "no frills", I'd also remind folks, "don't judge a book by its cover". The staff are friendly, and while they may not have as expansive a showroom as other area carpet providers, they seem confident they can get you whatever you want. One final note. We did a lot of research on carpet before we settled on G&S. Very disappointed in one of the area's more popular carpet stores, as their measurement of our floor space was off by almost 20 sq yds!! At $50-60 per sq yd . . . you do the math. Additionally, that same business did not itemize their quote, so we were left guessing at the various cost points. No thanks. This morning I was at home in my room and my daughter was home with me waiting for the bus for school. All of a sudden I heard a man's voice saying "Hello, hello!" At first I thought it was my husband, but then I quickly realized it wasn't his voice. I looked toward my front door and no one was there. I then go towards the back of my home by my laundry room and I see a man standing there with my door wide open. It was a delivery man from this company with a G&S invoice who thought it was a good idea to open someone's side porch door without knocking!!! He was supposedly looking for a house that was not this one. I immediately shut the door and locked and dead bolted it (I had just gone outside a half hour before that to throw out trash which is why the door was unlocked). I called our property manager to confirm if they were expecting a delivery and they said no. I then called G&S and did get a confirmation that they were doing a job out here in the neighborhood. I told the gentleman that I spoke with what happened and to let his employee know that it's not a good idea to open people's doors without warning. I also let the gentleman on the phone know that if the delivery man would've stepped one foot in my door that he would've had a "buck shot in his ass." I protect my home and my child at all costs and the actions by their employee were not okay.

Initial Appointment - Chas showed up next day as promised and gave me a quote that evening. The quote was extensive with several options for deck cleaning, simple window washing, and a high-end window cleaning that included screens and detailing frames and sills. He was quite talkative and a bit outspoken. I like dealing with an owner/operator as opposed to a sales professional. Chas is a little rough around the edges, but I could tell he would take a professional approach based on our conversation and decided to give him a try. I went with his "Dutch Experience" but excluded the deck cleaning. Work Quality - As a commercial cleaning contractor I appreciate the professional job he and his helper did. The process used was technically correct, and the results were excellent. Again, Chas was a little outspoken during his conversation with my wife, but she has tough skin and is not easily offended. Price - I've had other window washing contractors, and Chas is certainly on the high end of the pricing spectrum. Current labor costs, workers comp, and liability insurance are much higher now than in the past, so I understand the pressure to adjust pricing accordingly. Still, I feel the price-point wasn't completely justified. Would I Use Chas Again? - Likely.

I will summarize the important points here so you can understand the issue in 60 seconds or less. I gave Chas a scope of work I wanted done and he emailed me a quote of $4323.50. I thanked him by email and said "At these prices I think I owe it to myself to get a competitive quote or two." I thought that would take me about one week to do. I assured him I would contact him with my decision one way or the other and I would not leave him hanging. This was his email response: "People living in multi-million dollar homes and lowball those who don't even own a house, it tells me you have no compassion or loyalty to help people become successful." Wow. I called him out on his unnecessary insults regarding my "compassion and loyalty" and this was his reply: "Well Robert, I'm sorry you feel this way just because someone tells you the way it is. Remember I am born/raised Dutch, and we don't mess around." Wow once again! If his responses appeal to you and trigger a desire to work with him, then Chas is the only man for you. It will be hard to find anyone who will insult you better than Chas Smit, the Dutch window washer who doesn't mess around. Update: On 5/26/2026 I received a competitive quote for the same scope of work I requested of Chas Smit. It was for $2400 from ClearviewSanLuisObispo.com. Not only did it save me almost $2000 from the Durtchman's quote, but it was delivered with great communication and excellent customer service. Almost as important, there was no drama or insults from Clearview. I look forward to working with them.

We had neighbors, who were out on a walk and saw the BCS sign on our jobsite, tell us about their good experience with BCS.
